Is it better in the morning, afternoon of nithg before bed. ## Hi Sal, The dosing instructions for this medication state the following: "Dexilant (Dexlansoprazole) comes as a delayed-release (long-acting) capsule to take by mouth. It is usually taken once a day. Dexlansoprazole may be taken with or without food, but it may provide more relief from after-meal symptoms if it is taken before a meal. Take dexlansoprazole at around the same time every day." It does not indicate a specific time of day to take the medication, so that decision is going to be up to you at your own convenience. If it's something that effects you the point of not being able to function at a normal level, then it may be best to take it at night or in the evening hours when you may be in the comfort of y...

I take Dexilant for GERD (hiatus hernia and acid reflux). Is there a risk in also taking Apple Cider Vinegar while on Dexilant? ## The information available for Apple Cider Vinegar so far does not prove its effectiveness for treating medical conditions. Ref: Apple Cider Vinegar Information That said, there is also the risk of it worsening your GERD, though some people do seem to take it, without ill effect. I tried it for GERD, and gastritis, for me, it just made the pain worse, and I have since decided to stick with using any type of vinegar for cooking, and cleaning. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was given a weeks sample and then a prescription for 60mg. The Dr. made a mistake on the prescription and put down 2xdaily which i fortunately caught before leaving the store. My concern is, a few days into the sample i developed a worsened dry cough, then caught what i thought was the flu, symptoms being respiratory, fever, severe aches in either joint or muscle. Now I am wondering if these are simply some side effects, i have read online it may well be. I am looking to find an alternative with less flu like side effects, any suggestions? thanx ## How are you feeling, now? Dexilant contains the active ingredient Dexslanzoprazole, it is a proton pump inhibitor that is used to help reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach, to help treat conditions, such as GERD, ulcers, and ga...

After roughly 6 years of taking Dexilant 60mg my insurance will no longer cover it. Are there any OTC medications I can use to take its place? Keep in mind Dexilant is the only one that's worked thus far. ## I take lansoprazole 30mg each day. works great. it is covered by my drug company insurance. ## Regarding Dexilent, try Canada Drugs. Most drugs are much lower in price. Despite what Big Pharma says (they use scare tactics) it is safe. Check out the Canada Drugs website, or call them. They will explain the tightly controlled supply chain, and where they obtain their supply. Example: My husband saves $500.00 on Epi Pen. ## What other medications have you tried? There are several available over the counter, or as generics, that are much cheaper, but given your vague post, it is har...

I have been prescribe Dexilant 60 Mg 1 capsule twice daily and Sucralfate 1GM 3 times a day an hour after meals. I haven't taken them yet but it concern me what I have read on each one of them. I am 69.7 years old and many medicine have given me bad reactions. Just wondering if anyone has taken these medicine together and what side effect they had. ## I didn't find any interactions listed between the two, but you should double check this information to be certain. You can learn more Dexilant details here and you can learn more Sucralfate details here. Were they both prescribed by the same doctor and filled by the same pharmacy, so your use of them is being monitored? All medications carry the risk of side effects, that is just the nature of adding chemicals to the body. However,...

Does Dexilant keep my body from getting nutrients? Wondering if I need to supplement with something more than Magnesium. Also wondering what studies say about taking it for years? I have a hiatal hernia, so there is no relief in sight for me. ## Hello, Sharon! How are you? I've not seen any reports on that, so far, however I'll do some more searching and post back if I do find anything. As to long-term use, yes, it does increase the risk of hip fractures. It seems that long-term use of all medications that the FDA classifies as proton pump inhibitors can do that. They may also cause side effects, such as nausea, flatulence and stomach pain. How long have you been taking it? Usually, these are only used for a maximum of 16 weeks, before taking a break from them. ## I have been on...

Medicare just quit covering my Dexilant prescription and I am having acid reflux horrible again. My dr is trying to get them to approve it because nothing else I've tried ever helped noticably. What other GERD med is most similar to Dexilant? It has to be a generic form, or medicare won't cover it. ## Hello, Cherie! How are you? The reason they don't want to cover it is because it's not available as a generic, but there are several others that are, plus some are available over the counter. Two would be Lansoprazole and Omeprazole, so you may want to ask your doctor about trying them. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been denied dexilant too, and cannot get help with payment.Medicare doesn't pay for it, and neither would Florida Blue before I got Medi...

I've been on Dexilant 60mg for almost 3 years now for Barret's esophagus. My recent endoscopy showed that my Barret's has cleared up. But the doctor said to contune the Dexilant for now. I've read that long term use of PPIs can lead to bone loss and i already have osteopenia so i asked the doctor to maybe lower my dose since i contnue to have acid reflux. I've been on the 30 mg for 3 days now and i'm having a lot of acid reflux. I would like to go back to the 60 mg and asked the doctor but it was late friday afternoon and no one answered my call. My question is, can i take 2 of the 30 mg dexilant instead of 1 60 mg, since i don't have the 60 mg anymore? ## Yes, it would be the same as taking a 60mg. The rebound reflux is normal and will happen if you abruptly...

I am a 67 yr old white woman who had been taking Dexilant 60 mg for over 10 years for Hiatus Hernia and Gerd. When I was on Empliyer Insurance I maybe received $50 toward each Dexilant prescription. I am looking for an over the counter alternative for Dexilant 60mg cap. Is there one available? ## Hello, Quadcities1! How are you? It isn't available over the counter, but there are others that are, such as Lansoprazole, which is also known by the name brand Prevacid. However, please check with your doctor, before switching to make sure that it is safe for you to do so. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Drink a shot glass of Apple Cider vinegar, every morning. You may also drink it if you feel acid reflux is coming on due to the food you are eating. Stop eating fried foods. Try the 3 B' Bake, Boil and Broiled to heal your stomach. ## DO not drink a 'shot' of apple vinegar without diluting or you risk damage to your esophagus!!!!!!!! ## If I take Dexilant once p...

I have been on dexilant now for 3 months and for me it's been good. My concern is of course the long-term effect with this medication as it seems this medication is used for short-term up to 6 months from what I have read. Why is that?? My wife has been on another proton pill for like 15 years now but this one seems different. Can you actually take this one forever? What's the alternative if you're not able due to the long-term issues? This medication works for me but I'm a little nervous if I'm not able to take this one long term. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. ## Hello, Bert! How are you? Actually, all of them increase the risk of hip fractures, with long-term use, especially in the elderly, according to the NIH. This applies to all PPIs. Other side ef...

l cannot afford the price of 60mg dexilant - have samples dated 2011 . stored in dark dry place. my condition is severe esophogeal erosion with barretts syndrome. taking omneprozal but worry about kidney problems, are they safe to take? ## Hello, Elaine! How are you? Actually, both of these medications are in the same drug class and carry the same risk of causing kidney damage, or failure, according to the FDA. Typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, flatulence and stomach pain. Thus, it is likely best to stick with the one that isn't expired, unless your doctor directs otherwise. Is there anything else I can help with?

Is Omeprazole stronger than Dexilant 30mg? If I switch from Omeprazole 40mg to Dexilant 30mg will I have rebound acid? Is anyone PPI better for Ulcer healing than the other? ## Hello, Tdog! How are you? No, they all work the same, it's really just a matter of which one works for you. These dosages are actually equivalent. And no again, since they work the same way to treat the same conditions, you shouldn't have any rebound acidity. The FDA lists the typical side effects of PPIs as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, flatulence and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I Notice Dexilant is for esophagus inflammation and Prilosec does not have that action listed. Took dexilant for nearly 3 months. The first month I thought there was improvement from this sudden onset of heart burn I was experiencing. I've taken ranitidine & omeprazole for years for reflux but this heartburn was totally new. I was just recently scoped...all good. During the 2nd month, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, more heartburn & reflux, & it felt like I had swallowed razor blades. During the 3rd month I decided to stop it & go back on omeprazole & apple cider vinegar & aloe Vera juice. I feel 1,000% better. Beware, I kept thinking this is supposed to lessen my symptoms, how could it be making me so sick? ## Hello, Karen! How are you?
