Doctor Who Will Prescribe Methadone

I live in Myrtle Beach, SC. I have been on methadone for 9 years. I have had a lot of pain issues since having cancer 10 years ago. I went to a pain management clinic in Philadelphia. No problems. TRhen I moved to MB and the only resouce I've been given is a methadone clinic.. I need to find a doctor to write my methadone for me. My insurance pays for that. but a clinic which is not helping my issue and want 300.00 dollars a month and I have to go everyday. I am not the healthiest person I can't do it. Is there anyone who can help me PLEASE.. I am willing to go to North carolina if I have to.. is anyone knows of a pain management doc or other???? Thank You God bless

Listed below are a couple websites specific to locating pain management doctors in a given area. All you have to do is input your city or zip code for narrowed results:

You can give this other site a try too if you come up with different results for some reason or another:

Most of the results you will find also list a phone number for that specific doctor; I'd consider calling up a number of them to see if they prescribe the type of medication you are seeking to manage your pain.

Alternatively, you can always ask that your current primary care doctor refer you to a new pain management doctor or clinic.

I'm a 49 yof whom suffers from chronic pain and have a dependency to opioids. I also have an intrthecal pain pump that gives dilaudid at a pretty high dose. It works great but I have an a**hole of a doc, who wouldn't see me at my last visit. He sends a nurse practicioner. I didn't get to tell him that I took a oxycodone from an old rx but I did tell the nurse. So he fires me as a pt and wants rapid detox of dilaudid and cuts me off oral methadone and refers me to an addiction clinic. I have intractable pain still and no plan of action for my other pain issues. If I go somewhere else, I won't get a good referral from him. Help please! I don't know what to do.

Hi, I'm 53 years old! I go to a methadone cliñc so that I can get the pain med's that I need for my back pain. I'm looking for a pain management doctor that would be able to help me. So so so nervous I have finally got me a doctor appointment. I am currently going to a Methadone Maintance Clinic but not for addiction. I was in a severe domestic violence relationship for 11 years. I was shoved down stairs etc. my back kills me. I had no insurance so all I had available was a methadone clinic. I now have a great job with insurance so I can afford a doctor. I am just so scared he will think I am just med seeking .

Hi Kimmy! I'm not sure if you found a Good pain management doctor to perscribe you methadone yet? But if you haven't I've been seeing my pain specialist for almost 5 years in Charlotte NC and he is absolutely wonderful!!! He doesn't look down on you for your cronic pain issues and your medications you HAVE to take, I go 1 time every 2 months and he usually predates my perscription for that next month so I don't see him but every 8 weeks, plus he is so good at listening to your issues and his doctors visit is only 75.00 dollars every 8 weeks (unless you have insurance) So if you haven't found one your happy with you can email me at {edited for privacy} and I can help you with a very good pain specialist!

Hello,

I was reading your post and I am in the same situation and was wondering what pain management clinic did you go to in Philadelphia...I am currently on a methadone clinic for addiction but it is totally in the way of my life now I have four years clean but my addiction all started due to major pain in my back and didn't know any better and ended up at a maintenance program . I am currently in school and work a full time job with three kids and I just can't make it there every day to do groups and one on one's and top it off it is a struggle to go on vacations...so if you could let me know that would be awesome. .

Hi, i was reading your post and i am looking for a doctor that writes methadones. I have been taking methadone for 17yrs and it has been great i take my dosage in the mourning and forget about it till the next mourning. but about a year ago i found out i had blood cancer, and while i was going thru all of that for about a year and a haft. my doctor closes up shop. and my cancer doctor helped me for a little bit but now she had to stop. I really need a good doctor that doesn't look at me like a drug addict, and does wright and understands about methadone for chronic pain. I'm a family man that owns my own business for 27yrs that has with GOD beat back cancer. I just need a good doctor and would really really appreciate it. Hello Melody. Your response to Kimmy caught my attention. I'm in Charlotte, paying cash for my methadone, as the clinic that'll accept Medicaid won't accept me - I take Clonazepam for a seizure disorder (cannot take Dilantin) and they accept no-one on Clonipin. I've been in pain for over a year, and discovered two days ago that I have a malignant tumor on my esophagus - Been to THREE doctors and it had been misdiagnosed as candidiasis! After enough looking and Googling, I realized I needed a gastroenterologist, who discovered the tumor. Everyone's afraid to prescribe pain meds, especially when there are "extenuating circumstances" such as the person in pain being on methadone. I've even had medical professionals suggest that I'm faking my pain because "there's no way you can take methadone and still have pain." or "Just have your dose raised". It doesn't work that way. I wish it did.
I need a pain doctor who'll not judge or trip because I'm on MAT. I've lived with this pain so long that I've co me to almost accept pain as a natural part of my life. And my hypertension is now called "malignant hypertension". Pain messes with B/P badly ! I can only imagine that you must be overwhelmed with people wanting a referral to your doctor. I pray that I can somehow be fit in. Either way, thanks for your consideration.

Melody I would love to know your doc. I've got two ruptured discs and one herniated disc. Had two knee surgeries. Two hernia surgeries. I am in a great deal of pain. Currently at a methadone clinic. I live in Greenville NC and need a private Dr to prescribe methadone. The clinic is running me 350 a month plus I have crohns n severe CNS issues, which in NY they gave me methadone, xanax n my meds for crohns. Since moving here to NC they cut my dose down and tapered me off the xanax. I've lost 4 jobs due to panic attack issues and lost 26 lbs due to not being able to eat. I'm desperate. I'm on my 9th surgery for total right hip revisions. My pain is intolerable. I have no quality of life. I can't find any Dr. to write for methadone. If I were a dog I'd be put down already. I have 1 rid bit of hope left and it's fading away. I live in the Atlanta area. I'm having to go to a clinic for now and I'm still immobile from this last surgery. I'd be willing to do pill counts or whatever was asked for to get a doctor's help. I'd do anything. I need a Dr that will write for methadone 90mg which doesn't work and Roxy 30 prn po 4hr. Not touching it. Please god, no pain management will take me bc of my past. I'm just ready to die. If anyone sees this and knows a Dr. please respond. This is an urgent matter. Thank you.

What we all need is the government to get off their ass and quit devoting all their attention to drs that are prescribing opiates and try and help the people that are already addicted. The number one way is to make it legal for private drs to prescribe methadone for maintenance and make it cheaper on people that are trying to do better and quit making these clinics rich. Methadone is dirt cheap if you can get a prescription versus having to pay a clinic $15 every damn day, not to mention being made to feel like you’ve killed somebody and you're on probation.

How am I suppose to be treated by a doctor all the way in Denver, CO. to get prescribed methadone. I spent alot of years proving everything that is wrong with me, and I refuse to go to a clinic and say I'm an addict when I know I'm not.

I'm in little rock, AR. Seeking a DR. to write methadone rx. Cant afford clinics, nor their schedules. I'm on medicaid, but will pay cash if need be. Hi, my name is Elisabeth. I have been on methadone for 6 years and I'm very close into moving where I can get some help. I went to a pain specialist with xrays of my back. I take 1 oxycodone 15mg at night. I would give that up in a heartbeat cause what works is the methadone, only he wrote a prescription for 4 oxy 15 a day. Why? That was my problem to start with.
