Can Sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim (sulfameth-trimeth) Also Known As Bactrim Cause A False Positive For Methamphetamines?

I was just recently hospitalized for MRSA. Before I was admitted my family dr prescribed Sulfmeth-Trimeth sub for Bactrim to help keep the MRSA from spreading but by then i had waited to long cause only three days later i was admitted because the infection got worse. To make a long story short about a month later my job did its usual hair follicle drug screening which is done every couple months and i tested positive for Methamphetamines. My job new i was hospitalized but i dont think they informed the MRO office now my job is on the line. Although i have never done any drugs nor failed a drug screening. PLEASE help me cause i dont know what else it could be. I also still have some of the medication cause if it reappears i can still take it as long as it it is not exspired.

No, from what I am finding, Bactrim hasn't been known to cause a false positive for that, it usually causes them for Benzodiazepines, such as Xanax, or Ativan.

Had you taken anything else, even over the counter products? Did they give you anything else in the hospital?

And as to taking the medication if the infection reappears, it is only wise to do so, if your doctor approves and you have a full course of treatment available. If you don't have a full course of treatment available, then it could lead to further problems with even worse antibiotic resistant bacteria.

Yes it does. I just failed a drug test for Methamphetamine. I've been taking the pill for my toothache and I haven't done any drugs.
