I have been taking 2 mg daily of Teva clonazepam for a few years. I have been noticing that my memory (both short and long term) is increasingly more affected by the drug. Over the past year I have found myself being on "auto pilot" alot. My pharmacy just switched my prescription to the blue accord clonazepam arbitrarily. Is there any evidence supporting the accord brand being easier on "cognitive fog"? Also, due to this fog, I would like to taper off of benzos for good. Could you recommend a safe taper schedule for clonazepam? Thank you in advance.

Re: HRBB (# 10)

There are some pharmacies that still have Teva clonazepam left over from previous orders, especially back in June 2018. I don't know of any pharmacies that can actually order Teva brand clonazepam as it has been discontinued by Teva.

I'm a lot less foggy with the accord if I was going to taper off (I'm not a medical dr) but slowly very very slowly stay on the accord for a while you will like it and it's less intense then when you've grown used to it have them drop your MG to .75 if you were at one MG then after you get used to that .50 then .25 then just stop but don't do it cold Turkey ever it is miserable 9

Doctors are the best and the worst people to taper you off benzodiazepines. They prescribe them rapidly and taper you rapidly in my experience John,
Hospital is probably best to detox. It's not just your body that's at risk from withdrawal, but your brain's wiring too. I went a few days without and had 7 seizures in that space of 3 days. Seek advice from detox centers. They'll do everything to get you to do a home detox but hospital detoxes are monitored and they usually make you feel as comfortable as possible.

I'm tapering off as we speak. My doctor is actually helping me. That's the best person but if you aren't ready to talk to your doctor here's how it has been for me.

18 YEARS on this crap, I suffer from major anxiety disorder panic disorder and I thought it would never happen.

I was on 2mg (Blue pill) 3X's per-day
Dropped to 2mg 2X's per-day for 1 month
Dropped to 0.5 (peach color) 5X's per-day
Dropped to 0.5 4X's per-day I wasn't happy my body was fine, no withdraw whatsoever but anxiety was increasing.
Dropped again to 0.5 2X's per-day and finally feeling better, learning how to use my coping skills for panic and anxiety disorder.
Next month I will keep dropping by him taking 10 pills away. Which will put me at 1 1/2mg per-day.

All has been done each month.

These pills are very dangerous to do without someone knowing. The withdrawal from the medication can cause multiple seizures. I did it alone during all 5 of my pregnancies but was told I didn't withdrawal because my hormones were changing and shifting I was very confused about that but I just dropped automatically and had no withdrawal symptoms which I do not recommend at all I was still under a doctor's supervision. Please speak to your doctor about this, they'll be very happy to see you come off of them. If not please do the steps monthly, your body will adjust as well as your brain and there'll be no withdrawal.

Hi, I can so relate to your problem. I have been on Klonopin for many years. It has affected my life in more negative ways than anything good I was getting from it for the first year.

I am currently tapering off of this messed up drug. I have to say that the withdrawal from it is worse than heroin. That being said, I am taking 2mg twice a day. I have been working on taking 1.5 mg twice a day for a week, then 1mg twice a day for another week. After I got to that point, I had to slow it down some, stayed @ 2mg a day for 2 weeks, then to 1.5 a day for a week, 1mg a day for a week, 3/4th of a mg a day for a week, 1/2 mg a day..... Until I was down to a quarter of a milligram, then slowly tapered off that dose for about 2 weeks. No withdrawal.

If you don't have low blood pressure, ask your doctor about catapress, a blood pressure med that helps with withdrawal symptoms. The thing about benzos are that they dumb us down, and believe me others noticed it way before you did. It is a terrible drug. If you have anxiety problems, I would smoke pot, but that's me, and may not be your cup of tea.

I sincerely wish you all the best and I advise you to get off any benzos or antidepressants, as I have found that most "mental health issues" are actually caused by the demonic, but try telling that to your Doc, it won't go over very well. But I testify to you that most mental health issues are resolved by a change of heart, a reconciliation with the Almighty.

I hope that this helps, I don't know if it will. Feel free to contact me if you are so moved. Good luck!!!! You can live a much better life without pills, I have never seen anyone get cured by taking psych drugs, ever.

I have been on Clonazepam for many years. I would always get the green 1mg tabs from Teva. A few months ago, my pharmacy game me the Blue 1mg pill. They did NOTHING for me. My anxiety is worse than ever. I’ve read many, many complaints about Accord. All the pharmacies I’ve called said that the other generic brands are on BACK ORDER!! Now millions of us have to take this s****y pill until we can get better ones. ACCORD is AWFUL. You might as well not be taking anything!!!

I saw my dr last week, she said that memory loss is a “side effect” of being on clonazapam. I’ve been on it for almost 18 yrs. She didn’t seem worried...I’m only on .5 mgs 2-3 times a day.

Have you tried Actavis? I was on Teva for 25 years and it worked always for me. Recently I tried Mylan brand and it did nothing for me. I just switched to Actavis and it's helping a lot. I had a bad anxiety attack before starting it and it really calmed me down. I haven't been on it long but I take a high dose and it is working pretty good.

Re: Erica (# 29)

The purpose of the medication isn't to feel high... It's for mitigating anxiety enough for you to use coping skills to manage the anxiety on your own. There's no magic pill to make it all go away. Put in some effort and manage the symptoms on your own the accord. It's an effective medication, it just doesn't get you messed up like the Teva does.

Re: Leesuh (# 13)

Forget that bro. Spuk rivotril are absolutely amazing for my anxiety and panic attacks 2mg x 30 £34. I've always had that gold pack or the pink and white box. Box colours don't really bother me because these looked counterfeit but were absolutely brilliant for controlling anxiety and stress-related disorders. I found xanax really screwed with my head and stomach. Teva is usually top notch on all its benzodiazepines mate. Hope you get it sorted my friend. Anxiety and stress are debilitating literally and it's about time doctors realize that and gauge people's anxiety with 2ml diazepam tablets and see how much someone uses to just function in an appropriate manner without mad panic attacks and then it's higher ml diazepam, clonazepam, lorazepam, depending on severity. But you really sound like your struggling. I really hope you get the effect you need to function mate. All the best.

Hi John. I go from one room to another and forget why I went there in a matter of seconds and I panic about Alzheimer's. It's a vicious, extremely vicious circle for me. And I hate having to take something to control my own body. I wouldn't worry too much about the memory loss, it's just one of the more disconcerting side effects but not permanent, although you'd have to stop taking it and if you have had it prescribed, stopping any benzodiazepine suddenly, is extremely dangerous and not a brilliant idea. But used correctly is an amazing and in my case, life-saving drug. Hope you get sorted John... All the best.

Re: BlankGrandma (# 19)

Wow, this is some very disturbing and shocking information about most Accord clonazepam having little to no clonazepam in them, period. I'm not sure if Accord would even be able to legally sell them as clonazepam. This is very interesting. Do you have any links or references you can list so we can look into this info ourselves as well? We would really appreciate it. And thanks in advance.

Re: HRBB (# 10)

No Pharmacy in the Denver metro area was able to order clonazepam from the manufacturer Teva since August of 2018. After trying the Accord brand and going through withdrawals the Whole 30 days, my pharmacist then was able to get me a manufacturer called Solco it's okay it does not work as well as the Teva brand.

Re: Openminded (# 20)

I'm currently in the tapering process and am taking 0.5 2xd. It's been quite rough, I'm not going to lie! I've been on 1mg. 2xd for over 20 years- I just felt it eas time to try and get off these pills. I almost feel as though I'm back to square one with my panic which took me to be put on my Klonopin in the first place & im not liking that one bit. I don't want my panic and anxiety to take over my life again. Any helpful feedback would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Re: John (# 9)

Hello I just wanted to say I understand the problem you are having. I am a disabled veteran with severe panic attacks and GAD and Agoraphobia. I have been on Clonazepam for 25 years or better and got switched to the Accord brand and had major problems. The Accord brand is made in China and if u read a lot of threads on medschat.com u will find similar stories from many people. Also I read where a psychiatrist was having to take this medication from China and became ill and found other meds INCLUDED with the Accord brand he was taking. He in turn will not prescribe any meds from China due to the FDA only checking very few of them .I myself have had many surgeries due to the military and became dependent on prescription meds so I entered treatment and have remained for over 21 years. During all that time I’ve never had a positive UA seven days of being on Accord brand Clonazepam I was drug tested as usual and I had a substance other than Clonazepam but similar in my urinalysis. This caused a backlash of problems however, with 2 decades of clean tests it didn’t take the doctor long to pinpoint that it was the Accord brand. Inclusion my physician instructed the pharmacy to only dispense USA medications and by no means to ever be given Accord brand again. These meds from China are cheap and to be honest there is no telling what’s in them. It’s a terrible thing when we take these medications to live a more productive life and then in turn have to worry about what could be in the medication your taking. I hope this helps and you have less problems and may God Bless you!
