Can Pain In Feet And Ankle Be From Losartan?

Updated

I started Losartan (50 mg/1 per day) in May, after battling the Lisinopril cough for 2 months. I have had a lot of pain in my feet and my achilles tendon on one ankle. I also have gained weight and have increased appetite. I also have pain in my knees. What is a good substitute for Losartan? Is it possible that these things I have described are caused by Losartan? Also, what about fatigue? Thank youi.

Hello, CJ! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain.

Yes, it could be due to the Losartan, it does sometimes cause these types of issue as side effects in some people that take it. I experienced similar issues from several blood pressure/cardiac medications, too.

Atacand is a similar medication, it contains the active ingredient Candesartan, it's also available as a generic and it's known to cause far few side effects than most of its relatives. When I had issues with the others, my doctor switched me to it and I've been taking it without a problem for several years, now.

Its most common side effects are dizziness, nausea and hypotension.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi, Me, too. I have to get off of Losartan. Ankle pain and cramps in my feet and ankles at night. I think it also causes headaches, which i never used to have. I was on just a thiazide and it was working ok but dr had me try Losartan which worked well with the thiazide but the side effects are too awful.I just have to find out how to taper off Losartan. Does anyone know how?

Hello, Patty! How are you?

Only your doctor can advise you as to the safety of that.

In many cases, they prefer to have someone start skipping doses, while gradually lowering their dosage.

However, there is a risk of your blood pressure going up, again, if the other medication isn't keeping it low enough. Thus, it might be safer for you to just switch to a different medication.
