Can You Take Benzos While You're On Suboxone?

I've been seeing a lot of posts regarding taking benzos while on Suboxone. It is ok to take a benzo w/ suboxone - as long as you're taking the prescribed dosages you'll be fine. Now if you're taking 3 or 4 8mgs of Suboxone and say 5 or 6 Xanax that's not good, that's where the reported deaths have come from. I've been on Subs for 5 yrs. I've also been subscribed klonopin and am currently taking valium w/ it and it's fine. I'm on a low dose and only take what I am prescribed. You have a lot of nerve to judge people whom you don't know. I'm 45yrs old, have a traumatic brain injury. I have grand mal seizures because of the TBI. I have been on ssdi since 2010 I tried every single seizure preventive and everyone makes me like a ZOMBIE. I take xanax only when needed and they don't give me any buzz they help me tremendously. You need to stop thinking you're Mr. know it all. It's obvious you don't know s***. I've almost died from my seizures and I have chronic pain I take suboxone for pain and still am suffering more than ever but I deal with it because I don't want a buzz I just want to live as normal of a life as I can till my body gives up....So you need to watch what you say until you've walked a minute in my shoes!

You're clearly a serious addict with serious problems. No one should take that much of anything. Clearly you are simply trying to find legal ways to feel high and your advice is going to get someone killed.

Been on 8mg suboxen strips for a year, and 30mg of valium a day, never hurt me one bit, everyone's body is different, should not be so quick to judge when you have no idea what your talking about.

If you've been on benzos 35 years, have had 2 heart attacks and atrial fibrillation, why does a psychiatrist have to be the prescriber of benzos? If I were going to od wouldn't I have done that in the last 35 years? I am 48 years old and sick of the whole rat race.

You are out your mind. I realize this post is old, but no one needs 3subs and 4/5/6 mgs of any benzo. Just because your Dr prescribes doesn't make it OK. I can tell you one certainty for sure. So many drs are ignorant when it comes to meds. This is not a statement that's up for debate. Just be careful and again, seeing this is an old thread, hope you're doing well.

You are out your mind. I realize this post is old, but no one needs 3subs and 4/5/6 mgs of any benzo. Just because your Dr prescribes doesn't make it OK. I can tell you one certainty for sure. So many drs are ignorant when it comes to meds. This is not a statement that's up for debate. Just be careful and again, seeing this is an old thread, hope you're doing well.

No Emily if you can take it going cold turkey is the best way ask your doc first to see if your body can handle the wds bbecausethe suboxone are just as addictive as the painkillers but it takes alot longer to wd from suboxone than it does from just painpills trust me I know first hand I was on painkillers for 10yrs and my Doc suggested I take the suboxone to get me off the pills the first time I quit it took me about a week for the wds to start easing up to where I could sleep then about a week and 3days till I was better not the best but alot better that was just off the painkillers when I had to have my left big toe amputated I got hooked again and started taking suboxone to help b4 I new it I was getting sick if I didn't take the suboxone after a couple years of that I tried quitting cold turkey and it took me 6month to feel any better at all cuz it would come and go one day I would feel ok then the next week I was wd all over again now I have to take the suboxone fir and as a pain management treatment for I have nurophty in my spine from diabetes and I would rather take the suboxone than the painkillers so to our question they do help take away the wds but the wds off of them are pure hell hope it helps sorry it was so long

See old post. I went cold turkey myself and takes weeks....best to get the strips or methadone. Aparently they dont prescribe that as much anymore. Also multivitamin good. And something for the mental part may help! Very good luck!

Did you withdrawal when you stop taking volume. I'm on klopins left me Advil klopins there in hotel I was told they can't find them. But they are 6 hours away can't get my refill for 8 days.So now I'm freaking been on the 6 months

I have been disabled since 2001 from a severe back injury. I have tried spinal cord stimulators and doctors have given me Fentanyl, Oxycodone, Oxycontin, Vicodin and everything known. I even ended up at a methadone clinic. It gave me seizures. I found Suboxone films by accident trying to stop methadone. I now take suboxone for pain; 3 8/2 film strip sublingual and 310 mg Valium per day. I've been taking that for 7 years and it has given me my life back and a chance for a quality of life. No cloudy headedness, no buzz. I take as directed. Now the pain clinic because of federal regulations says I have to stop the benzo. It's like taking part of my life away. I have PTSD. I just don't see how they can do that after 7 years of no problems, no abuse, use one drug store and it's not right to take away a person's right to a quality of life. And I'll be on something the rest of my life so what is the problem with addiction, big f***ing deal. I have an appointment with my neurologist to give me my Valium each month. What other non-benzo drugs are there that help with PTSD and severe anxiety?

Remember everyone is different. Also, just because a dr tells you it's safe, you still have to be cautious. I was not cautious. I would take 4 or 5mg Suboxone, wait about an hr and take 10mg Valium and heck, sometimes 20mg. I was taking the Suboxone to combat my past opioid addiction. And to be honest, I was not prescribed the Valium, I got them from someone. Only because I've tried for years to get some type of anti-anxiety drug from a dr. But they never would give me one. Anyways, while taking this combination I was fine. I grew immune to it..however, I quit the Valium because I ran out. It's been about 3 months since I've taken them together and upon reading these forums about the possible dangers, I can't bring myself to use the combo anymore. Especially not the dosage I was taking! Even though my body could handle it in the past, who's to say it may give way one day when I fall asleep? Who knows. My mind has tempted me to try 3 to 5 mg of Valium maybe 5 or 6 hours after I take the Suboxone to help me sleep and to help my back (which is royally injured). And I would prob. be ok but I am very hesitant b/c life is just to precious for me these days. IDK perhaps I've turned a new leaf.

I guess I am trying to say is, everyone is diff. If you do get the ok from your dr I would start very low and maybe even space the 2 out. Take one when you wake and the other after lunch. And go from there. Also, I've been on suboxone for 4 yrs. because of pain pill addiction and to be honest, I wish I'd never taken them b/c it's just as addictive as regular pain pills..I've tried so many time to get off them and within 48 hrs, the w/d's are so bad I feel like I need to check into a hospital. My advice is, if u take suboxone, take them for a 10-14 day period to get rid of your opioids/pain pill w/d's and get the heck away from them..Im currently lessening my Dosage each day on the Subs, I'm now down to about 2 mg a day..sometimes only 1mg. And I'm waiting a longer period in between each dosage..but in my opinion, this drug should be used very short term (unlike what most dr's will tell you to take them for months/yrs)..I hope this helps some of u. Please do not judge me, for I am not perfect. I am trying very hard to get back to a regular life where I can use natural ways to subside my pain. Thanks!

Why tf have you been on suboxone for 5 years?! Clearly you have a bigger issue than subs and xanax... get some help and dont advise people to mix drugs let alone take them at all.

Nurse Jamie, you are speaking from an " addictions Nurse" point of view,I was on heroin for 14 years,now I've been on suboxone for 4 years, I lost my son at two months old, and i have the worst anxiety. Some Drs will give a low dose of xanax for the anxiety, but every patient is different. Do not speak bad of the Dr that is trying to help us that WANT and need the help. We that have screwed up our tolerances towards medications means I can take an 8 milk of suboxone and xanax a half milagram at night or when I have an episode. And that might kill you with a lower tolerance, So unless you've been through what we have keep your thoughts to yourself. Maybe you have studied the books and statistics but you don't know the things we've been through and we know what our bodies need, NO BOOK Can tell you what I should or should not be taking. Until you've been addicted and know our suffering keep it shut!!! Thank you!!!

Do you really believe doctor no more than people that experimented with drugs for over a decade we live in the information age where all you have to do is go online and check it out most doctors are paid the prescribe medicine and their most of them are ignorant so your comment is b*******

Go to your local compounding pharmacy they make what's called a troche it melts under tongue comes in all kinds of different flavors like peppermint and watermelon they can make it to your dosage whether it 8 or 16 or 2 or 4 mg of the buprenorphine and they also add the new locks and if needed period I'm in Florida and I pay like $32 a month 4:30 8 mg troches. Call more than one some do some don't but well worth the time spent and it tastes awesome. Good luck everyone
