Depends on the definition of "hoarding". If I tell the Doctor I want to take the Full Strength of Estratest, but only take a half a pill (HS)...then I actually get a 60 day supply with the script refilled every month. In a year, that would last me six extra months. Do the math.

Colete, you are on both the money AND the math. Well done! Were I to simply say that I'm impressed with your acumen it'd be a gross understatement! May your pharmacist always have a plentiful supply of whatever you need, and at low co$t into the bargain. Being of the opposite gender Down Under here in OZ I don't need estratest but that doesn't mean I'm oblivious to its necessitous demand.

Given that it's long been touted as being the best medicine of all I reckon there's scant hope I'll ever wean myself off of laughter!

I don't know the entirety[or much at all really] of the FDA's rules but one rule that I think all major drug companies should have to adhere to is that when they introduce a new drug to the market then they should be compelled to ensure that the new drug's supply -- to its domestic demand at least -- remain stable and not decrease to anything even approaching a paucity whereby folk reliant on these "novel nostrums" are left hanging out to dry. It is just too easy for companies and governments to invent stories to explain away their ineptitude.

Also Colete, if you and several of your friends[not that you ever would, of course!] -- who didn't actually need[or even just want, for there is a clear distinction] the estratest for yourselves -- were to earnestly undertake a spate of pill-shopping for another friend who did want to hoard some, then she'd soon have enough to tide her over till the cows came ho_me'taphorically!

I do hope Mike never gets taken in by any sharp sneaky snake-oil salesmen who may choose to pass his way sometime when they've nothing better to do than to prey on the totally unsuspecting. I reckon some of 'em are so low that they could teach Chubby Checker to do the limbo under a snake's belly whilst he was wearing a ten gallon hat and twelve inch platforms! Did I neglect to mention back there a spell that Chubbs was meant to be riding a penny-farthing bike backwards as well... just to help flesh-out the narrative a tad? We live in hope! :o)

Geeze! I thought I was being helpful by informing those who were also in NEED of Estratest HS what I have found out. The way this thread has moved, I'm not sure I will speak(post) here if I DO receive my medication. What I've posted so far has been what I have learned and thought others (also in need of this medication) might want to know. As I said, I was trying TO BE HELPFUL - not cause any issues. Never my intention.

Sadly, this string has turned into a game of semantics and who can post the most derogatory remarks to others. It is childish, to say the least.

I am fine with not sharing whether or not I receive my medication, if this is the kind of behavior to be expected.

Again, I was trying to be helpful to those also in need of their medication, nothing less and nothing more.

Hi Dianne,

I, for one, appreciate you sharing your information with us. I hope you will let us know if you get your prescription from canadageneric. The posts here have been very helpful in letting us know this is not just a local situation and sharing information about alternatives to Estratest.

Mike,

Thank you. If there is a way to let those of you who are here, in need of this medication, know personally - OUTSIDE of this forum, I will be more than happy to let you know when I get my medication from canadageneric (now known as choicepharmacy) Thanks to Interlineal Peruse - I won't publicize it here.

Interlineal Peruse....please stop with the rude behavior, it is unbecoming and useless in this forum. The people who need this medication are here to get and help others, not attack.

As a professional moderator - (if this were MY forum,) you would have been booted immediately, as your posts are rude, attacking and useless to any here who are only seeking information on how to get their needed medication. Please find a new place to TROLL.

Most sincerely,

Dianne

THANK YOU DIANE. To Interlineal Peruser: For those of us who need this medication just to function normally, your wise crack trolling is cruel and not appreciated. It would be a shame if good people abandoned this forum simply because of your insensitivity. Basically, it's really none of your business. Please stop and go elsewhere for your flame wars. Thank you. Colete

To all that were interested,

I DID receive my medication yesterday. It took a lot of communicating with my GYN's nurse and canadageneric (now Choice Pharmacy) - but in the end it was all worth it.

Hi Dianne,
Congrats! I'm glad to hear that someone has received the medications they need. My wife has alleviated her situation by using Premarin and getting a testosterone injection monthly. It seems to be working as a replacement for Estratest. The latest news from the pharmacists Northern California is "We think we MAY receive some Estratest in mid-March"

Mike,
I am so glad your wife is getting some relief! I had to go around my elbow to get to my *** to get it and thank God I had a persistent nurse, who was willing to help me. I promised her that I would pass on the information, IF I got my medication, and I have. I hope those out there who need it will be able to have the same luck. Now, when it comes time in June to refill, we'll see if it is still an issue.

Your wife is very lucky to have a man concerned enough to help her. My husband was about to panic....but was very grateful when the pack came yesterday!

Good luck everyone. I hope the information I've provided is enough. If not, ask and I will give you the information and directions on how to go about getting it through Choice Pharmacy, out of Canada.

Alleluia!!! We got a call from our local pharmacy (Northern California) yesterday and they located a manufacturer who had Estratest equivalent. The company is called ANI Pharmaceutical and they use the medication name "estrified estrogen and methyltestosterone". This is a company located in Minnesota. Our pharmacy now has a stock of this and is filling all of their backorder prescriptions. They did say that the distributor they normally use still does not have any Estratest equivalent in stock.

Dear Interlineal Persuer, ive been following along with this thread on Easratest. I came on here to find out one if anyone knew why a drug would be quarentined? I need this medication not only for peri menapause but for a adult form of muscular Dystrophy. This may be a medication that could change my life and others . And all i read is you degrading others that have come on here also saying they cant find it this is true? I live in NJ and have called all the drug stores local Rite Aid said this month. i dont understand what your purpose is on these type of sites other than belittle people? Everyone has enough problems they sure dont need someone that thinks there better and knows everything hurrasing them .

Diane, I'm with you. Frankly, I think men should stay off this post. They have no idea what it means to have Estratest taken away from a woman who had been using it and been very happy with the outcome. Now perhaps the FDA should reconsider the use of Viagra. After all, it can cause blindness and heart attacks. There you go, gentlemen!

I just stumbled upon this thread while searching about my new prescription of Estratest 1.25/2.5. I started to freak out when I saw all the posts about it being discontinued. I believe this medication has finally been the answer for me. I had a partial hyst 7/2010 due to cervical cancer. I left my ovaries in hopes to try to avoid all the potential hormonal issues of a complete hyst. Needless to say the last 3 years have been a hormonal roller coaster for me even with my ovaries left in tact. I have been all over with HRT, BC, anti anxiety, antidepressants.... pills and more pills in hopes of finding some normality. I had even gone to compounding bio-identical hormones with testosterone for the sex drive/libido issues. Well two weeks ago I had my ovaries removed due to pre-cancerous cells returning and was horrified at the thought of trying to continue my hormone quest for normalcy now that I would no longer have my ovaries. I know it is early, but I am optimistic. I have been on the Estratest now for two weeks and I feel great. Not one single night sweat, no hot flashes, less irritable. I was having them all the time (pre-menopause and low estrogen levels) before my surgery without taking Estratest. I am also on Estrace cream, so maybe this is finally the right concoction for me? I will keep the compounded cream formula (testosterone/aminophylline/arginine-L) also known as "scream cream" in my nightstand drawer as an added bonus for later :-)

In any event, I had no problem filling my Estratest prescription at Walgreens and even called them to verify that they have no shortage for my potential future needs. They informed me that they did not think there will be a future shortage. So perhaps things have settled down and everyone can readily get what they need???

And as far as 'Interlineal Peruser' is concerned.... Shame on you..... Grow up!

And Mike. Your wife is blessed to have you, I'm not sure too many men out there would be as passionate about the support of their wife's medications. Well maybe my husband too knowing what he has endured with my emotional roller coaster :-) Amneal is the producer of mine.

Best wishes to everyone!

I hate to hear your wife is having to replace Estratest with Premarin. That's the first HRT I tried after my hysterectomy. It made me CRAZY - I heard voices. And I had the worse PMS I ever had in my life. I stopped it, started again a week later. Same results (I wanted to be sure it wasn't something else). Estratest was my life-saver - I was back to my pre-hysterectomy self. I absolutely panicked last week when the pharmacy said Estratest was no longer available. And they are so nonchalent like, we were'n out of cream filled donuts. Don't know when or if we'll get more. My pharmacy gave me Covaryx made by Centrix, as someone else in this thread suggested. The saddest thing of all is that I wasted 20 minutes at the FDA.GOV site and could find nothing on this topic - not even under the Drug Shortages List. Pathetic.

I went to a Pharmacy and spoke with a pharmacist. She suggested these alternatives for Estratest HS replacement.
1. Bio Equivalent Hormone Creams (Estradiol/Estriol + Testrostrone
2. OR Premarin Lowdose + Testosterne Cream (applied twice a week in thigh area (I believe)
3. OR Estradiol/Estriol + Testosterone Compound Capsule.
I haven't used any of it yet. But ladies, there ARE alternatives there. She said the Compounded forumula is not covered by my insurance and it would be about $40 a month. Small price for sanity.
Speak to a small independent Pharmacist, preferably a compound Pharmacist and ask for their idea on Estratest replacement HRT. Then have your Doctor prescribe it. Good luck to all of us.

I have been out for 2 months and have had a complete hysterectomy for 25 years when I was only 25. I am too young to go through the change and am in so much agony. I am in Colorado. I just heard about this through my KMart pharmacist. Why aren't our doctors doing anything about this?
