Cymbalta Withdrawal Hell

Updated

I have been on 30mg of the generic brand of Cymbalta, duloxetine for just about a year. I realized 10 days ago I was going to need a refill. I failed to realize that my next refill needed the doc's approval. I have yet to receive a response, as has the pharmacy. Long story short, this is day 6 of Cymbalta withdrawal hell. I am experiencing brain zaps, anytime I move my upper body I hear a whooshing sound in my head, and my body feels electric. It's not pleasant. Finding the words I want to speak is a challenge, making the words come out without stuttering or stumbling over them even more so. Nausea and vomiting hit me today. I am so lethargic and tired but I can't sleep. Tgis is terribe that this is allowed and PUSHED onto people.

I assume you've called your doctor, right? No way should your doctor allow you to be in withdrawal like you've described. Get back on the phone and don't stop demanding that they help you! My experience with cymbalta was awful. I wouldn't touch it. Call your doc and keep calling till they help you. Good luck!

Have you considered going to a local walk-in clinic or ER? If nothing else, they should be able to help you for a few days, until you can reach, or see your doctor.

In many cases, as long as the medication isn't a controlled substance, if you Iet your pharmacy know that you are out, or almost out, they will allow you to purchase a couple days worth, while you are waiting for your doctor to correct the problem/send in a new prescription. The FDA and DEA does permit this for these types of medications. I've had it happen with my Prozac, when transferring prescriptions to a new pharmacy and they've never had a problem doing so.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I took Duloxetine for one year. I felt like i had had a Lobotomy most of the time. Very depressed and angry were my emotions. No pleasure, no sympathy or empathy for friends or family. My son gave me very tragic news and i felt no emotion.

I decided to stop taking it. It took weeks to get the brain zaps and feeling of electric shock waves to stop. I did not quit cold turkey. I weaned myself off a little at a time. Every other day for a few weeks, then every third day, etc. it seemed the best way to stop. I’m still suffering from anxiety but i prefer these feelings over no emotion at all. Best of luck to you.
