Can You Get Narcotic Prescriptions Filled Out Of State? (Top voted first)

Updated

I live in Somerset Ky. I have a pre written prescription of hydrocodone 90 10/325. I will be working in Franklin Indiana when my refill is due way into past refill date. I would like to know if Ind will fill that Ky script? Thank you

Yes, technically you can, however, most pharmacies will not fill them, because it is difficult for them to validate it to ensure it is a legitimate prescription.

You may want to try speaking to someone as your current pharmacy to see if they have an affiliate in that area, as they may be able to smooth the way for you to get it filled.

The FDA warns that narcotics carry the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Is there anything else I can help with?

No no no, and no! You CANNOT get a script for opioids filled in another state! It has been like this for YEARS!

Lord, the wrong info that is posted hear is so bad, of course you can have a script filled in any state. If I write you a script for lortab 10mg and I am a licensed Doc from say Maryland you can have it filled in almost any state. Example you are on vacation skiing in CA and have broken your leg, the hospital doc gives you 2 scripts for Percocet. You got one filled in CA before you left. He gave you a 2 week supply. You are home how in Maryland with the other script, any pharmacy in Maryland can fill it.

One the DEA # issued to docs are federal and not a state question. If you have a pharmacy you reg go to there should be no problem. Where a problem can happen is with the a hole pharmacist. As long as he can verify everything it should be fine, but state and fed pharm laws state that a lic pharmacist can decide to not fill any script narcotic or even penicillin if they chose not to, meaning it's always at the discretion of the pharmacist.
