Darvocet Availability

Updated

Will they be removing Darvocet off the market? I think it is stupid to do so. If it is taken off, then another will become the drug of choice for overdosing, so on and so on. It is the acetaminophen that kills, a toxic dose is around 4 grams. It would take around 8 tablets of Darvocet with 650 mg of acetaminophen to reach this level.

Actually because your metabolism cannot digest darvocet as fast as other pain reliever just 6 pill can kill you and it is because of propoxypene that this happens it is a very dangerous drug that only help very few people. Most people who OD on this drug are not doing on purpose. Taking just 2 pill at 100-650mg in a short amount of time slows the heart rate and makes it harder to breath falling asleep after doing so can be fatal.

There is a bill in place from the FDA that is trying to get passed to ban it and so far it looks like it will happen. The drug is just to dangerous. Dr.'s are giving it to their young patients to help them from getting addicted to other pain meds like vicodin. once the patient takes it and realizes that it is not working that good they take more and that is when an accidental OD happens. This medication is really only effective in the elderly because they are more suspetible to the effects. Because of the trend Dr.'s have created and the risk they are putting their patients in it would be more usefull to ban it and use safer drugs. The alternative to Darvocet and Darvon is Ultram aslo called Tramadol. It works just as good for mild to moderate pain and is less dangerous so it is not like people will have no other option that harder pain meds.

Darvocet is the only pain medication that does not cause severe stomach distress or severe allergic reaction for me. Sometimes wish I could stand more powerful pain relievers,(Broken Back) but morphine can shut my lungs down. Also they are removing my asthma medication at same time. I feel like I am being selected for euthanasia!

Darvocet is the only pain medication I can take. Am highly allergic to moraphine and codeine. Anyone that is living in chronic pain can understand why I would prefer to take a couple of Darvocet a day rather than taking ibuprofen(with no pain relief)or 12 acetiminophen a day! That is a prescription for liver failure!! Give me pain relief- NOT DEATH!!

I have a brain tumor and pins in my back. two exisiting pains from the head and to the toe. On a level of 1 to 10 it's a 9. Because of my military background you see it in me. 2004 was my year of radical change where I started to take Darvecot 4x 120 pills month. There have been days of pain where I wished for amputations of the head and the torso. So I wait till the evening to take the 4, sometimes 5 and if the pain proceeds throught the evening I take more. I have been doing this for years and have a normal heart. there is not one symptom that occurs in me. I'm pissed because now I'll have to take something more addictive and more deadly. Oh well. Thank You FDA!

The person who said on this website that Darvocet is dangerous is not showing the whole picture - and its now banned by the FDA anyway. I was prescribed the medication for years by my good doctor and it enabled me to have a much better quality of life. I'm 86 and have chronic pain 24 hrs. The FDA banned it on a very flimsy, poorly performed test done by its generic company in Kentucky. I do a lot of research and have already spoken with the FDA several times about this unfair and cruel ban. They denied the petition to have it removed from the market several years ago by a so-called non-profit company in Washington, D.C. named Public Citizen. The second time this group submitted the petition, the FDA capitulated! Folks, two words tell you what is the basis for the removal of a mild and beneficial drug that's been on the market since 1957! MONEY AND POLITICS. Not my words - spoken by an ex-FDA representative. Never a truer word spoken. Once a pill goes generic, the company doesn't reap the profits. Why did it take so long for the FDA to ban this drug? Think about it. I now get the med. from India at 4 times the cost of buying it in the U.S. But after being without it for over 6 mths. I wanted my life back again.

The Darvocet was banned by the FDA after it denied the first time around a petition from a group called the Public Citizen in Washington, D.C. The same group re-submitted the petition again and the FDA capitulated, for 2 reasons - money and politics. This was told me by an ex-FDA agent! I was prescribed the drug for years by my doctor because Tramadol, Vicodin, and other such drugs either didn't work for me or the side effects were so bad I couldn't tolerate them! Now, after all these years on the market, the FDA decides to withdraw the Darvocet which was so beneficial to thousands of chronic pain sufferers. I am now buying it from India at 4 times the cost of what I paid here. The FDA gets very large sums of money for cooperating with the agenda of pharmaceutical companies that want exclusive rights to a drug (quinine is another example) or want it banned. This is a fact, not supposition. I have a file with researched and verified facts secured inside. I can only conclude the FDA is a corrupt federal agency and we citizens are the victims.

Nonsense. If you have a reaction to a medication then don't take it but Darvocet worked for millions of people. People with MS called the FDA and begged them to put it back on the market with a warning but to let them have it. They lost their jobs and their independence because they were in so much pain and couldn't take anything else. One woman lost her job, her house, her car and had to move back in with her parents because the first day without Darvocet, she was discovered crying in the bathroom so her boss sent her home and it took paramedics and neighbors 2 hours to get her out of her car. She had no side effects from Darvocet and their were hundreds of thousands of those stories that were called into the FDA. Margaret Hamburg listens to Sidney Wolfe and he is very dangerous because he believes that we should all live like him and if he doesn't need medication then neither do you. The FDA just approved Oxycontin for kids, and that is extremely dangerous. We need our Darvocet back and if we get these Democrats out of the White House then we stand a chance of getting it back. Obama appointed Margaret Hamburg head of the FDA and she is one of these i****s who thinks that she can make the world a safe place by creating more and more laws. These self righteous do-gooders need to mind their own business and let me and my Doctor decide what I need.

My brother was on Darvocet. He couldn't tolerate other pain medications. He died in 2002 from this drug. I'm glad it's banned. I wish it had been recalled sooner.

So one person died from it so we ban it from the 10 million people it helped? Very smart!

I never had ANY problems taking Darvocet... it was a wonderful pain killer. Always addressed the pain, never left me feeling high or nauseated. With all the drugs on the market with far worse side effects, the government in its infinite wisdom removes Darvocet. How ludicrous!!! There is no way this wasn't a political move of some kind. Now what are we seeing on the medical scene, 100's of thousands addicted to the current pain killers, that have lead to illicit drug addiction we have never seen the likes of ...how many deaths from this new invented & government inflicted change in policy. IF Darvocet was so terrible, why did it take 50 yrs to remove it?? Too many things just don't add up.
