Eliquis And Weight: I Need The Truth
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Today I am speaking with my hemotologist about switching from Xarelto to Eliquis. Xarelto has caused me, a runner with a very slim diet, to gain almost 14 pounds in 4 weeks. 7 of those pounds in the last two weeks.

I need to know of any serious weight gain issues with Eliquis. Doctors always swear that the side effects listed are the only ones but I was never told by my doctor nor the literature that Xarelto causes abnormal weight gain either. Google had to tell me that after yesterday's terrible weigh-in. I'm looking for absolute candor. I am 34 and female and I'd be taking it for PE.

Thanks.

Rebecca Yes!! My urine and bowel movements smelled like tainted meat. I’m not sure how Eliquis caused such a foul odor or why my body had such a bad reaction to it. Must have something to do with the way it alters the blood. This was just one of many painful side effects l experienced. Thankfully I’m no longer taking Eliquis.

I've been on Eliquis for 4 years now & have not experienced any weight gain. I did just recently begin to experience some minor depression but so far I am able to manage it.

I agree with another post - do your own research - when you ask pharmacists make sure they look in all levels of side effects, from common to rare (they are classed that way in their PDR)
PS Thanks for the info about Xarelto - I'll be sure to steer clear of it.

I have suffered some of the worst side effects ever while using eliquis. Take the weight gain, it’s better than joint pain, dizziness, fatigue. Good luck

Got almost 40’pds off me & my
Husband beck in early 2019 with low
Carb/keto ,we both felt absolutely
Amazing. And then stick to a healthy low carb lifestyle. As well walking about 4 to 6 miles a day .

BUT , by the end of 2019 into 2020 found out I have an estranged brother through dna testing and found out quickly they battled addiction , which rattled my
Nerves . Then, the pandemic hit, and that really rattled my
Nerves . So I was a bundle of
Nerves so bad, I had an AFib issue & ended up in the ER .

After that first episode ,Instead of just adjusting my metoprolol I was already taking , they added Eliquis, and “yep” , gained back all that weight I lost and then some!

Physically , I cannot lose it. It’s got me so depressed, and stress is my
AFib culprit,

No matter what I say to my
Cardiologist, she argues it .

I even called the maker of Eliquis & told them how many people are gaining weight , they I assume are getting phone calls but due to privacy wouldn’t tell me of true or not ? , which is not good for anyone’ to gain more than 30+ pds , Let
alone someone who has high stress levels & can have AFib episodes.

I feel like a huge balloon, my stomach is swollen , my left leg swells all the time now and I’m flat out miserable.

Last phone convo with my cardio she said I had to take something because I’ve had a few AFib Moments & offered Xelatro to try , which I haven’t done because I don’t want to be on any of them at all !

There are steroidal properties in Eliquis, which can make you
Gain weight let alone increase of appetite.

I seriously suggest anyone to call the company on your Eliquis bottle and complain about the weight gain, it’s just not good for anyone to be gaining too much weight, let Alone from their product, and needs to be Added to the side effects For Eliquis!

I see my cardio in person tomorrow, sure she will give me static about not wanting to Take any of this crap .

Anyone also have odd fevers or hot moments from it btw ???

(It Could be that I’m a heffer now carrying all this extra weight) ??

Does Eliquis cause your urine to have a bad odor?

As my one doctor told me when I had breathing issues my cardiologist didn’t believe me. He said only the patient knows. It’s your body. I did well on Xaralto.

I had to start Eliquis in 2016. Not longer after I started I immediately gained 20 pounds. That was with eating the same as I always did with no change. I seem to keep putting it on and when I tell my Doctors, I feel like they think I am lying. I eat healthy, stay away from fast food and fried food, sweets etc. it does not matter, but they say this is not a side effect. Tell that to my body after I have gained 40 lbs. I have to be on it too.

I’ve been taking Eliquis 2.5 mgs twice a day for the past 3-4 months. My dr switched from Warfarin to Eliquis so I no longer need to constantly get tested. I haven’t had any weight gain. I actually lost weight. I am also taking it because of a P.E. problem & clots in my left leg. It could be a combination of medications you are taking. It’s been very convenient for me not having to get my Pro Time checked constantly. I hope this helps a little. Good Luck & if you find out what’s causing your weight gain, please let me know.

I can attest to blood thinners. Everyone is different. After many years of being on Coumadin I switched to Eliquis for a few weeks. I was unable to breathe. Dr did an angiogram to make sure I didn’t have a blockage. He kept me on Eliquis and had me go to a Pulmonogist. It was the Eliquis. My Dr said only the patient know for sure. I went on Xarelto. I didn't try to loose weight, I just did. I always thought the Coumadin (since it’s rat poison) was the real cause of my weight gain. Each person's body, age react differently.

I have also been on Xarelto and now Eliquis. It is during this pandemic and I can say for sure that I have not gained any weight this far.

I used to be on Warfarin for many years due to clots & a PE. Been on Eliquis for about 3 weeks & haven’t shown any weight gain yet. But I go by the way my clothes fit & if anything, they feel looser.

Sorry to say, after being in Coumadin for years and unable to lose weight I was put on Eliquis and within days I was unable to breathe. I went on Xarelto and found it worked well and dropped 20 lbs. Everyone is different. I still take my baby aspirin with Xarelto.

Re: Verwon (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

I was 118 lbs when my hematologist put me on Eliquis. I gained weight immediately, eating the same food I have always eaten. No fast food, fried food, bread, desserts, healthy meals. In no time I put on 30 with Eliquis I have tried everything and can not lose weight. Many people have complained to me about the same problem. You might have joint pain and fatigue also

Re: George (# 76) Expand Referenced Message

Please check with your Doctor first. I am on Eliquis and now warfarin because I have a tendency to get blood clots when I have surgerys. Why does he have you on Eliquis instead of Warfarin. I had no weight gain when I was o that and no joint pain or fatigue. But you can't wean yourself off unless your Doctor approves

I gained 22 lbs on Xarelto that I can't get rid of for over 2 yrs. My daughter gained over 40lbs. on Eliquis. I read that blood thinners reside in your liver and can't be eliminated. I have tried three liver cleanses and nothing changed. Cardiologists deny that it causes weight gain.
