Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 270)

Updated

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

I've had back surgery years ago, am also fighting restless leg syndrome and fibromyalgia. A few years ago my primary, like yours, decided he didn't want to deal with chronic pain patients. To make a long story short I broke down and started to see a De. at a pain clinic. I now get what I need for meds, granted they watch you like a hawk but that's fine by me because I only take the recommended dose. they're very good and really try to keep the pain at a tolerable level. I'm guessing there must be a pain Clinic near you. Give them a shot, they really helped me. Good Luck!

Thank you for your post I am so glad that you finally found relief. I too am on Medicaid and there most of the past 10 years I’ve been paying out-of-pocket. Not exactly what I need when I am in unemployed bookkeeper who has trouble staying with her job because of my severe migraines and associated pain in my body. I would be grateful If you would share the name of the doctor you found or doctors that take Medicaid and are a pain clinic I would be one old appreciated woman! Mankiw and God bless.

You can go to Colorado clinic with medicade takes about a month to get going. You will need a referral from doc. They count meds all meds must be in bottles orginal etc. Out of pocket pay is a no for medicade clients. I called 76 pain places told it's fraud to pay if your on medicade.

Re: MaC686 (# 38) Expand Referenced Message

Hello I found this post in need of a doctor. Ive seen obe for years and even take my two kids to her. I am diagnosed with scoliosis and I take tramadol which is a really mild pain realiver and became controlled a couple years ago. Ive been on it way before that happened. My husband and i just got on medicaid and she cannot expect us with medicaid she claimed no medicaid patients so if she does see us she can loose her practice now im in need of a new doctor quick. Ive been trying to find one but I have the same issues they all look down on me because im 23. Id rather take the meds i took for years that i know work everyday instead of living in pain. Before I took tramadol ive tried muscle relaxers, nerve blockers but of course tramadol is best for me and isnt to strong for me either. Ive seen two now and they see me as an experiment to them and want to give me other medications when I already know what works best for me. Have you found a doc who understands you and doesnt judge on your age? Can you help me?

CO Susie (# 5371) --

Susie... I’ve been on a total of 200 mcg pain patches and I haven’t found anything else that comes close. One of my main pain issues among many are chronic and severe migraines. Lately I’ve noticed that the patches ward off the pain but I still get the typical symptoms that go along with a migraine like nauseousness, vomiting, photosensitivity, extremely hurt by loud noises, etc. The other nice thing is you never have to worry about you going through with a job if you mistakenly short change yourself on your immediate release for breakthrough. What I also like is the fact that there is no change in my behavior. My family has no idea whether I’m on day one or day three of my patches and I appreciate the fact that my persona is the real me and I can concentrate and focus on like I have been able to do for the past 10 years. I am a bookkeeper by trade and I am anxious for a job. If any of you know someone looking for a bookkeeper could you please pass my information along. Again Suzie thank you for thinking of me... I really don’t know why I only get one message a month now. I’ve been on this forum for about five years and I can’t tell you how much it has helped me and how joyful it makes me that we will be able to help someone else. So for those of you in chronic pain who need support and for the recommendations at Cetera this is the place to come to. Just a reminder, there is absolutely no selling or trading of medication, you should never have to pay for information. All I ask is to drive judgementalness out the door. It’s impossible for any of us to know what another is thinking and feeling and until we walk in those shoes that will always be the case. I am on this site so I can help people avoid the mistakes I’ve made and hopefully I can help them navigate the system quickly. It is definitely not my first rodeo as I have been on chronic pain meds for 10 years. My calories are off the charts and now they want to lower my meds even more? I figure if that happens I will end up homeless. Godspeed and God bless.

Hi! I have been active on this forum on and off for a few years. I am in the process of trying to find a doctor or pain clinic that accepts Medicaid. I have been making phone calls and researching for weeks and am at a complete loss. Living life, if you don't mind, what Colorado clinic were you referring to that takes Medicaid? I would be so very greatful if you had any information to share!

Has anyone using Lincoln for pain management had any issues obtaining their records from his office for any reason? I am on disability, and have been for 4 years, and knew I was coming up for review, which wasn't a huge concern. SSDI requested my records from the office on 5 different occasions with no response over a 10 month period. I asked the doc at my monthly appointments for a status update and was told the office manager was working on them and they would be sent. I got the same answer for 4 months until the doc told me the records were sent. I received another letter from SSDI a month later saying no records yet. I asked at my appointment and was told they would look into it and resend everything. I called my SSDI case worker to follow up and still no records. I called the office and have a left a voice mail twice a week for 4 weeks asking for an update and information about me records with absolutely ZERO answer. I got a letter stating my benefits are denied because they never got my records and have no proof my disability continues. I called the office that day and left a voice mail asking what went wrong and that I needed copies of my records ASAP to file an appeal. I left 3 days of voice mails with zero answer. Today I sat on hold for 32 minutes waiting to speak with the office manager only to be transferred to her voice mail. I then called back and stated I would be at the office in 30 minutes to pick up copies of the records they "sent" to the disability office and I wanted copies of the records to submit. I arrived at the office, waited in the waiting room for 45 minutes, was brought in a room to wait to speak with the doc. He then apologized and asked to have until 10am Monday to pick up the records. Monday is my last day to file my appeal and have my benefits and Medicare continue during the appeal, which I wouldn't even have to do if he had sent in the records like I was told had been done. It also happens to be my 20th wedding anniversary on Monday which I now get to spend driving 45 minutes each way to get these records followed by going to the walk in Social security hours to wait 2+ hours in line to turn it all in so it gets date stamped. This will probably send my pain through the roof and send me to bed for the rest of the day on MY anniversary!!! I am unbelieveably angry, frustrated, and confused. Why is this such an issue and why is it so hard to get a copy of the office notes? Has anyone else had any experience getting their records from the office for any purpose? Did you encounter issues? Any of you seeing him and relying on those records for a possible upcoming disability review- please get a copy of your records now and see what's going on. I have been a patient there for nearly 2 years, and see him every month. I am really concerned about their record keeping practices. I can't afford to see many other doctors after I pay for the expense of my monthly pain visit and my medications which makes his records essential to my case! This whole experience has really rattled me desperately and made me reconsider my whole medical treatment and providers. I still think he is a good doc, but why is this and has this been so hard for something so basic? I would love any insight, feedback, or other experiences. I sincerely hope my experience is an oddity and no one else gets stuck in this.

Hello! I've gone through pages and pages, looking for a pain doc. So, I do want to thank you all for giving so much info. I honestly have been feeling so lost. I will get into more detail, I just first would like to make sure this thread is still active and I'm not talking to myself. ??

My records were ready on Monday and I took them directly to the disability office, waited for over 2 hours, and submitted the records with my appeal. Now I have to wait and hope the records are sufficient. I am very disappointed as the records are time stamped minutes apart, in order, which indicates the records were each created at the same time. The records are inaccurate at best also. There is documentation of reflexes checked and normal at every visit- he has never checked my reflexes and they haven't been close to normal in almost 20 years. My straight leg test is documented in every visit as negative when it has been positive for as long as I can remember, plus Lincoln has never checked my straight leg test. Sensation is documented as being normal but has never been examined by him, and again isn't normal. The following exams are documented as normal every month yet he has never checked them and they are far from normal: sensation, motor strength, deep tendon reflexes, babinski's sign, lack of clonus, and a few others. The statement "patient reports increased activity and decreased pain performing ADLs." Is on every single note, even ones stating pain is increasing, etc. I am going to speak with him at my upcoming appointment to see if he will correct these, but I am frustrated as a patient. Proper records weren't being kept on me despite ongoing treatment and increasing medication dosages. That is frightening as a patient.

Omg that's not good! I'd be very worried as well. I too am on disability and my previous pain dr. (Cpr. Was supposedly fired because I owe $80) wrote in some notes that he checked my legs arm etc, and didn't. Despite my fear, I made an appointment to see dr. Lincoln. It's so difficult to five a pain doc these days, especially one that will prescribe fentanyl. They act as though we are walking in there with no proof of our debilitating pain (and when possible medication history). After being fired I was, beyond lucky enough to have my pcp continue prescribe my medication, while searching for a new pmd. It was extremely difficult after fired because my insurance required a referral and my pcp is within this lil network of docs that they only refer to. Talk about no options! I had 3 pmd to choose from 1 they did not rx narcotics, the 2 no med management, and the 3rd no new patients. Tg it was right at open enrolment for Medicare so i changed to Humana where no ref was req and my pcp was still in network. The downside, much higher copay. So, anyhow I then found dr. Krutsch at Colorado pain care. For lack of a better term, I always felt like a herded cow. Lol for instance you never see the doc unless it's for procedures (which are in the office) which at first it seemed like a money saving plus since procedures are done in their clinic, just in the opposite side; and the ladies told me that the only part I'd be responsible for is my usual office visit copay. Which was def not the case, being as I receive a bill for a lil over $300. Anyway, day of procedure you do not see the doc for any longer than the exact amount of time, plus 2 min them the produre lasts. He does not go over and speak to you before the procedure and everyone else gets everything ready, he does not walk in until you're all set up.... then out he goes! Don't take this info in thinking he has a bad bedside manner, because it's quite the opposite. Just too bad he's more of a sales person (procedure wise) then a doctor.

The days of the appts, same thing you do not see the dr.s, only the pa. What's worse is they're not even on the same page! The pa Ryan said he'd rx up my migraine meds, do botox and offered a couple other possibilities. Then the next appt seen the pa Rachel, she then proceeds to tell me she's taking, we don't prescribe fentanyl you'll have to get off that. This is the only thing that has semi-helped me, and my pain is still at damn (minimum) a 7-8 daily! Completely off my patches within 5 days (wtf) they're doing nothing for my migraines and cluster headaches, and I'll only have half or less of my bt meds. SHE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE MY PW I TOOK IN FROM MY PREV PMD NOR MY MRIS!! idk wth they did with them! Next, to give you a bit of an idea of what I mean. When you take your u/a you don't give it to the nurse, you take your cup and put it on a counter *with about 10-15 other cups*!! Now off to current day, I'm quite nervous because my pcp did make a huge exception by rxing me my meds for several months, however last month was my final month. I thought I was good to go since I was hoping to find a new pain doc by now. I made sure to NOT get a single script from Cpc. I apologize I know this is beyond long.

Luvinlife125 (# 5389), I've got a question. Is one of your "medications" mj? I ask because I've heard that those of us on disability cannot smoke or take mj, because of the federal regulations of it. If you do, did Dr. Lincoln notate you're on that also? I used to smoke it, (recreationally) in hs until I had the most god awful trip in the world!! What's worse is I've tried it a handful of times since then, I was 14-15 and tried it the last time when I was around 23 and had the same thing happen! I'm now 37. I voted for it to be legalized but I'm so, sooo, sooooo very afraid to try it again; even the one with no thc. I want to, because I want even the smallest amount of pain relief, but as I said I'm afraid.

Thanks for replying. I am heartbroken that I have to find a new pain doc because I think Lincoln is a good doc, but he isn't keeping records on his patients and prescribing high doses of medications. He finally got me to a level where I was finally getting function back and started physical therapy. It is just too risky to continue with him and he already caused me to get denied on disability. I am extremely disappointed in him and there is no excuse for that kind of laziness or lying. I have 2 months to taper off my meds and try to find pain management who will take me.
I do use mmj with my medications and it has made a huge difference for me. That is complicating my search for pain management. Talk to the doc first about it, but Lincoln is ok with it with meds. I suggest giving it a try in small increments and slowly increasing to find your comfort level would possibly be beneficial for you. Find a trusted friend or family member who is familiar with mmj and ask for their guidance on low and slow. Many people would be happy to help guide you to find what helps.

*takes huge long deep breathe... ok story time, I am a 32 year old female with l4 l5 impingment, sciatica, d.d.d., spinal stenosis, and fibro, along with bursitis. I am on ssdi. I have Medicare. I recently moved to the Denver area in January, and was seeing a regular f.p. physician for my p.m. I am not new to the p.m. world but try taking little meds as possible with 5mg perc and lyrics being the only 2 pain meds I take. I started a pain contract.. no biggy done it before here is where the story gets interesting I went in in March got u.a still no biggy was expecting it I did however tell the Dr. that the last time I took my meds was 7pm the night before and not that morning since I wad doing allot of driving . Also I only take 2 to 4 pills a day.. so not a high quantity. So did my u.a received my script went home. A week later I was called and told that my u.a was negative for anything including my meds.. I then was told I was being discharged from his practice. When I protested I was hung up on when I called back I was told I wasn't allowed to come in to speak with the dr. And not to call back. I re s told them I could come do a u.a writhing the next half hour and they just hung up!!! My husband watched me take my meds I always take my meds ive been doing this for almost 10 years and never had issues. The strange part is I'm not black listed at all just and waiting for all my paper work to come back but as what I have so far nothing but that I am no longer a patient there is in my record.. so something is fishy. I called a attorney and legally nothing I can do however she also said three sorry reaks and is probably do to opioid crack down and out was handled in a very very poor manner.. I'm just confused losses and scared and now I don't know where to go or who to turn to and how do I tell this to a new dr... I'm open minded to my pain treatment I will work with a at doctor hell I don't care if someone comes and put meds in my mouth lol. The only this is I can't take nsaids do to being on a high dose of ibuprofen for 6 years that gave me 2 bleeding ulcers and the beginnings of fatty liver. But I need my medicine just to function normally, i wanted to eventually have my surgerys an possibly be able to work again butt I live in a hell that is pain.. some days I don't even want to live and now I have no clue where to turn. I could really use some help and somewhere I can turn. An like I said I didn't mind contracts, u.as, pill counts, I also use supplements. I just want to live a normal life and a dr. That can help me achieve that. Anything helps thank you!

Hi Tammy. I am in need of a pain dr. asap. I've been prescribed heavy narcotic medications. I have very bad knees and shoulder and ovarian cancer. My current dr. raised their prices so high I can't afford it anymore and I'm terrified of withdrawal. Can you please help?

In 2002, I took a tumble down a double flight of stairs and broke, compression fractures, T3- T9 vertebrates in my back... In addition, I also suffer with Hidradenitis and Type II Diabetes... Multiple Dr.'s have repeatedly told me that I would suffer with excruciating pain and violent spasms for the rest of my life... Until I relocated to Canon City, CO, my primary physician always addressed my pain issues and prescribed me the appropriate pain medications needed; Vicodin, Norco, Dilaudid... Here in Canon City, CO, to put it bluntly, I have been abused by physicians in multiple ways; including Attempted Murder, Assault, Sexual Assault, False Documentation, etc... Presenting matters to Law Enforcement and the District Attorney's Office, the allegations are QUICKLY DISMISSED with statements like "Your Dr. is only human; Dr.'s do make mistakes just like everyone else". Seeing Private Lawyers, the allegations are dismissed with excuses like "No doubt you have a case, BUT there's not enough money in your case for us to represent you..."

Recently, I was referred to a Pain Management Clinic ran by a Registered Nurse, RN... At my initial appointment, I had to do a U/A and answer a lot of questions that do NOT pertain to me like, "Do you often suffer with PMS?; When you are menstruating, do you have a heavy or light flow?; etc..." For God's sake, I am a 57 year old male, I DON'T HAVE PERIODS! Anyhow, at said appointment, I requested information about if I was a candidate for the Nevro HF-10 implant and how do I go about seeing if I am a candidate... The RN immediately snapped back, "You must be a Pain Clinic documented Opiate Addict for a minimum of 3 years and then you must be a documented psychiatric patient for an additional 1 to 2 years before you will even be considered as a candidate..." Is this true? At my second appointment, the RN questioned how long I had been using Vicodin, Norco, to my response of, since my accident, 16 years... The RN then told me, "Your body needs a break and I am putting you on something else; the RN put me on Percocet..." The Percocet does NOT help with my pain! It causes me to have excruciating headaches! It causes me to have breathing problems! Presenting the side affects to the RN's Office, one of the RN's Assistant told me, "Tough S***! You're just wanting more drugs to feel high on!" Pissing me off and being a bit loud, I told said Assistant, "I DON'T feel high! I DON'T like being high!"

This got the attention of the RN and the RN comes out saying "You need to take what I gave you until your next appointment; 30 days out. And, if you don't test positive with your U/A, this will prove to us that you are selling your pain pills." Popping off, "Huh, so I'm guilty, guilty, guilty until proven innocent; this is NOT Pain Management?! If I have a problem with my pain medications, you should be the first to know about it; so you can make adjustments, NOT tell me TOUGH S*** and accuse me of selling my medications..." The RN responds with "That's the way things are, pause, whether you like it or not! Now, I question, "Does a Registered Nurse have the Authority and Licensing to prescribe Opiate Medications? On my prescription label, it gives the RN's name and her title as being "UKN." What is "UKN?"

At your age and in regards to laws that change dosing, restrictions in many cases. I have found relief with a meditronic pain pump. You don't need refills and usually are treated with great respect. I have had 8 surgeries, used to be on fentanyl patches. Now my pain pump dose is 1 mg dilaudid a week or hydromorphone. Pain resolved after decades. This is a good way to go.
