Daliresp Experience (Page 2)

Updated

I have been on Daliresp for one month. I have noticed significant improvement in my lungs. By that I mean the mucus is gone, wheezing is gone. My lungs seem to be getting clear and do not feel as heavy as they did before I started taking it. I have had my bouts of depression, I am never hungry, which is a problem because I am underweight as it is. Just wondering if anyone else has had success with this drug. I was hoping to get off oxygen at some point. Don't know if I can achieve that or not.

Frank, slight correction, we suggested Benadryl to help you sleep while you were on the Daliresp. Sudafed would increase your heart rate and make you hyper.

My father who has severe copd has had difficulty maintaining his weight for a few years - there are many products out there to help so ther is no need to stuff himnself as that only exaccerabates breathing difficulties. Products you may want to explore are enlive which is a 6 oz juicebox - either apple or berry flavor and contains 200 calories - easy to get 2 of them down a day. Then ther is a 1.5 oz liquid called benecalorie that contains 300 calories and mixes with mashed potatoes or tuna or chicken salad etc. So if you can take these products it is easy to boost your calorie intake by 700-1000 calories per day. My father is awaiting insurance approval for daliresp but the side efects concern me as my dad is 94.

Ela:
Thanks for the information on weight. I agree that when I try and eat alot, it makes my breathing harder and still does not increase my weight at all. I hope you father can get on Daliresp. It is very good and most of the time I don't even feel like I have COPD anymore. The side effects are not that bad really. I do not notice anything anymore. Just takes awhile to get used to the drug. Again...good luck.

Thanks, Darlene.....my dad just got authorization and will start this week, but think I will give him a half a pill for one week to see the reaction and let his body get use to it. Good luck to you....my father has been kept going all of these years by the hope of stem cell therapy...they are so close and I hope he makes it for that to happen - that is if they will treat a 94 yr old.

I had side effects for a good month. Buy some immodium and ginger ale! The problems did go away and I have had no further side effects, but a lot of people quit because of them. Your dad might even need to take 1/2 tablet every other day. Here's a good site for stem cell discussion. stemcellpioneers.com/

Hi Ela:
I am with you on the stem cell thing. I cannot understand why the FDA will not approve therapies that are proven to help people. I guess they feel the pressure from the big drug companies. My doctor talked to me for two years about Daliresp before it finally got released. And..the bad part is that our insurance will not pay for it. Give your dad a hug for me. I know he will feel much stronger after taking Daliresp. It gets rid of all the mucus. I have not been sick one day since I started taking it in May. The worst part for me initially was the anxiety and insomnia, but gone in a month
Take care,
Darlene

Is this drug safe for any age?

That is a tough question. In all of my experience with my parentsmedications, i have never seen one so wicked, with the exception of chemo. My father had to come off - he lost zest for life, was in a drk and argumentative mood, did not want to eat/drink - with these effects in a ($ yr old, had no choice but to discontinue drug. I would rather he live only 6 more months as his usual self than 2 years more in the state the drug put him in.

I do agree with the fact that the drug does things for your mental health that are not pleasant. I have not had a COPD episode in 14 months, but am depressed all the time, cannot eat and just feel pretty useless as a human being. My feelings are easily hurt and I don't feel like I am part of anything anymore.

It's a strange drug. I had side effects for a month at the beginning, but they were all physical. I actually feel like it helps my mood. I am more optimistic, not depressed at all. Let's hope something new comes along soon that may help those that are having trouble with Daliresp. I am very happy with it, but I know not everyone else is.

Hi. My mother in law was just given Daliresp today by her pulminoligist. I really hope it helps. I was wondering if it would be better to take it in the morning or evening. Please advise. Thank you , Michelle

I take it in the morning. I don't believe there is a specified time, but you could check with the manufacturer.

I take mine every morning. There will probably be side effects for about a month. It is a tough drug to get used to. But..I have been sympton free for 14 months. That is how long I have been taking it. It has been that long since I have been sick. Just hang in there - it is really good.

I have daliresp but have been scared to use it, I have anxiety sometimes and hate it. I do take xanax when it happens but since this drug can cause anxiety I have been scared to take it. Has anyone else had this problem?

Hi:
I have been on Daliresp for almost 18 months and have not been sick once since I started it. I do take a lose dose Xanax everyday because of the anxiety. Other issue is weight loss. I have lost about 10 pounds since I started taking it and am really underweight because of that. But...I would rather be anxious and underweight than in the hospital every other month like I was before I started it. I am holding out for stem call therapy. Trying to keep myself going until the FDA gets off their butts and approves that. Daliresp is the best out there right now. Don't be scared of it. Just stay busy and don't think about it.

If it doesn't work for you, simply stop taking it. I have not been sick at all in almost 2 years since I first started taking Daxas and then Daliresp. I had side effects for about a month, but toughed it out and am very happy that I did. I used to get bronchitis quite often. I am very satisfied with Daliresp.

Please let me know how this works for him, I as scared of it, started to take half but chickened out. I used to not be so scared of medicines but as I've gotten older I hate taking a new med. Thanks!

Well I took 1/2 of the Daliresp today so we will see how it goes. I'm off now to get busy and get it off my mind. Thank you all so much for information and have a really great day.

This is my 2nd try to take Daliresp. I take it in the evening after I eat. I have lost a little weight but I needed to. Other than bouts of diarreah (sp?), I am doing much better tolerating it.
