Epitec & Epilim

Updated

Hi, I am currently on EPITEC 200 for Bipolar Depression.. It is a wonderful drug and has helped me alot to get through life. I depend on EPITEC every day because it helps to keep my mood up, gives me confidence in myself. However, I've not picked up any weight for the last few years and it LOOKS like i am dying of hunger..(People worry)…I spoke to my doctor and he said that he will put me on EPILIM.. But, i need to bring my dose down first to 50mg. I am now sitting on my first day where i am down to 100mg and its honestly terrible. Does anyone know what will happen if i suddenly jump to EPILIM? Is there a risk? Also, what do you think of EPILIM?

I don't have any personal experience with either medication, but apparently loss of appetite and weight loss are both listed as general side effects of Epitec (lamotrigine); so this could explain the worrying looks you were receiving from others.

Since both medications happen to be in the same drug class of Anticonvulsants, to my understanding, there shouldn't be much of a problem making the switch over to Epilim (sodium valproate) outside of your current tapering. However because I am not a doctor, I can only base that of off my own research and not your medical history or other individual factors that might come into play.

You can learn more about this drug on the page for Valproate Details

I hope this info helps!

Hi I have been using 1600 mg epilizine for bipolar disorder.I have gained weight for the past
10 years. I also use a small dosage 100 mg epitec with the epilizine. I battle to write as I am shaking all the time. My mood swings are still there more done than up.I am also depressed about the gain weight maybe because I never had a problem. Surely in this day and age research should have come up with medicine for bipolar without this terrible side effect of weight gain. As I am reading through the letters everyone is complaining. I personally also think the dosage is too extreme for me as I am not in "control" of myself feeling unsure all the time.
