Based on my research, there are moderately unsafe interactions found between Buprenorphine and Butalbital. (Buprenorphine is one of the two ingredients found in Suboxone).

The drug interaction guidelines note the following:

Coadministration with drugs that are inducers of CYP450 3A4 may decrease the plasma concentrations and efficacy of Buprenorphine, which is metabolized in the liver by the isoenzyme. In addition, some of these inducers (anticonvulsants and barbiturates) may have additive central nervous system-depressant effects with Buprenorphine.

I have been on subs for 5 years and the whole time I been on it I have been taking fioricet.of course I warn you if you don't have a tolerance to the fioricet,so if you don't,take them as prescribed cause it can be dangerous.of course I'm on alot of stuff 50mg vyvanse,1mg klonopin t.i.d. ,Zoloft 50mg,suboxone 8mg a day,seroquel 75mg at bedtime if needed,of course fioricet, as needed migraine,keppra 1000mg epilepsy,and just started zocor 40 mg for cholesterol

I want to know the same thing and I asked my doc and said "wellll you could but"... with no straight answer. The drug interaction checker states no but I've read people do. I've been on sub for a week now and has a terrible migraine last night attempted to treat with exedrine which didn't work.. I just need to know if I can take the fioricwt or not without passing out anyone??

Yes I have a question, so my pain management dr put me on suboxone to help with nerve damage and occipital migraines, also in addition he put me on butabitol! My question is I've been taking butabitol for a month now, and started Suboxone about three weeks ago, and only want to take one or the other. Which one will I get the most relief from, and yes I am having side effects from taking both. Latharghy and just feeling spaced out and off balance. I am having withdrawal from the butabitol!! Thank you for your help!!

My suboxone prescriber says fiorcet and suboxone are deadly combination. I take16my of suboxone and today he almost would not give me my sub script. I cried and he cut me back to 8mg of sub a day til I piss clean for barbiturates.

No those 2 meds are deadly combo. I would not advice you to take anything other than over the counter headache medicine without your doctor OK because subs can't be mixed with any and everything .Getting sick from mixing certain things with sub is the least of your problems, it's the fact it could kill you so please be careful and don't listen to everyone on here that doesn't care will mix and take anything under the sun you feel me.

Hello - So in short i know asking this after saying what im about to say may sound silly, however im a "ill freak out if i dont know for a FACT by others that have been in my shoes" person..lol..anyway i have suffered a severe concussion and im on subutex not suboxone, and the ER doc is fully aware of that bc i happen to work in the same field, just a different location for UNC as an EKG tech.. So all my info shows anyway. That being said i was given fioricet for pain/severe non-stop migraines im having at my discharge and she said it was "totally fine" to take with subutex. She also added she wouldn't have given it to me if i were in suboxone or if either were for addiction...so although those words should make me feel safe enough to take ESP since 3 days of tylenol and ibuprofen didn't even touch the pain, i still would like an answer from someone that's actually taken the 2 and KNOW it is ok as far as safety reasons..i don't need to worry about drug panels showing barbiturates in my system. I simply need to know if you have taken subutex (not suboxone) with fioricet and can say that you didn't feel sick from it? Thank you so much in advance if you answer.

I have been on fioricet and subutex 16mgs a day for over a year & have no side effects. My doctor just told me yesterday that the two together can cause me to go into a coma, I've never heard that till yesterday & if it's that serious then I am shocked that my doctor is just now telling me this. I decided after hearing that that I won't take fioricet daily like I was doing but if I get a bad migraine I will take the fioricet & just cut my sub dose lower till my migraine is gone. I don't know how accurate my doctor is about taking the two together cause this is the first time I've heard anything like that, & I can't find any information on the internet about it.

I just read you answer to the person asking about butibitatol and suboxone. So pleased to see somebody tell it like it is. If you want to live don't mix medications!

Acetaminophen is just Tylenol. You can take Tylenol on Suboxone, I take it. Caffeine isn't a big deal either. If those are the only 2 you're fine. Acetaminophen is often a safe bet.

I would love to talk with you. I'm in shock you got some of those. They took away drugs I needed and I only got subs for pain, not addiction. You're lucky. Subs help but not enough, I suffer.

Sorry to hear about your suffering. I take subutex for pain as well. I as well, still suffer but nothing like before and at least I do not need to try to manage the pain with percs. That was a loosing battle on all fronts. Even though I still suffer and I hate that I depend on subs, I try to remember that the pain was debilitating before.

Since 2016, I've been prescribed 2 8mg tablets a day, 2 fioricet bId, and temazepam 30mg QHS. My doctor didn't care about the extra stuff, as long as he know I was trying to find my way and that I paid my bill.

In some cases yes it depends on the state your in and the doctors who care and the Dr's who don't just being honest from what I know I saw where a Dr said if your going to take Fiorcet half your suboxone for that day and don't take them everyday just when your migraine is unbearable and inhibits you from functioning as some Intense migraine can be debilitating.In other words 99% of the time the risk outweighs the Benifit all docs have agreed on that

Hell yes I agree. I've been on subs for 6 years. And I suffer from migraines and the only thing I can take is Excedrin. I tried to take butalbital a long time back cause the migraine got so bad and the next thing I knew I was in the bathroom throwing my guts up and even passed out because the s*** had my chest killing me. So no one mix the crap. Don't even take it!!!

You shouldn't be taking Fioricet every day. It will cause a rebound headache and it's very addictive. It's only supposed to be taken for a migraine that exists, NOT as a preventative. That being said, I have taken them together with absolutely no issue.

They slow your breathing, possibly to the point of death when taken together. It has happened to some people, but others use them together and are fine. You have to ask yourself if the gamble is worth it for you. That's a pretty high risk. The info I've read says it's a High risk combination. I take Suboxone with Gabapentin (Neurontin) which is high orrisk moderate (I forgot which) risk, but have had no issues for over a year, that said, I have a very high tolerance, maybe that's why, or my weight may play a huge factor, either way, I didn't know the risks going in. This week I was prescribed Fioricet for migraines at the Urgent Care, I'm scared to take the other meds while on Fioricet, best bet is to ask your Dr. and pharmacist, and do your own research.
