Can I Stop Taking Multaq?

Updated

I have been taking Multaq for 10 months. I was hospitalized at that time for bronchitis. When asked what medications I was presently taking I stated all of them. I also mentioned that I have MVP and was taking 200 mg of Acebutolol 2 X daily. I also mentioned that 18 year's ago I went into A-Fib for 3 days. While hospitalized, they put me on Multaq. I since don't feel any PVC's but not sure if the Multaq eliminated them. Previously, I was taking Betapace as a preventative for A-Fib. Since taking the Multaq, I have been suffering with my stomach, extreme tiredness and get winded easily. Is taking the Multaq and Acebutolol over doing it ? I was told that the Acebutolol controls the lower part of the heart (PVC's) and the Multaq the upper part of the heart (A-Fib). I feel I cannot tolerate the Multaq any longer. I do have COPD and know that Multaq can also damage the lungs. I look forward to your feedback.

Can Multaq be stopped without causing serious consequences? How long does Multaq remain in your system after you stop taking it? I have not had AFib in 18 years so I'm not quite sure as to why I was put on this aggressive medication. Your response would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I found multaq 400mg to be overpriced and worthless. I decreased from 2 a day to one and new heart specialists stated it was worthless. It was prescribed initially by marginal physicians. I have done great without it.

Multaq can cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, weakness, drowsiness, chest pain, muscle cramps, and weight gain.

As to stopping it, you should not do so, without your doctor's approval, as that could cause rebound effects, which may include elevated heart rate, and other cardiac issues, some of which could be fatal.

Are any of you taking any other medications? If so, can you please post back and clarify?

Only people endorsing multaq are people/physicians on multaq payroll. They are pharmaceutical company out of FRANCE. I would also think USA has better chance of coming up with a drug that is similar if it was effective. I found it was a waste of money and NO help. Research drug, trials were stopped due to poor results.

The multaq caused me abdominal pain also. I would see a couple of highly regarded cardiac physicians on this drug, find out if they are being paid by manufacturer. Hospital put you on multaq, but because some doctor ordered the drug. The other drug whether that causes problems I don't know. I do know we pay a long term price for every drug we take. Make sure cardiac physician knows. I did months of research on drug and stopped taking then NEW cardiologists confirmed my suspicions. The doctor placing me on multaq initially has a reputation in area that is negative.

I would still verify with a good cardiologists. Drug prescribing varies by doctor to doctor. When taking multaq I felt no benefit.

I don't know what the non multaq drug is for and if the combination is for a reason. I know without a doubt the multaq had no positive help for me.

Bob, I have finally stopped the Multaq after speaking to my Cardio Dr. I told him I was getting too many side effects and felt extremely tired and nauseous. In addition, it is know that Multaq causes lung and Liver as well as kidney problems. I am since on Betapace which I had taken in the past. I definitely feel more energy and no nausea. I even went as far as to have an endoscopy from a fantastic Dr. which has a great reputation for years. He stated that I had no problems with my stomach and all biopsy's came back as negative. We'll see how the 40mgs of Betapace twice a day goes. Thank you for your support and assistance in making a positive decision.

Oh, I believe it. I am sure this pertains to other drugs as well. Trips to the Islands, cars, vacations for the medical staff, theater plays and many other perks.

I urge you to research the multaq. Most cardiologists I know and have seen, now determine that Multaq is not needed and trials were discontinued. I urge you to visit a different cardiologist and obtain their opinion. It was of no value to me. I could provide added info and it possibly will not reach you. Every AFIB situation is different. Obtain advice from cardiologists that have experience and are not connected to a pharmaceutical company that manufactures the drug, it is one from FRANCE. Do you think they have better research than the USA?

All these cardio guys are running a racket. The more pills they push, the more it benefits them. They aren't going to give up their weekend trips or vacations on the sales reps. Some Dr's I know are driving expensive cars which I'm sure are leased by the drug companies. Who knows today who is honest and sincere in providing honest care.

I know it can be difficult to judge. Knowledge of what drugs we put in our body is my best remedy. You need to find a cardiologists you trust, your life could depend on it. We all have negative experiences but you should not let that guide you forever.

My use of Multaq was a disaster. Proved to be of no help and wasted almost 10K of my money above insurance. I went from 2 a day to 1 a day on my own, and finally stopped using totally. Felt like it was doing nothing for me. So I started researching the drug and found lots of controversial information. Cardiologists that I trust, screened and discussed medical and AFIB history along with Multaq confirmed he felt I was wise to discontinue using Multaq based on history and all available data.

for me multaq has proven to be a costly WORTHLESS drug and finally confirmed by a few prominent cardiologists. The only people who seem to support Multaq are paid by pharmaceutical company. Manufacturer is a company from FRANCE I believe I would think the US has better resources. Regardless I noticed no benefit when taken and suffered no problems stopping use of Multaq.
