i take alot of meds and i want to know if some of my meds interact with this antibiotic

I would like to know if SMZ/TMP DS 800-160 tabs Interpharm have any contraindicated effects with Namenda, or Donepezil. My 92 yr old mother was prescribed this drug for a UTI last week. She has Alzheimer's, however, since taking this medicine, she has become very agitated, shaky, much more confused & weakened. She also takes Metoprolol, Potassium CL, Omeprazole, Lisinopril, Citalopram, & Pravastatin Sodium. I am just at a complete loss as to why these symptoms have come on so suddenly. she is also unable to sleep. Please help. I am the sole caregiver for my Mother, my husband is in Afghanistan, and I am 53 yrs old & not in the "greatest" condition either. Thank you.

Lori, have they all been prescribed by the same doctor?

The problematic ones here are actually the Lisinopril and Potassium taken with the Bactrim, because this creates the risk of developing hyperkalemia, which is high potassium levels. It can be a very dangerous condition and may explain her symptoms.

Hi & thanks for your reply. She's off of the SMZ now & the symptoms have gone away. Yes, all her meds are from the same Dr's office, however, her primary care DR left the practice & the SMZ was prescribed by the DR taking over.

Can I take smz/tmp ds 800-160 tab interpharm giving for kidney infection, with lisinopril giving for blood pressure & zolpidem 10 mg tab nor giving for sleep, together. Also, can I take a multi- vitiman with them too? The same doc. Prescribed all. I'm concerned about what I 've read about getting too much potassium. Thanks so much for your time

I have been going thru the same thing with my mom. Her doctor thought she had the
beginning stages of Alzheimers and put her on Donepezil she was within the last two
weeks was put on SMZ/TMP for a possible inner ear infection she also has been on Lisinopril for high blood pressure for several years . Within a couple of days of starting the Donepezil her muscles totally gave out where she could not walk or hold herself up. She has has very bad confusion and dizziness for years and has had alot of problems with falling down. Her doctor does not have a clue what the problem is and just keeps putting her on different medicine. I just found out he put her on years ago Northiptyline which I found out in the last few days causing dizziness, confusion and worse. I am feeling after reading your post and what I am finding out about the side affects of all this medicine is probably the problem. I have taken her off the Donepezil to only find out few days later her doctor has put her on Namenda. Objective now is to see how much of this medicine I can get her off of.
Thanks for your post and I totally feel all these drugs are very bad and you have to stay on top of what the doctors are prescribing because it seems they do not have a clue. CJ

Hello, we are 1400 miles from home for the month of May, and I have come down with what appears to be an upper respiratory infection. I have had no sore throat or fever, but severe coughing, runny nose, and lung congestion that has increased over the last 3 days. I took smztmp DS 800 160 for a uti recently and am wondering if the pills I have left over from that will help this condition to avoid a trip to urgent care? I also take 60 mg of metoprolol blood pressure medicine a day with 25mg benazepjhctz water pill.. Can you advise if it would be safe to take the smztmp?

I worked in a nursing home and that's were I learned that a UTI when if it gets bad enough can make elderly people delusional for some reason. I was actually astounded by this because I had a gentleman who was always very sweet but began acting unordinary. Found out he had a UTI and this was affecting his dementia and his behavior.

This should be helpful to all of us, especially since many people have been diagnosed with Alzheimers Disease & it is now affecting 30 & 40 years old which is disgusting in this day & age of "modern scientific technology." The Ancient Civilizations had more Knowledge & Education than the "Best" Worldwide Colleges offer Students today.

There is no cure for Alzheimers, but ALL OF US, ALL OF US CAN STOP IT IN TRACKS & NO, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SEE A DOCTOR TO CURE IT!! It is wise to have diagnostics performed to prove it would not be advancing further though, such as Brain Scans. Here Are the Facts: Every Person who has Alzheimers Disease will also have Aluminum on/in their Brain. There will also be a Parasite that entered their body through the mouth & into the Digestion System. This Parasite travels to the head area to the Brain Sac & starts eating a hole in the Sac which allows for the entrance of Aluminum to the brain. It takes years to happen this way & does not happen to everyone. Aluminum is in Deodorants, Toothpastes, etc & is absorbed into the body. You have to have the Parasite in order to get Alzheimers & most of the time it is in food. It is a Sheep Parasite that gets mostly into Beef products while at the Butchuring Plant by cross contamination between meat products. The generation that seems to be most prone to Alzheimer’s is my mother’s generation of ages 85 to 90. This generation was introduced to aluminum cookware in the late fifties. I moved from home about the time my mother bought the green cookware so I wasn’t exposed to it very much but her generation and now my generation are the ones that have Alzheimer’s. Thankfully, I don’t at 75. Many of my generation have early onset Az. I have always believed that cookware has caused it. An article I just read about aluminum has convinced me. I would never buy that green or gold cookware.
