Doctors Willing To Prescribe Heavy Pain Medication In Colorado (Page 18)

I have a serious problem. My dr. had two patients start dr. shopping and has decided it is too big of a pain in his butt to continue prescribing, even though I have gotten MRIs and Xrays to prove my problems. I have over a half a dozen herniated discs in my low back, along with degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis in my facet joints. I am currently on5 30mg oxycodone a day for breakthrough and 60mg of methadone for my long lasting meds. I REALLY need a doctor in the Denver, CO area who will not judge me because of my age, thinking I'm just some drug seeker as I TRULY need my meds to function. I am even being placed on disability until I can get my back healed because if something doesn't change I will be in big time pain for the rest of my life. If ANYONE knows of a good doctor that prescribes strong meds willingly in the Denver area please let me know. I am in desperate need of help as I am going to be SCREWED if I cannot find a good doctor. SOMEONE please help me with a doctor!!!!!

At the end of 2015 Kaiser was supposed to have their own pain management clinic however that fell through. The primary care physicians are instructed not prescribe anything above a 5 / 325 or at the most of 10 / 325 for a very short period of time.
I had Kaiser for 13 years then when I asked for referral to a pain management clinic because they no longer handled my pain I was told in writing "NO"!
Not only that but they would not fill my prescriptions from an outside doctor at any of the Kaiser pharmacies so I had to pay out of pocket for that as well.

Terry,
The CDC guidelines are merely recommendations HOWEVER most prescribers are accepting them as law for their fear of being seen as an over prescriber of CDS's in the eyes of the DEA.
Unfortunately my home state has taken it a step further as our govenor has decided to issue a decree that limits the use of opioids to no more then 5 day supply for acute pain. Continued narcotic therapy requires a re evaluation. The exceptions are for end stage diagnosis, surgical or trauma pain patients treated While hospitalized.I understand other states are following this overly restrictive trend and it's only a matter of time before it expands nationwide.I hope that sheds some light on this issue that others are facing elsewhere . Warmest regards, Kenie.

Hi out there!
I have a question to see some responses. I do take a pretty heavy amount of meds.
My primary care Dr. is pushing me out to a Pain Clinic. He hasn't yet put a FIRM DEADLINE to move me along, but making it clear, I gotta go get out probably by the end of the summer (IF EVEN THEN) I'm just wondering of it is LAW that says PMC Dr.'s can no longer can prescribe these, or if it's his choice? I"ve researched it, but coming up short. THANKS FOLKS! :)

Skip to Lou they no longer prescribe benzodiazepines or adderal like medications too.
This can't be good for our fellow neighbors, I get mine thru my pm for now, so
Still scary, I pulled myself off xanax 2 years ago I am on klonopin now, down to 2 most 3a day, sometimes I forget to take it, I hope it can slide outta my life without myself slipping outta my mind.

Skip to Lou the exact place you are telling me about have been so helpful for me before. I really did better w the services there, nurses are so nice, the docs too
so I came back in 2016, and my info and complete file are there they still have them going years back (I should request a copy in case of any problems getting my benzodiazepines) anyway they say because of the long lasting results of taking benzodiazepines causes memory loss and something else.
I was so sad, because going to a shrink 3months was good for my ptsd depression and anxiety,

Jane Doe, good for you! Because guess what Dr. Lincoln thinks in a couple years it may be law, but if I hear of it we will petition it, plus Co may be towards bottom of the DEA s list.
I am doing myself kind of a dis service in changing meds but all I did was change meds that are equal to what I was taking.

Rainbow, yes isn't that a good thing to hear and know that Dr. L says call or come in during the flare, not after u have suffered with 2 days of no meds. Well he said let's change your ER, you have been on the same kind n dose for awhile. That's when I asked him about the 120 mg equivalent coming into law. Right now the max dose (apparently not cancer pts) 300 mg. He said in the next two years this may happen. Anyway I've always stayed on Ms Contin because of the availability and insurance reasons did not want Oxycontin, it was that or the F-patch which falls off even if I staple it to my body!!! So it was that or oxy ER. I chose the pill out of the two options. What a f-ing nightmare. As of the 14th I just was now able to pick up the new ER. I'm on Humana so after 2 10 days and paying for 10 day supply.....Humana will only pay for name brand Opana ER. Solana is not oxy ER, it is oxymorphone ER. Humana would not cover even with prior auth oxy ER, no Oxycontin. I have p art D for my drugs, so it wasn't a Medicaid thing. So I hope these work, oh it has to be the Solana abuse proof formula, good ol Purdue product....a lot of ppl are upset with good ol Purdue. I know now what it took 2 weeks to uncover, and I'm fairly intelligent and I just didn't c this coming. Hope you are well Rainbow, I'm sorry I asked ? on a forum that was personal. I asked if u had to lift at ur job, because hey it gives me hope that maybe I can go back to work, that's y I was asking questions and not thinking!

BYrd in response, my pm is rx ing my benzo, first time in my life. The psychiatrist I was getting them from will no longer do my benzodiazepines with or w/o pain. I've heard the methadone program here allows benzodiazepines by rx. It's not so bad here in comparison to Fl and other places. The pharmacists here have not given me problems like in Fl. I do worry however being on xanax for 10-12 yrs, then I chose to be put on klonopin for last 2 years. I'm having problems with certain generic brands working for me right now, with all my meds!! Good luck, also my pm does allow cannabis in my system, can't say I mind that!! For me I can smoke and eat marijuana as it helps my pain meds kick in, but by itself as a pain reliever cannabis just doesn't cut it. The big Marijuana hype, man I'm actually tired of cannabis, I can put it down for a month at a time.

Seek back through pages of the thread, and you'll find the answers to your questions, please. You have to put in some time.
What discs did you have replaced? I have a C5-6 fusion, which stopped the progression of my rapidly worsening symptoms, but I am still in pain, unfortunately. You should probably not ask an MD for a narcotic. The doc will look at your history, and if he's a good MD, he'll ask you about how the different narcotics worked for you. At the very least, you let him *think* it was his decision. That at least addresses a few of your questions...

Is this Dr Lincoln in Denver and will he prescribe Norco 10 mg? Oxy is too strong for me. I had multi-cervical disk replacement last month and that's what they gave me afterwards, it made me nauseous, and I've been prescribed Norco for my chronic pain for years; started w/ Lorecet, way back in the day in FL...I am going to be new to Denver in June and need to have a smooth move/ meds DR/transition and hope nobody gives me weird looks, asking for that. Idk if that's considered a big deal out west, willing to try the med edibles at some point but don't know how to sign up to try them? once I get my other meds regulated ; need a certain mental/psych/anti depressant and the whole nine yards meds so hope i get the right Drs, I'll be living on S. Monaco and Rose Medical Center is the closest place..??

I am in Oklahoma and have not been able to go to a GP in over 10 years. I have been with the same PM Dr over 6 years now. The only issue I have now is that no PM Dr in Oklahoma will allow contract patients to be on any opiate at the same time they are on any benzo. I have been on a low dose of xanax for over 6 years. Are docs doing the same in Colorado? The VA here doesn't allow both which seems absurd.

I think we are all finding that primary care doctors are just not prescribing pain meds to anyone even if the DEA protocols are followed, it just isn't worth the hassle to them or perhaps management is saying no but none of us have had any luck with a primary care doc!
If you read through the posts, you will find several good pain management clinics. Expect to pay out of pocket about $200 a month. We don't just post their names because someone who is truly in pain will take the time to read the posts, we are super protective of our docs and don't want them flooded with seekers.

Be willing to work with the pain docs, unfortunately by going in and saying you want this or that, docs label you as a seeker. It helps if you say, I am doing pt to build up my strength, checking out surgery, etc etc.. But to just say I need this med and that's it, is going to lad to disappointment.

Looking for a Kaiser Primary Care Physician in the South Denver area who will prescribe my pain medication. My last doctor just quit Kaiser, and I have gone to see 2 doctors who basically say they don't prescribe any pain meds to anyone who doesn't have cancer.

I was on just 4 x 5mg oxycodone per day for frequent 3rd degree dislocations of my right shoulder and nerve pain down my right arm. It is my dominant hand, and I basically now try not to use it.

I worry that Kaiser is even worse about prescribing pain meds. I just saw a new doctor, had my sling on from shoulder dislocation yesterday; and I asked for percocet, he said he doesn't prescribe to anyone, then he said no to hydrocodone as well. When I asked for Tylenol with Codeine, he thought for a minute and said I think its best you just use two Tylenol every 4 hours.

Well that doesn't do anything for my pain. Anyone know a Kaiser doc in South Denver/Highlands Ranch/Parker that would see the obvious pain that I am in daily. Thanks
