What effects do these two drugs have on the body when taken together? ## Hello, Mike! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between these medications, but it's always best to double check to be sure. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Diclofenac as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding and stomach irritation. Dilantin may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood swings. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have taken 300 mg daily for 30 years.Blood level run 3 days ago,Dilantin too high..Dr. Has dropped me to 200 mg a day for 1 month...how will this affect me? Presently I thought my synthroid was acting up because I was loopy, dizzy, trouble w/ balance etc .Leaving town for holiday and don't want to end up in ER...help! ## Hello, Patti! How are you? Did you encounter any problems with the lowered dosage? Usually, if the dose is just lowered then any issues are mitigated and should not be serious enough to land you in the ER. It is a full abrupt stop that would normally create problematic issues. How high was your level? The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings and weight gain.

Been on Dilantin for two yrs now and seem to have the monthly pain worse & worse. Does Dilantin cause this? ## Hello, Amanda! How are you? No, the FDA doesn't list such among the side effects for this medication. Typically, they include nausea, dizziness, edema, memory impairment and cough. Are you on any other medications? When was your last pap smear?

My granddaughter was born with cleft lip, cleft pallet, is 50% deaf in both ears, wears 2 hearing aids and has a speech defect. Her mother was taking Dilantin during the pregnancy. My wife and I have been raising her and 2 other children of our daughter. Our daughter went downhill after that and became hooked on opiates. She is currently in jail for the 2nd time. My wife and I could really use some help with caring for this little girl's expenses in addition to using most of our social security. ## Hello, Phil! How is your family? I'm very sorry about all the issues that you're dealing with. Dilantin has been known to cause cleft lip and palate, as well as other craniofacial abnormalities. Most doctors try to switch a patient at risk of seizures to an alternative medication,...

I can't afford insurance under Obamacare, and I lost my Medicaid last December because the governor vetoed it's expansion. I've been taking Dilantin since 1967. When generics came out, my doctor warned me not to switch from the brand name Dilantin to the generic. I have not had a seizure since 1988 and my doctor always said if I switch to the much cheaper generic, there's a possibility it may not be as effective and the seizures could return. He told me this several times, the last time about 7 - 8 years ago. Last fall when I told him i was losing Medicaid, he suggested I switch to the generic. When I reminded him he had told me not to do that, he said that was years ago and that switching would "probably" be ok now. "Probably". I don't like that. I...

I have been on Dilantin 100mg 3/day for 30 years. My level has always been in the proper range until my recent test. My recent test shows I am at 6. Always has been within the 10-20 range. I have noticed lately that I sometimes feel like a seizure is coming on. But haven't had one. How much of an increase in dosage should I expect to have to take to get me back in range ? I am 59 and weigh 145lbs if that matters. I have no insurance and it is hard for me to afford regular visits to my Doctor. Thank you for your help. ## Hello, Thomas! How are you? Sorry about the problem that you're having. Is there any chance you can call your doctor to ask? Lab work needs to be done to check your levels and see what dosage would be required.

Had 3 UTIs this year. Urologist suggested this med be taken daily for a year. I also have epilepsy and take topomax, dilantin, and climazapan. i think it is a terrible idea. What think you? ## Hello, Stepbystep! How are you? The Sulfamethoxazole in the antibiotic can increase the effect of your Dilantin, which does create a risk of it reaching toxic levels. Why did he pick that antibiotic? It's actually not the one that's usually used for this, the one regularly used for a period of time as a daily UTI preventative is Nitrofurantoin, which isn't listed as having any interactions with your medications. ## I don't know why he chose this rx. I ran this by my neurologist (as I always do), and he wanted me to have lab work done after two weeks and then see him when results ar...

If you were taking the same dosage for a long period of time, it is completely normal for your body to eventually get used to it and for it to not be as effective for you, which may explain why levels keep dropping and why your doctor raised your dosage. And yes, these antis...

I have always used the same phamacy. For about a year the purple and white capsles contained a white pill but now they contain powder. The pharmacey said they had no clue. I can't find anywhere that has dilantin as a powder. Anyone know anything about this? Sorry, but meds and seizures have left me about brain dead. I can't spell anymore. ## I take Phenytoin Sodium capsuls, 100 mg., and I believe they have powder inside. I think the manufacturer is Amneal. They are a substitute for Dilantin; I get them at Walgreens. I just started having seizures last year right before I turned 60. I hate them. I'm afraid to walk around the block because I'm afraid I'll have one and hit my head on the cement. Good luck and God bless. ## Hi, A month ago today I started on Phenyotion 1...

Is there valproic acid, divalproex sodium or phenytoin in clonazepam or lamotrigine, Tegretol, dilantin or phenobarbital ? Thank you for answer ## There is in the Phenytoin in the DIlantin, that's the active ingredient in it. The Tegretol contains the active ingredient Carbamazepine, it's an anticonvulsant. However, the others you listed, Clonazepam, Lamotrigine and Phenobarbital are all generics, so those are the active ingredients. Do you have a problem with the other medications?

if yu took dilantin, and didnt need it, what would happen ? ## There is no good feeling on Dliantin. I have taken it for 15 plus years all I ever felt was the side effects. If that is why you would take it . My advise would be smoke some pot if you live in California its sold over the counter. If there is a medical need for it. Dilantin is not a fun medication.

My brother is working out of town and went to the hospital because he wasn't feeling well. apparently he had a seizure while in the hospital and they prescribed this medication to him. My concern is whether or not they could have given him something else or was this the best medication without a definate diagnosis of Epilepsy. ## this site is not medical professionals and without knowing his medical history and test results, no one can possibly tell you. When he returns home, I suggest he see his regular doctor. ## This is my point exactly. without having an entire medical history I don't think it was necessary to put him on such a mind altering medication as this without the definate diagnosis of Epilepsy. do you think you could refer me to a doctor that may be able to understa...
