I have left over far over about 12 years old. Can I still use it or is possible that it has become toxic? I need to use it to get me by sometimes but afraid to use in case the composition has changed or if it just gets weaker in strength? Thanks ## Hello, Karen! How are you? Darvocet is not safe to take, at all. It was pulled from the market several years ago by the FDA, due to the risk it created of cardiac dangers, as well as a high number of overdose deaths. Thus, regardless of how old it is, you should dispose of it and see your doctor for a safe alternative. Is there anything else I can help with?

We - Drs Ulf and Birgitta Jonasson from Sweden - have studied the painkilling substance Propoxyphene - Darvon, Darvocet - since 1994 and we it is the worst drugs ever. Found oval shaped pink caplet with 5114and v below it. Is it darvocet or vitamini ## Hello, Sandy! How are you? Yes, this is an old Darvocet tablet, which contains 100mgs of Propoxyphene and 650mgs of Acetaminophen. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. You should also be aware that this medication has been removed from the market, due to the fact it was found to carry a high risk of cardiac dangers, so the best thing to do would be to dispose of it. Is there anything else I can help with?

I periodically took Darvocet for 10 years for moderate to severe back pain due to four bulging disks prior to the FDA's removal. I only took it when I had a pain cycle appearing, which was seldom more than once a month. I had NO problems. I was able to function well without grogginess, a clear head, diminished pain, and NO signs of side effects. My physician has been trying several of the optional medications and Tramadol does NOTHING for my pain. Any other optional medications (i.e. hydrocodone) leave me incapacitated, sleeping, and woozy, which completely shuts down my days. I try to avoid taking it when the pain approaches, because I hate the side effects, which causes my pain to worsen. Since the removal of Darvocet, I must take off work excessively, feel hopeless, and my qualit...

Have the same pills. The label on the bottle said: Darvocet-N 100. No longer manufactured. ## Hello, Craig! How are you? Thank you for the helpful post! This medication contained Acetaminophen and Propoxyphene. Propoxyphene and it's related drugs were all removed from the market several years ago, due to the dangers it caused of risky cardiac events, some of which resulted in death. It was also very commonly overdosed by many people, along with the risk it carried of being habit forming. Are there any questions or comments? ## I found a pill it has the #317 on one side and the other side has Barr can you tell me what this medicine is used for nobody can find what it is .thanks

oval, light green/ dark green capsule with LANNETT 8527/1552 ## THIS IS NOT DARVOCET NOR DOES IT CONTAIN TOPROL! This capsule contains Aspirin 250mgs, Butalbital 50mgs and Caffeine 40mgs, this is a generic for Fiorinal, used to treat migraine headaches. In the US Darvocet is a combination drug of the mild narcotic Propoxyphene and Acetaminophen and that is the only coupling of it which is available, it does not come with any other ingredients. Here's a pill image to confirm: Capsule Image Click Here So there are NO narcotic subtances in this medication. ## .it seems most doctors have their minds made up about pain sufferers, that we are nothing but junkies. If doctors had to suffer in any of the many ways we do, you can be sure they would have more compassion, and less judging. ## I...

Does this med and/or the out of date version cause stomach or bladder pain? I already have IC and inflamed stomach. I've been suffering bladder pain for a week. Had blood drawn, everything is fairly normal. Its either this or imitrex, they are the only changes lately. Yes, I have migraines too, thus the imitrex. Thanks ## Hello, Cindy! How are you? You shouldn't be taking Darvocet, at all. It was removed from the market several years ago, due to the dangers it caused of cardiac injury, which resulted in several deaths. It also has a very high rate of overdose, as reported by the FDA. Thus, if you've been taking this, you should inform your doctor, so they can check for any potential problems. It is probably due to the Imitrex, though it would be best to have it checked out t...

How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in so much pain. Has your doctor made any other suggestions? There are other options you could try, such as Oxycontin, Oxycodone regular release or Dilaudid. My husband got 2 teeth broken down to gum. He was in so much pain he went diving through medicine cabinet found old darvocet from 1997 took 2 of them. I'm freaking out since I saw date on them. Will these hurt him should I take him to hospital have his stomach pumped? Help im scared! ## No, they don't turn into anything toxic, once they're expired. They just start to lose efficacy, so they don't work as well as they would have when they were new. The best thing to do is to keep a close eye on him. This medication was pulled from the market by the FDA a few years ago, because they do create a risk of cardiac dangers, though it's usually only temporary, while someone is being treated with them. So, if he starts to experience an erratic heart beat, or anything, then he...

My husband suffered a stroke 6-10-12 & another 1-12-2013, which have left him with a heart pacemaker & physically totally dependent. We did not hear of the Darvocet recall until the class action suit was closed. We returned to his physician to ask why we were not notified to stop taking the Darvocet.,he laughed & said "don't throw the pills away, they have street value". I'm sure he was kidding, but this is VERY SERIOUS to us. I'm 80 years old & his only care giver. This is killing me. How can we get the Darvocet mfg. to assist in his care?

my step daughter said that her mother gave her a hot pink oblong pill and said that her mother said it was a pain killer. but my step daughter said that it wasnt anything like her fathers that is darvocet and he gets the brand name and generic due to back injury so what else could it have been ## Sorry, without knowing the markings that were on the pill, it is impossible to say. There are many generic Darvocet's available, some are hot pink and they do not all look the same, so it is possible that is what it was, or it could have been something as innocuous as over the counter Benadryl, which also comes in a hot pink tablet. ## I would like to know the identity of a pill I have that is Hot Pink and oblong, capsule shaped but NOT a capsule that can be pulled apart to spill the conten...

I have had chronic pain for over 20 yrs. After trying every kind of pain mgmt under the sun, I had a spinal laminectomy. The dr gave me Percocet and various other pain meds and finally Darvocet. It worked like a charm. I took it as needed for 10 yrs with no problems. I found nothing else that I could tolerate, then contacted Lyme Disease. My dr tried several different pain meds (along with lyme treatments) and again nothing I could tolerate. Now it saddens me to say that I have to take morphine (MS Contin ER). I am scared to death I will never be able to stop taking it. Hope those responsible for taking Darvocet off the market are happy. ## I agree, darvocet was a good pain killer, I remember Darvons! I took one that is very old. Will I get sick ## Hello, Scoby! How are you? How old was it? Medications can lose effectiveness over time and this one also carries the risk of causing cardiac toxicity. I found this on the floor in the bedroom and have no idea where it came from, it's a very large pill, pepto bismol pink with two triangles one is upside down on top of the other at left end and then the number 4980 stamped in to it. Can you help me out, is my husband sick and not telling me? ## Hello, Carolyn! How are you? This tablet is actually no longer available in the U.S. it was a generic for a mild narcotic analgesic called Darvocet, it contains Propoxyphene and Acetaminophen. Learn more Darvocet details here. It was pulled from the market in both the U.S. and Canada, as well as several other countries, because it was found to cause cardiotoxicity, plus there was an inordinate number of overdoses.
