Cilostazol, Increasing Damaging Effects

Updated

I do not and have never had claudication in my legs or anywhere else. In March of 2002 I was prescribed Pletal (Cilostazol) to "try" for a problem which was benign. After each of 2 (100 mg) doses I took, I experienced an unusual headache with a lot of pressure over my eyes. Stopped drug on doctor's advice. Almost immediately I seemed to note a mild change in my vision. Thinking I might need a change in my eyeglass prescription, I went to my ophthalmologist who was surprised to note a central retinal vein occlusion in my left eye with well-established hemorrhages in all 4 quadrants. (I had had a baseline exam by a retinologist not long before and there had been no sign of any retinal problems. The eye injections that are being used now to reduce swelling and preserve vision were not in use then, so I had to wait and see if the blockage would clear. By August, 2002 I had significant vision loss in that eye. The blockage cleared a few months later but not in time to save my vision in that eye which is now at barely counting parts of fingers at 2-3 feet. That was only the beginning. As I began to develop more and more of the listed fallout effects of the drug, I went on the internet for the first time and I believe I've learned how it has done its damage and why I'm experiencing these worsening effects long after taking only 2 doses of the drug. I've no time or energy now for more detail, but I'll close this with a partial list: Paresthesias, neuropathy, skin reddening (due to the loss of collagen and fat, so I'm seeing myriad tiny small-vessel hemorrhages through my skin) vasculitis-like lesions that came and went, surface pain especially in my upper body, atrophy due to the nerve damage brought about by the hemorrhages, nearly 40 pound weight loss, nerve damage also affecting my digestive system. I have found no help for this condition except for a limited amount of pain medicine and medicine for the digestive problems.
