Hi Cheri,

The answer to your question is "yes", Ciprofloxacin can be used to treat a number of infections including: Upper and Lower respiratory tract infections (although it is not recommended as a first-line antibiotic choice for either of them).

I would actually consider discussing with your doctor and/or pharmacy whether or not they think you should be using some other antibiotic (depending on how severe the infection is). The reason being, is that if you don't use the most effective antibiotic for your infection, then the bacteria can build a resistance to what you may be using; possibly rendering the treatment useless in the end.

So yeah, I think it really depends on how severe your infection really is. If it is acute, then I would personally give the Ciprofloxacin a chance.

I hope this helps!

Hello I saw doctor yesterday who prescribed me cipro for a sinus and upper respiratory infection. He told it would work for both, how long until I know it will work? Only took two doses. He wouldn't give me ZPAK because I took it twice, thus started in xmas and I got better but got re infected from coworkers. So he gave me cipro so I wouldn't build resistance to zpack. The cough is deep but nothing comes just a dry cough anything that take cough away? He also said to take claritin D but decongestants raise my heart rate he said it's safe but I disagree.
