Yes, there can be fluctuations in generic medications. The FDA does allow them to differ, in the amount of the active ingredient, but as much as plus or minus 20%. They consider this an acceptable therapeutic window.

Problems, however, can arise, because they only have to measure against the name brand, not other generics, so one may have a slightly lower amount than another one. For some people, the difference isn't noticeable and they have no problems, with it.

But, when someone is sensitive to a medication, any fluctuation can cause problems and they may find that it doesn't work as well or they may experience unusual side effects.

Thank you for posting this. I had the same thing happen to me. I have always taken Adderall 20mg, regular strength, round orange/pink tablet for almost 7 yrs. Then I was given the oval tablet. Bottle said Adderall, 20 mg, Barr. I just assumed they changed the shape and it was still the brand drug. My doc always initials do not substitute. I had an awful reaction. I took this oval pill, which from your response is the generic for all of May, and got the round pill for my June prescription. I'm still experiencing bad side effects. How long does it take to get the generic out of my system? It's seriously effecting my life. Thank you for your help! =)

I have had the same experience with the oval orange and the oval blue ones they sometimes toss at me instead of the round orangey/pink ones....they DON'T WORK as well! I DO NOT know how long the effects can keep you off-kilter, but did want to point out that I saw a question about 1/2 life of Adderrall in the Questions list....maybe we can find some help there! Also I want to know...WHAT IS the FILLER they use for the oval ones? WAX? It's it's TOTALY different than the round pink ones. I sometimes crush and snort this med because it tends to make me nauseous and the oval ones are GROSS!!!

I have been taking adderall for 5 years now. I usually get the 20mg (oval orange) from CVS, but oddly they have none in stock right now. So i went to Walgreens and they gave me some pink pill same dosage but I can tell it doesnt work as good as the orange one! Its just really strange!!

I got prescribed 20 mg adderall 2 months ago. The first script I got was orange, oval, with a sweet taste, This next time I went to the same pharmacy with the same script except I was raised to 1 more a day, 30 more in the script than the last time everything else the same well that time they gave me round orange 20 mg tabs that does not have any kind of sweet taste like the oval ones has. I am just curious if there is any differencs in the 2 the round and the oval. Also curious if there is a difference in the 2 which one is prefered more, has better effects and also any idea on how hard it is to get a dr to change the adderall 20mg to semi high dose byvanse? any suggestions, advice, or comments would be appreciated, and being new to everything I could use the help/advice....
