Concerta Refill

Updated

I had a question about refilling Concerta.
I live in Washington State and have been taking Concerta for about four years. It works wonderfully. However, I know that there are no "refills". You have to get a new prescription every thirty days.

My doctor told me to contact him when I'm down to a 4-5 day supply. I do it, and he refills the prescription usually the same day. I go to the pharmacy to pick it up, usually only 25 days since my previous fill of 30.

Am I missing something? Aren't refills on Schedule II drugs supposed to be really strict? I'm glad I can get them refilled early because of my crazy work schedule and the fact I inevitably lose 1 or 2 pills each month down the sink or into the toilet. I just don't want the pharmacy to say "Your Busted! No more for you!" This has been going on for months. It seems as if the doc had a problem with early fills he would write "Do not fill until..." However, he never does.

I've looked into Washington State law and found nothing specifically on early fills or how long you have to wait. Does anyone have contrary information? Thanks.

Hello, Rick! How are you?

It really depends on the approval of your doctor and pharmacist, if they both approve of the refill date, there shouldn't be a problem, as long as your aren't getting them sooner, and sooner, or getting fills from multiple pharmacies, and etc.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, insomnia, and weight loss.

But yes, this could change, at any time, so it is always best to be cautious.

Are you on any other medications?

Thanks for the info!

Concerta has changed my life radically for the better! I don't want to take any risks on losing it.

I'm also taking venlafaxine and buproprion.
