I need help from the ER with maybe some lortab cough syrup due to being extremely sick with bronchitis but I'm afraid they'll drug test me and see I'm on methadone. I know honesty is the best policy, but I'm in agony and really need something more from ER so can u tell me if the methadone will show up? And if so will it show up as morphine? I have tried being honest with ER about methadone before & they are very rude with no help!

Doctor's do not usually prescribe methadone for chronic pain anymore, so it is understandable the ER would be suspicious & especially if you are asking for a specific cough syrup. They assume you want it to get high as would any healthcare professional

Methodone is used regularly for severe chronic pain. I am on it but take it only how it is prescribed. It is good for those who need it. From what my doctor says, unless it is specifically tested for, it won't show up

They have to do a specific test for done.but why wouldn't you want opiates when you're on a synthetic opiate and methadone has a opiate walk in it you defeating the purpose of methadone maintenance program how would you stick to what you're doing

Because of how strong Methadone is and can accumulate in your body, yes you should tell him.

unfortunately you will come across some ER staff that like to judge people for taking methadone before they find out why they are prescribed it. in order to test for methadone a separate screening is needed. it doesn't show up in the standard drug screen. the only drugs that will show up as morphine on a drug screen are morphine and codeine. honesty is still the best policy. if you lie about your mess it will come back to haunt you eventually. good luck...

If one is maintained on methadone for either pain or as an opiate/opiod assisted treatment therapeutic doses of hydrocodone containing cough suppressants would be ineffective due to the presence of methadone occupying the pain receptors.Thats why so many are hesitent to use additional opiates when already on methadone. Its sound medical judgement. When it is used careful consideration should be excersized to reduce the risk of dose related respitory distress. So please be safe ...

That reply is not the first case scenario. My pain clinic is typically going to prescribe. Methadone for chronic back pain however you signed a contract at some point that tells you that you are not allowed to use any opiods or narcotics without their permission. Period I had 12 teeth pulled and was not allowed anything except my regular scheduled meds for my health problems.

Re: beauty (# 1)

Methadone prescriptions for pain have nearly tripled within the last 10 years. The boogeyman drug is Oxycontin. Now that has costs rising and it's the whipping boy of all medications despite its' effectiveness. Look at this study in Europe:

Whether they Test or not. The Lortab will not work while your on Methadone. methadone is an Opiate Blocker. If you are taking more than 20 Mg per day . the Only thing the Lortab Will do is make you spend more money on nothing.
