Hi Riley,

Ciproxina contains the active ingredient Ciprofloxacin, which is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones.

So if you're child is allergic to Penicillin (and other antibiotics in that group), he or she shouldn't experience the same complications with Ciproxina. Although I would recommend having your child checked for other drug allergies as well, just to be on the safe side.

You can learn more about this drug on the page for Ciprofloxacin Details

I hope this helps!

Cipro and other drugs in that class of antibiotics are contraindicated in children, meaning that they should never be given to children for any reason except in the case of a life threatening illness where there is no other treatment that will work. Please read the page on Side Effects of Cipro. These drugs can affect tendons and cartilage and other connective tissue. In children, this could cause permanent injuries and even stunted growth or bone and connective tissue growth problems. Never subject a child to these drugs unless their life depends upon it.
