Drixoral And Claritin D

Updated

I wrote the company that makes Drixoral several months ago and they recommended Claritin D. It doesn't work nearly as well as Drixoral.

I can't stand the sick feeling or bad allergy symptoms I have without Drixoral.

I have had success with ClaratinD 12 hour(it has pseudophedrine sulfate) and Wal mart's Equate children's cough & cold DM elixer (it has Brompheniramine maleate) I could not find any product with dexbrompheniramine maleate in it but the brompheniramine maleate seams to work. I have been taking Drixorl Cold & Allergy for over 20 years. When I could no longer get it I was so sick I could not get out of bed most days. Do you think we are addicted to Drixoral? These symptoms sound like what drug addicts go through when they can't get a fix. My husband thinks so. All I know is that I have been searching like crazy for a substitute and the combination of these two medicines is working for me. I am going to see my doctor though and find out if I am sick from my allergies or an addiction to drixoral.

If you take ANY drug for any length of time, it's possible to become dependent on it. But for those of us (myself included) who have such bad allergies (a skin test confirmed every environmental thing outside, dust, foods, etc) we have to take something on a regular basis to function in a somewhat confortable state each day. Drixoral was given to me as a prescription about 15 yrs ago and it was the only thing that stopped that nausea, ear fullness, chest congestion, sinus pressure and pain. As I wait for Drixoral to return, I'm trying all different otc meds just to function each day with my allergies. It's tough, I'm exhausted by the constant fight to feel better.

No, you are not addicted to Drixoral! I used Drixoral for 25 years after a doctor at Mass General prescribed it for me. It was once a prescription only but quickly became available OTC. I have not found anything that even comes close to the effectiveness of this combo drug. It was marketed by Schering-Plough. I really wish it was still available. I now use hydroxyzine 25 mg and OTC sudafed. I buy one box and have to show my license! It's really a ridiculous situation.rjxdx
