Everyone Is Making Me Feel Guilty About Starting Suboxone

Today was my second full day of being on suboxone. I am completely ready for change and dedicate to getting clean after 7 years of drug abuse. The last few years I have been using a lot of oxycodone everyday. I didn't think I could live without it. The reason I decided to make the call to the clinic was my fiancé. He had known about my problem for a while but it got to the point were he felt that he would never be able to trust me and it was causing a lot of financial and emotional problems. So I called for him. Now the problem is that he had just started using, infrequently, and now that I'm on the road to recovery it's like he is mad at me for feeling good. I feel like me being happy and not being sick is really pissing him off. He's totally stopped being supportive and it's like he's trying to make me feel bad. Or trying to guilt me into giving him my medication, which I will not do because I am 100% devoted to the program. On top of that, mybest friend, who I always used with, had been ignoring me. I feel really alone and aggravated and just don't know what to do in this situation. Originally my fiancé basically forced me to call, and now that I have it's like he's punishing me. I need some advise and someone to talk to. Anyone have any ideas?

Your recovery is the most important thing. This is a disease- a possibly fatal, life long, disease. It should be treated as such. Your friends & fiancé will come around. Give them some time. In the mean time just keep doing what you're doing- putting your recovery first and foremost.

Thank you. It really helps just knowing that someone listened and understands. Right now getting better is the most important thing. That means putting myself first for once. Day three complete. I really hope I can do this.

To be honest, it shouldn't be the first time you put yourself first and I certainly hope it isn't the last/only time you do so. You can't be there for anyone else, if you don't take care of yourself first.

As to your fiancee, maybe he just doesn't understand everything that's going on. With you feeling better, he may think you're abusing again, because he was liking expecting some withdrawal problems and the other issues that people suffer when they use a Methadone treatment.
