(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been taking clonidine for two weeks and have shortness of breath. I run up the stairs and can barely breathe. Is this normal?

Yes, that's one of the side effects, also orthostatic hypotension, which means when you get up after laying down for a while you will feel dizzy, etc.. because of a drop in your blood pressure. Clonidine has other uses besides hypertension. Opiate withdrawal is one. Good luck.

Hi Captain. According to Medline Plus, difficulty breathing is listed as one of the more serious side effects of Clonidine. It is recommended that you let your doctor know so that they can determine how severe the side effects are in your case, and whether changing drugs might be a good idea.

" Some side effects can be serious. If you experience any of the following symptoms, call your doctor immediately or get emergency medical treatment:

- rash
- hives
- swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, eyes, hands, feet, ankles, or lower legs
- difficulty swallowing or breathing
- hoarseness "
