Efficacy Of Expired Lisinopril

Updated

Lisinopril - How old is to old to use this medication? My pills are from 2013. Does the pill increase or decrease in potency with age?

Medications tend to decrease in efficacy with time, according to FDA reports. Although, it is interesting to note that a nurse practitioner recently told me that the U.S. is the only country that actually requires expiration dates for medications. I don't know if that is true, and overall, before using an expired medication, you should double check with your doctor, or pharmacist.

The NIH lists the typical side effects of Lisinopril as possibly including nausea, dizziness, increased urination, hypotension, and headache.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I have 10mg lisinopril and the label reads "discard after 2/23/16." Is this medication still good?

That nurse is wrong and spreading a falsehood. As an American, I have lived in the UK and Europe and every nation that I have lived in and visited where I have needed to obtain medication drugs ALL have expiration dates. Knowing the EU as having the best and most advanced laws protecting its citizens, I would agree that the EU is better than any other country regarding safeguards protection for it's citizens and peoples. This is doubly true as Brexit is proving with the fight against the Customs Union and Charter of human rights by Britain and the Brittunculi.

Please don't take the expired Lisinopril, you might have side effects that aren't good. Everyone is different but it's already 2018 and your medication is from 2013. You should never take an expired medication any more than one week past expiration. Or just consult your pharmacy.
