I live in lady lake, fl and having the exact same problem. I have been taking Dextroamphetamine 10mg tabs for 1 year. I went to the pharmacy yesturday to have my prescription filled and they said it was on back order. I called around to several other pharmacies and they all said the same thing. Some haven't even been able to get the medication in 4 months. If anyone knows of a pharmacy in my area that has it please reply back. Thanks!

Wow! If there is someone in Florida that has the same problem as I do in Washington State then it must be nation wide. Maybe we'll have to go out on the street to get our prescriptions. Anyone know a good dealer?

Unfortunately, a shortage has been reported, nationwide, for Dextroamphetamine tablets. They are being distributed to pharmacies as they become available, but the shortage is expected to last until mid-2012.

Thus, the only thing I can really advise is to contact your respective doctors and ask about using an alternative medication in the meantime.

Are there any other questions or comments?

Buffalo NY--I have been prescribed Dextroamphetamine 5 mg for about 15 years. I am unable to get the prescription filled--have called 10 pharmacies. Told it's on "back order" with no estimate of when it will be available.
I can't function without it and don't know what to do.

Ask your Doc to prescribe the 10mg for you. You can cut them in half using a pill cutter. The 10's have been available for a few months now.

My pharmacist called me at home last week to tell me know that he had just been informed that dextroamphetamine sulphate was no longer going to be manufactured, and to give me a heads-up to talk with my dr. about an alternative. Have been taking this for 15+ yrs. and have tried many other products...ugh. He says Adderall is the closest, chemically. Good luck everyone.

Who am I madder at?

Costco for raising the price of
Barr generic for Dextroamphetamine 10mg
$55
to
$350
the following month?

I wasn't aware of any shortage, as I only pick up the Rx every 2 1/2 - 3 months. Now I hear of this shortage but how (lucky me) it has been resolved. My Rx is handed to me with a huge $351.33 on the top and I thought it was just a mistake.

Nope.

So, shortage is over..yet the price has skyrocketed
6 X's what it was ..?!

Again..
With whom am I more p*ssed ?

I have a very long history taking C-II USA stimulants now for 22 years in a row. At present, for all of this year 2016, I now take Dextroamphetamine Sulfate, pure 10mg tablets instant release, mfg is Mallinckrodt. I am content with this generic
of the former Richwood, later ShireUS version of DextroStat, off the market, now for 5 or 6 years. I obtain my current USA C-II meds from the national drug pharmacy chain "Rite Aid". Due to several manufacturers that have stopped production of
stimulants, that worked for decades for me, such as GSK Dexedrine Sulfate I/R 5mg + Dexedrine Spansule 15mg, brand name, and, Adderall I/R brand names, by Richwood, then ShireUS, then Barr Labs/Teva, I also lost my source due to either
the mfg withdrawing the med, SKF, SKB, Glaxo Smith Kline, and/or my insurance company dropping Adderall both brand, and generic I/R from the formulary, I had to shop around, and IMHO the Wilshire brands of both Dextroamphetamine Salts,
generic for Adderall did not work for me at all. Also, strangely, the Teva/Barr version of in generic form for DextroStat 10mg, also did not work for me. Also, my insurance company dropped all versions of Adderall brand and generic, instant
release from my Insurance formulary in January several years ago. The cash price has risen beyond my budget in other cases for some of these discussed brands. I basically take what is still on my formulary from my insurance company, due to my income status. Dextroamphetamine Sulfate I/R is still on my Ins Formulary. For me, I stay away from any mfg who makes generic Adderall, including Mallinckrodt, both due to side effects, or due to significant price increases the past 10 years, that has me down to just taking Mallies I/R 10mg twice a day, for a co-pay of only US Six Dollars for 60 ten mg pills. In the 1990's up to around 2009, I had been lucky as my Insurance company and the past mfg of Dexedrine E-19 embossed orange heart Dexedrine brand 5mg + Dexedrine Spansule 15mg, and titrating in the original Richwood, later, ShireUS, later Barr Labs Adderall was on my insurance formulary and was most effective for my needs, but, that is impossible now with the withdrawal of some of these meds, and/or radical price increases, and, newer mfg who apparently use different binders and fillers to cause me to run away as fast as I can from such generic versions of Dextroamphetamine Sulfate instant release such as Wilshire, or Amedra generic or brand versions of the above, Zenzedi, also, Teva/Barr, pure dextroamphetamine... any versions of stimulant made by Ranbaxy, of India. I think the FDA has finally removed Ranbaxy from making Adderall. and generic versions of pure dextroamphetamine I/R. I hate, any Core mfg, or any, AeroBindo versions of the above, mostly due to side effects. Mallinckrodt was temporarily removed from my Insurance formulary for Dextroamphetamine Sulfate I/R and the price rose to $175.00 for 60 pills, but, my insurance company, received so many complaints, that, they added it back into the very strict Formulary.

If I were a rich man, I would go to a Mom and Pop's pharmacy and special order who ever has the current patent to make the brand Dexedrine Sulfate, and Brand Dexedrine Spansules, that Smith Kline French introduced in 1937 and later, the
ER version in 1952, but this mfg is totally out of the world market since 2010. My second choice was the original brand Obetrol, mfg from 1964 until 1994, when they sold the patent, to Richwood Pharma, and the marketing name was changed to
Adderall Instant Release pills, 1994 to around 2002, then, ShireUS made a equally high quality Adderall I/R, as did Barr Labs, even after Teva bought out Barr Labs in Dec of 2008. I cannot afford to pay the cash prices of these drugs, that have risen out of my reach, or been discontinued, or are still made but are not on my insurance formulary. Mallinckrodt is a controversial large pharma firm with many patients, either liking their products, and many hating their products, in the
dextroamphetamine pure vs mixed amphetamine salts, vs.even their versions of brand Percocet generic Oxy. I am satisfied so far with I hope the big disturbances in pricing, product availability and mfg changes that have disrupted the ADHD industry in the past 7 to 8 years. It was so very stable from 1994 until around 2009, I miss those days, as I miss the long ago stimulants, now long off the market, that were made in the USA in the late 1960's 1970's and 1980's, I had short term access to as a adolescent, and a young man, such a Biphetamine T 20mg, Desbutal 15mg, and Dexamyl 5mg and Dexamyl 15mg.

I've been taking 60mg of Dexedrine ER for over 40 years for Narcolepsy. I live near you in Washington State. Called my pharmacy 2 days ago to give them a heads up I would be filling the RX this week so they could order it it. Took the RX in today and an hour later I was called and told there was a "shortage" of generic Dexedrine BUT the brand name is available. Yippee...like I can afford the $2500 to fill the RX. (Insurance won't touch brand name.) After checking my diary, it was last September 2015 when the same "shortage" was reported. I went through some rough times then and it appears I will be doing it again. If it helps I've been buying them from Rite Aid. The only problem I've had was the false shortage last September...big pharma does this to increase the price and while there is a so called "health reform" there was never any legislation that I know of that there was any Pharmacy reform. I hope you find some and if so please post back how much they increase the price.
It's all a big hoax on US, the patients that need the drug to live a normal life. I'm not laughing.
