I have seen the same psychiatrist for 5 years and recently moved to Hattiesberg, MS. My family doctor referred me to a new Psych, however when I called to schedule the appt the receptionist said that the doctor does not prescribe adderall or xanax. She told me that when she asked what current meds I take. REALLY....the doctor never even met me or reviewed my medical history.

If the meds are that important to you, ask your doctor to refer someone else. Tell him you don't feel comfortable with the first referral.

You have no guarantee that a new dr will rx you the same meds you've been taking. Most drs aren't aware of what others dr rx. The reason you were told that the dr doesn't rx those meds is because you would be a new patient and they do that to cut down on drug seekers. Did they ask you what meds you were taking or did they automatically say the dr didn't rx those meds without knowing your diagnosis or current meds ?
