Okay... so for quite a few years now (at least 3-4 consecutively) I've been having extremely debilitating panic attacks. So much so that not only have they raised the stress in my life so bad as to cause ulcers, but I've been hospitalized on more then 3 seperate occasions due to a severe anxiety disorder. I've tried many things, saught counceling, a therapist... was put on Celexa, Buspar, Wellbutrin, Diazepam.. (I'll not list everything, as the doctors had me jumping around for awhile.) However, Alprazolam and Clonozepam* are the only two 'anti-anxiety' meds that seem to work for me. As they onset quickly, I need something that response just as quickly. Unfortunately, I do not currently have insurance.. (At least not until the 1rst of Feb) And I'm seeking a d...

I am taking 40mg of Celexa and was switching to Wellbutrin. I followed the doctors orders of slowly decreasing the Celexa and started on Wellbutrin 100mg. The first day I started this I experienced a lethargic mood. I didnt feel any need to move, I could have just sat there and stared at the wall all day and that would have been fine with me. The second day was the exact same. The third day I didnt take the Wellbutrin. Thats when I finally got up and called the doctor. The doctors say this is odd and it may have to do with tapering off the Celexa. But on the third day I was still on a lower dose of Celexa but felt like normal. The doctors want me to try this again and I'm wondering if anyone has heard of this happening and if the effects I felt would taper off or not? Thanks So Much...

I took citalopram 20mg two days in a row without being prescribed it. I learned that I can't just stop taking it whenever, so I wanted to stop now before my body becomes accustomed to it. Will I have any major problems with this? ## Hello, Phil! How are you? No, there shouldn't be any major problems after just two doses, but if you're concerned, please speak to your doctor. Celexa is an SSRI antidepressant and stopping them abruptly, after being on them for awhile, risks causing rebound anxiety and depression. Typical side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I just started to take Cit yesterday and I have had problems with nausea but it's a lot worse now, and I have a constant headache, and I find I am clenching my jaw without realizing it, I'm just wondering if these side effects will go away once my body is use to the meds. It's my first time on it and I'm just anxious about it. ## Hi I'm just curious if your side effects have subsided? I just started it tonight and I'm so worried. ## Hello, Red89 and Worried! How are you both doing? In theory, these side effects should go away. According to the FDA, side effects are usually transient and taper off, once your body adjusts to the medication, usually around 4 to 6 weeks. You may also experience nausea, dizziness and mood swings. The reason I said 'in theory' ...

I just started taking Celexa tonight 2.5mg to ease into it. I am extremely sensitive to medications. I took prozac last year after devastating miscarriage. I have been off it a year and now my depression and anxiety is back with a vengeance. Help! I feel like my anxiety and depression is worse and it was a super low dose? I'm worried it won't work as I tried to go back on prozac but the side effects were too much. ## Actually, if you read the information provided by the FDA and the NIH, it is very common for this to happen, when you start taking such a medication. They can actually worsen things for about 3 weeks, or so, until your body gets used to the medication. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. However, if you feel that...

Is it safe and effective to take Celexa 20 if it ha been expired for 2 years? ## Hello, Colleeb! How are you? This medication degrades over time and thus loses effectiveness. It would be best to simply dispose of what you have left and see your doctor for a new prescription. This is an SSRI antidepressant and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, weight changes and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Most all drugs are still quite effective even after 5 years. This to say maybe if the drugs were in airtight containers and a dry environment.

Hello. I'm on day 3 of Celexa 20mgs and after my first dose, I woke up the next morning feeling better than I have in almost a year! But yesterday and today I feel, well, blah.... Every night when I take Celexa, about an hour later my stomach is in knots and it goes on for about 2 hours and then I get sleepy and go to bed. I awake the next morning and feel drowsy but coffee seems to help. My concern is, my doctor told me opposite of what I've read others say in that he says this medicine will not take 2 or more weeks to "kick in", he says I'll notice effects fairly quickly!? I don't feel as obsessive and my anxiety side effects aren't as debilitating but I do feel strange and very unlike myself now. Will this get better? After reading many threads, the last t...

I was taking carvidilol and it was raised to 6.25mg last month and I was put on celxa 20mg two months ago. I have had a really bad itchy rash for over a week. I feel that it is the carvidilol because that was raised to 6.25 I went back down to 3.125mg the other day Has anyone ever experience this ## Hello, Susan! How are you? Carvedilol has been known to cause that, but if it is an allergic reaction, rather than just going back to the lower dose, you will most likely need to switch to a completely different medication, so please be sure to consult your doctor. Such allergic reactions actually have a propensity to get worse with continued use of the culprit medication. Has there been any change, since you went to the lower dose? Are these the only medications that you take? Have you chan...

My doc put me on Celexa for depression. 10 mg. I took it two days in a row last week and I swear it made me feel sick and I felt like a zombie... So I stopped. Then after talking to a couple other doctors decided I should give it another try. I am now on day three and I feel very sad and have no motivation for anything. I feel like s***. I can't feel this way...I am a single mom of three and two of my children have special needs. I think I am going to stop taking them again. Could I be getting side effects from the Celexa or is my depression getting worse? Also last night when I was driving I was having a hard time concentrating. Also I noticed a difference when having intercourse :( I don't see anything good about this med. ## Hang in there! I have been through the same things ...

Ive taken celexa for approximately two years between the weight gain and no libido I decided to wean myself off of it from 20 milligrams to 10 milligrams for one week then I stopped with horrible side effects. I have had nausea With headache hearing things like a noise in my head not sure if it is a zap like I have heard other people say but no energy and irritable does anyone know when the nausea feeling will go away I can possibly deal with everything else But feeling like I constantly want to throw up is horrible ## Hello, 317princess! How are you? You really didn't do much of a taper, which is why you're experiencing such withdrawal symptoms. The nausea might last about a week or two, before it starts to improve. How long has it been since you've taken one? What other me...

Hi, For the last three weeks I have taking citalopram 20 mg (a generic of celexa) and 15mg temazapam. The first 2 and half weeks I felt great, the last few days I have had a low mood, lost my appetite and have poor memory. I was prescribed the meds since I had an emotional meltdown. I am usually a happy, alert person and I do not like how I am feeling. Has anyone taken a combination of these meds? Do you have any symptoms like the ones I am feeling? I am open to suggestions. Thank you! ## Hi Seeker, Based on my research, there are some moderate drug interactions you should be aware of while taking these two medications together. The interaction basically states that using either drug together may increase your risk of certain side effects such as impaired thinking or judgement, dizzines...

My celexa is 2 years past effective date. Is it still effective? ## Hello, Wida! How are you? Most likely not, it would be best to just dispose of it and see your physician for a new prescription. This is an SSRI antidepressant and side effects may include nausea, dizziness, weight changes and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No, but thank you for the information. I will ask my doctor for a new script.

Can I take this while taking celexa ## Hi Jeff, From what I've read, taking either of these two medications together can increase your risk of certain adverse effects. Anything from mental impairment and difficulty staying focused, to experiencing sudden dizziness or drowsiness. I don't know how often these types of interactions occur in the percentage of people that do use them together... or at what dosage it becomes severe, but I wouldn't suggest taking any chances without speaking to your doctor first. Perhaps he can make a more informed decision after going over your medical records. I hope this advice helps!

Hi, I take 40 mgs of celexa a day, however, mistaking it for another one of my scripts ( silly me for not looking at the label) I may have taken as much as 200 mgs. Is it possible NOT to have any side effects? I've been on Celexa for at least 5 years and I still get that brain zapping on the 40 so its possible I need to go up anyway ( but of course not to 200) ## FYI - nothing happened ## Hello, Laseven! How are you doing? I'm very glad that nothing untoward happened. However, there could be some risk of some type of organ damage, though it's not very high, but in light of that, I think you should contact your doctor and let them know. They may need to do some blood work to check your liver and kidney function, just to be safe. Learn more Celexa details here. Are there any o...

I was on 40 mg of Celexa for about a year when I started getting terrible night sweats - in the winter. I attributed it to a heated mattress pad for a while but nothing seemed to help, so I started researching and found that sweating can be a side effect of the drug. The strange thing is that I didn't have a problem with it until after a year of taking it! Is this possible? I saw my doc who insisted it wasn't the Celexa because I hadn't had the symptom from the beginning, but I started cutting my pills in half anyway, so now I take 20 mg a day. It seemed to help for a while, but now my night sweats are out of control again and it is driving me crazy. Is it possible for the med to build up gradually in the body and cause symptoms much later? ## Hello, Allynchica! How are you?...

I was diagnosed with postpartum depression/anxiety last month. This is the first time I have taken antidepressants...I started on Zoloft and took it for almost 3 weeks, but had bad sexual side effects, dizziness, no appetite, and I had one beer with it and it caused me to have suicidal thoughts...I felt like a robot with no emotions...so my doctor switched me to celexa. I took it for a few days and started to feel energized and happy. After a few days, I had insomnia and my emotions came rushing back...I went to the ER because I was afraid I was going to go back into depression and they told me to stop celexa and take Zoloft again. I went and talked to my doctor the next day and I felt AMAZING...I was happy and talkative and worry free. I thought it was Celexa so I asked my doctor to st...

HI. I switched from zoloft to celexa 20mg almost four weeks ago. I feel like Im going downhill more and more everyday this past week. I truly do not think it is a matter of increasing. I am very skeptical about this particular generic. It is an egg shape and kind of a tan color. On the scored side it says 20 and the other side says 1010. I get it from Target. I do not think it is an active medication. Are their crappy generics that have zero effect? Thank you for your time. ## You probably just need the brand specifically. Some states say that if there is a generic available and the dr doesn't specify "brand only" you will get a generic. Talk to your dr because sometimes generics don't work for some people. ## It may also be caused by the switch in medications, around 4 ...
