How can I find out the side effcts of this antibiotic and the sun, because I'm getting a little worried. ## When I rec'd my bottle, it had a sticker on it that says avoid exposure to excessive sunlight. I believe it makes you more sensitive. I did go to the tanning bed on day two of the meds, but it had been several hours since I took my dose and I just stayed half as long as usual. I have been taking 100mg tablets twice daily for 2 days. I have been up with the most horrible chest pains both nights. It hurts to eat, drink, or even swallow. What is this? Is this normal for this medication? ## I am experiencing terrible heart burn. Could this be caused from this drug Doxycycline? I never have this problem. What do I need to do? ## Please e-mail me back concerning this, Thank You, Doris ## The heartburn is caused by not drinking a full 8oz of water with each pill. I didn't do that and though I was dieing the burning and chest pain was so bad. Now I see they say take with full glass of water. ## Regardless of anyone else's experience using the drug, you should always speak to your doctor about such problems, to rule out other causes, which could potentially be...

Can I take Doxycycline 100 mg tablets if I have a sulfa allergy? ## Hi Carol, according to an article I read from the Mayo Clinic, Doxycycline is not listed as a sulfa drug, so you should be okay to take it as prescribed. I also cross referenced the Wikipedia page on Sulfonamides, and it too did not list Doxycycline. If you have other allergies or sensitivities, I'd just double check the inactive ingredients as well to ensure that there is nothing else in there that could disagree with you. If you can refer to the National Drug Code (NDC) printed on your prescription label it should be pretty easy to find the list of inactive ingredients. I hope this helps and feel free to write back!

I am taking doxycycline, tacrolimus, omeprazole, and a nasal spray presently. Could one or the combination cause a positive urine for cocaine? ## FAISAL- When you test positive for coke there's really no other drug out there (either prescribed or over the counter) that would give you a false positive for coke.., Honestly the only way to test positive for coke is if it's in your system. Yeah there are drugs that are over the counter and etc that will make you have a false positive for stuff like Benzos, methamphetamines, barbiturates, opiates and narcotics, but as far as cocaine if you test positive for cocaine it's because it is cocaine. There is nothing out there that will give you a false positive for cocaine when they test for cocaine. It's a specific test that tests ...

I have found all of the elements in this topical cream (dicl bacl gaba lido doxe) EXCEPT for "DOXE". Can someone explain the abbreviation of this component and any side-effects? ## Hi twotrees, There are a couple medications that come to mind when I see the abbreviation "Doxe": [1] Doxycycline - An antibiotic, topically used to treat moderate to severe inflammatory acne, or mild inflammatory acne. [2] Doxepin - When applied topically, it can reduce itching caused by atopic dermatitis, lichen simplex chronicus, and other skin diseases. I'm personally leaning towards "Doxepin" due to how close the abbreviation is to the actual drug name and it's topical use-case. If it is Doxepin, you can view a list of possible side effects in the link below: ncbi.nlm.nih....

8 weeks after my chest port was removed and seemed to healing well, a small fissure opened up on one end and reddened with a tiny pustule. I opened it, drained it, and disinfected. I have doxy that was mixed on 5/14/2014 by my vet. Its only a little over 30 days old and I use it for the kittens that come from our local animal control. Most have some type of infection. I just rescued 6 who need the doxy, is it still good? ## Hello, Terrie! How are the little fur faces? This is an antibiotic, so it doesn't become dangerous after the expiration, but it does start to lose effectiveness and the problem with that is the risk of antibiotic resistance. I'd suggest double checking with your veterinarian, I'd think it should be safe, but since I'm not entirely familiar with the use of medications in animals, I'm reluctant to say definitively. Is there anything else I can help with? ## While I have not yet discovered the answer to your question, the previ...

I have been given doxycycline against Lyme disease, but I suspect I have a jaw abscess/head infection as the jaw is very painful my headaches are localised as well as inflamed nerves and my head feels as if it has pus at the base. Will doxycycline work for abscess and head infections or do I need to get different treatment? ## It is a broad spectrum antibiotic, so it can help with various types of infections. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. However, if you have an abcess, it is very important to consult a doctor to discover what has caused it. If you don't, then the underlying cause could remain, and may cause the infection to return. Has there been any change? ## I am a 37 year old fair skinned woman. I started taking doxycycline 50 mg in January, for some minor rosacea. I also had blood work done which revealed I had an underactive thyroid. So I began taking thyroxine 75 mcg along with iodine. All was going well until March 8th. I've been taking antibiotics for a UTI for the past week and a half, my doctor said take this antibiotic for a week and you'll be done. It's been a week and a half, and I just realised that the bottle had said take two a day, but I've only been taking one a day. I know this was stupid of me to not read the bottle, but I just want to know if this will compromise my recovery or something. Should I just keep taking them this way until they're gone or should I start taking two a day? ## What antibiotic was prescribed? I'm sorry, but I can't answer your question, without knowing this additional information. Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you! No money right now for a dentist and I have a new bottle of doxycyline hyclate in 20 mg form (using for acne) pill says lci on one side and 1336 on the other, small round white. I have a tooth abscess and want to know if I can increase the dosage safely to 100 mg per day to fight the infection? ## @Jason, Based on my research, Doxycycline can be used for a tooth abscess. The usual adult dose for a severe bacterial infection is listed at 100mg orally every 12 hours for 7 to 10 days; (but the 100mg may also be taken once daily as a "maintenance" dose for less severe infections). My only question to you would be do you have enough pills to run a full course of treatment, in order to fully eradicate the infection? The last thing you'd want is drug resistant bacteria, so I do hop...

I need to know what a round yellow pill is with M on one side and 023 on the other? ## Is there any chance that the 023 is actually D23? I located a round yellow pill with a capital M on one side and D23 on the other. However the letter D is illustrated in such a way that it could easily be mistaken for a 0. This particular pill is reportedly identified as Doxycycline monohydrate (100mg); an antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. For verification, the manufacturer is listed as Mylan Pharmaceuticals. Hope this helps!
