Est Estrog/mtest Ds Tab

I have been taking the brand drug Estratest, Not Estrates HS. My last prescription was a generic (GLENMARK) and it was the dark green, same as the brand name. I just went to my pharmacy and they provided the light green (Brenckrdg) which I am told is the higher dose 1.25mg/2.5mg.
Why would your company not be consistent with Glenmark generic, and the brand in the color of the drug and dose?
I read on your website that your light green is the doseage of 1.25mg/2.5mg. Is this correct and why would you not be consistent with the color so as not to confuse patients. Also, what is the color of your generic Estratest HS?
Thank you for your reply.

I had the same experience. I am trying to decipher what IP 78 is, as imprinted on the tablet. The bottle says the right dose, but I cannot find any pictures on the web...

for over 30 years i took the estratest non generic brand and then the company is no longer in existence thus the generic lighter green than lighter yet green. i have noticed many side effects. extremely tired where i wasn't , restless legs, etc. the ingredients or doses must be different.

I took the light green, it is the HS or half strength, .0625. The dark green is 1.25 which is full strength. I had to argue with my pharmacist because they keep giving me the dark green instead of the light green. Bring back Estratest and get rid of the generic.

To: Guadalupe M Pankratz,

I located the pill marked IP 78. It is Esterified estrogens methyltestosterone (1.25 / 2.5 mg).

The photo of the pill looks to be light green...

Click here to see a picture of the pill.

I too have been on Estratest and was given the generic as a replacement. I got hot flashes immediately after starting the first generic and requested another. The second (I'm told there are only two) is controlling the hot flashes, but now that I've been on it for a couple months I realize I'm more tired and sleeping 10 to 12 hours a day. In other words, I don't believe the testosterone componant of the drug is adequate. I am also gaining weight. The Estratest was PERFECT and I am VERY upset that it's no longer being made and that another company can't or isn't reproducing it exactly as it was made by the original company, especially since there was no restriction on doing so, and never has been. I am not interested in herbal or natural replacement, but if ANYONE knows of a legitimate pharmacutical replacement, please post it.

Carol, thank you for your posting. I used the original Estratest and it worked great. Now I am having the tired problems and the doctors couldn't figure it out. I never thought it was the drug I was changed over too. My doctor was surprised to find out the generic had Menest 125 added, which is the testosterone. He said he was never told by the industry. Thus I was taking too much testosterone. Go figure. I wish I could help you with something else, but I'm also looking.

I have been taking Estratest HS as HRT for ~10 years after a complete hysterectomy. I had been using the Solvay brand and had wonderful results. Since Solvay is no longer producing Estratest HS the pharmacy switched me to the generic brand made by Interpharm Inc. (light blue with an IP 77 stamped on it). It was terrible! I had higher than normal blood pressure and I ended up having some type of allergic reaction and was sick and fatiqued for 2 months. I researched another vendor 'Glenmark' (light green with AP 805 stamp) and finally found that Smith's food store pharmacy would order it for me. I switched to it and it is wonderful!! I recommend anyone having problems with the IP77 blue pills to try the 'GLENMARK' brand. (Light green one with the 805 stamp on it). You may have to search around for a pharmacy that will get it for you but it is so worth the extra work.

Boy, am I glad I found this website! Maybe one of you can help me. After a complete hysterectomy, I have been prescribed the generic hormone; Estrogenmtest for years. It's DARK GREEN with the 908 on one side. This was very reasonable at $13.00 a month. When my prescription was refilled, I received the LIGHT GREEN pill with IP 78 on it. This 30 day prescription cost me $58.00! The pharmacist was too busy to help me. Can anyone here help? I'm concerned that I'm now taking the wrong dosage. Needless to say, there's no way I can afford the cost. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Oh, forgot to mention...never got past the Drs. receptionist....she just kept insisting that the Dr. refilled my prescription correctly.

Fae279,

The light green pill IP 78 is Esterified estrogens methyltestosterone (1.25 / 2.5 mg).

Please take a look at my reply below to view a photo of the pill in question.

I cannot seem to locate the dark green pill marked 908 in the drug databases. My guess is that it may be discontinued?

Have you returned to the pharmacy who administered it? They should certainly be able to provide a precise answer. I think it is rude that the receptionist as well as the pharmacy would be too busy to properly address your request. It is their job to help.Theres a chance that the pill may only cost more because of a change in manufacturers and you may be able to locate a lesser expensive brand name.

I've been in a similar situation with a pill that was considerably more expensive just because of the brand and I was given an option to chose the cheaper alternative that worked just as well. I recommend asking the same from your doctor.

I had the same pill Jeanette had. I only took it three days. Yet I had so many dangerous issues. My mind was gone, I slept all the time, I felt low and depressed basically. I stopped after 3 days of using this drug. It is a week later and I still feel the oily hair and face that seemed to begin. I don't need any help if it is going to take over my brain as most pills do..

I have been given a dark green pill which has LCI on one side and 1409 on the other. I am concerned it is not the regular estratest (1.25/2.5) as it is different from my others.

I am just as confused as everyone else is in reference to the ESTRATEST HS vs. the ESTRATEST DS. My understanding as of many years ago was the HS = half strength and the DS = Double strength. My Gynocologist confirmed that a long time ago. I was doing great on the dark green DS pills until the pharmacies started substituting the light green (HS) and not saying a word about it. I have questioned lots of pharmacists about it and only one would admit I was right. Now, this last time I went for a refill, this pharmacy told me they no longer can get the dark green ones (DS) and substituted the light green ones (HS). Still they call the light green ones S and I know better.

My question is what if I take 2 light green pills a day to equal the DS I have been so happy with? The pharmacies
I have been to give me the brushoff and don't have time to research this thoroughly and seem to care less.

Any help anyone could give me would be appreciated. Thank you.

I had a hysterectomy in 2005 and the doctor prescribed Estratest(a dark green pill). I went to the pharmacy to pick up my refill and they had changed my prescription to Estrogenmtest Hstab. It is a light blueish color and has a IP 77 on the pill. I called the pharmacy and they told me that they had changed manufacturers. I am really concerned about the change and the stories that I have read. Can anyone give me some information?

Why is there so much confusion at pharmacies regarding Estrtest HS & DS and their generic forms? It s just crazy that the dark green pill (the double strength) is now made with the light green color that WAS the half-strength color! Talk about confusing!!! And the pharmacies seem clueless about it all! I want to know if the currently avaiable generics re identical in all respects to the original Estrstest DS.....HELP??!!

Hello to all of my beautiful sisters in the womam hood. I too had a complete removal, and from that day in 1965 I have been on Premarian 1.25. It has worked fine with me, it got rid of all of my mood swings, hot flashes, and it stop dries in my vaginal. I was in the Hospital having knee replacement done, and one of my nurses and I became engage in a conversation about this, and she said that she has been taking the light color pill with IP-78. I asked my personal doctor about putting me on that brand. Before she did she ran various tests on me to see if there would be a problem, and it was not, and she put me on them. I tried it for a while, but it did not do as good of a job controlling my hot flashes, and guess what I am taking now, my Premarians. Good luck ladies because when it is all done and said, we have to work with what works for us. "Love Ya"

I took EstratestHS for years, then Estratest DS. I've tried every generic and can't understand why no one can duplicate Solvay's formula. My latest (Covaryx ) came in the mail today. Any feedback?

I have been on Estratest DS for over 20 yrs. My pharmacy changed manufacturers last August and I never noticed, but had been there to complain about how awful this new medication was. I went to Publix with my new PX in June to get it priced out and was told that my PX had been decreased to HS instead of DS. Now I understand why I have so many changes this year!!!

I have been taking estratest ds for 20 years with good results. I also have had low thyroid and have been taking synthroid. Since they discontinued making estratest ds, my Dr. had the pharmacist custom make a new rx which contains 1.25 estrogen, 2 mg testosterone, some progesterone to help counteract the estrogen causing breast cancer, along wirth 10 mg of DHE, which she said would enhance the testerone benefits without the negative side effects. I was wondering if any one has used this formula. I had such great luck with the original estratest, I'm afraide to take this new RX.
