Dicl/gaba/bacl/cyc/bup/lido - What Do Each Of These Mean?

Updated

I also received a cream for a torn labrum, and back spasms as a result of the torn labrum. The insurance is making me jump through Hoops! (Now 2 yrs.) Anyhow, what do these abbreviations stand for and what does each one do? I want to make sure I'm not going to make matters worse, as the drugs they were giving me were giving me so many side effects, I couldn't take them any longer. Can someone please list each abbreviation and it's correct name? Also, a brief description of what they do and side effects? I am very sensitive to drugs, and am concerned. Thank you in advance for any clarification you can give.

I'm happy to help!

Diclofenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory.
Gabapentin, an anticonvulsant that also helps with certain types of nerve pain.
Baclofen, which is a muscle relaxant.
Cyclobenzaprine, another muscle relaxant.
Lidocaine, which is a topical anesthetic.

And, I'm sorry, but I must admit that I am not certain which medication they mean by BUP, there are several possibilities.

As to side effects, since you use this cream topically, the FDA reports them as being minimal and usually involving skin reactions, such as redness, irritation and dryness.

Can you ask your pharmacy which drug the BUP is referring to? If so and you can post back with it, I'll gladly help you learn more about it.

These are custom ordered by each doctor, so each one may contain different ingredients.

It looks like I will be taking a compound of Diclofenac, Gabapentin, Cyclobenzaprine, and Lidocaine. Does anyone know if I will be able to drive or if this will affect my activities throughout the day?

Re: Michelle (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

I guess it depends on your reaction to the medication, I have been taking this for a while (2-3 weeks) and have no reaction to the medication. I’m not really sure there is any benefit either.

Re: Michelle (# 3) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Michelle:

Yes, you can drive. My husband has been using this medicine for more than 24 hours and he has had no ill effects, and can drive fine. I'm sorry that my reply is so late. But at least it may help someone in the future.
