Hello, Eileen! How are you?

You can't actually dye the tablets, so to speak, because that would get them wet and cause degradation.

The best option would be just to familiarize yourself with the markings on them, so you can recognize them that way. All prescription tablets in the U.S. are required to have unique markings to enable their identification, in case of emergency. Once you became familiar with the markings on each medication, you can tell at a glance which tablet you've picked up.

However, I realize that for some people, that isn't going to be practical, small tablets can be very hard to see….

So, my other idea that might help avoid the degradation issue would be to pick up the food grade pens they make for writing on cookies and baked goods. A tiny little dot of color from one of them shouldn't actually soak the pill and cause them to start dissolving, but I'd suggest double checking this idea with your pharmacist, first. These pens are available in most stores in the baking aisle. You could likely also use the food grade stickers that are made out of rice, unless you have an allergy.

Does anyone else have any ideas?

I'd be curious if anyone has found anything that works. I'm planning to pick up some of the pens soon, but am going to try some homemade options as well.

For me, I get a bunch of different vitamins from the same company and, for some inexplicable reason, none of the vitamins are identified on the capsule, so many of them look identical. I presort them, like many folks who take lots of meds, but some days my digestive system would prefer I avoid specific items and I can't tell which is which. It's a bit frustrating.

Thanks!
