Can Soma Be Taken With Ms Contin?

Updated

I have been on antidepressants, Cymbalta, Lamictal, Ambien & Klonopin. I'm am currently off ambien now and weaning Klonopin, soon to be off. No complaints. My only trouble with Trazodone is major headaches. I do stress exercises daily for chronic low back pain and surgery for l1 fracture. I've just come off five 10/325 norco to 15 mg ms contin 3 a day. My pain is better but not fully controlled. I'm very aware of addiction and dependence, so the less controlled substance the better. What I'm looking for is advice. My sleep cycle is horrible due to a lot of different medical issues, such as kidney stones. I have colon polyps surgery in two months. Plus I deal with regular stress. I go to a therapist and many doctors just wanted opinions of staying on ms contin. It gave me the best relief so far and I'd like to know if soma or baclofen could be used together with ms contin for breakthrough pain, relaxing and sleep? I just want as little meds as possible.

That is something you'll want to bring up with your Doctor

Yes, they can be taken together, if your doctor approves. However, the FDA warns that you may experience more side effects than usual, such as dizziness, drowsiness, and sedation.

However, the medications you've mentioned are muscle relaxants, so they will not help with all types of pain.

Have you discussed these issues with your doctor, yet? Are you on any other medications?

Your easiest option is Morphine Sulphate immediate release for breakthrough pain, I get oxycontin which is extended release and oxycodone immediate release for breakthrough pain. Actually I hate them and want back on dihydrocodeine which is great for sleeping. But as your saying the ms continus is best for you then you must discuss this option with your doctor. Pain therapy is complex, and the benzodiazepines your coming off will affect your sleep..... badly. Sometimes an opiate along with simple paracetamol or ibuprofen does best... but I never recommended cocodamol or codydramol for continued use as (and have said a million times) paracetamol is quite toxic and I believe even the max allowed dose is too much..... but then I know what pharmas don't like to tell you.

Hey, I'm sorry to hear about your pain and your conditions!. However I am going through/In the same exact place with chronic pain syndrome and such. Unfortunately even though I have very many different and chronic muscle, Bone and nerve pain. I'll within about 16-18 years or so of all this getting progressively worse over time, I have only found one Doctor that would prescribe me Some!!! So If I were you and u found a good and understanding doctor keep him!! I wish the best for you.¡!! Ever other docs I've brought it up to they were like "ah Soma Coma" that's why they don't like prescribing the barbiturate. It's the best muscle relaxer and/sleep aid I've ever taken!

Sorry to hear you're close to what I felt. I'm no longer on ms contin and just letting my very competent and compassionate Dr prescribe what he feels is best. I'm on Doxepin for sleep from my psychiatrist and trying out different er pain meds to see what works with my body chemistry. I'm very lucky to have such a good Dr and pray he won't be hit by the DEA for trying so hard to keep me semi pain-free.

How is your level of consciousness throughout the day? I believe diphenhydramine or 50mg Trazadone is much safer and not addictive when compared to Soma. Be very careful with soma. Do not take a higher dose than is prescribed. Nearly all of the accidental overdoses with narcotics involve a sedative of some sort. Soma can initially make you feel fine but depending on your liver and kidney function the bioactive amount in your blood stream can escalate fast particularly if you go above a cautious prescribed amount. I've had to take Soma in the past and I felt drunk with it. Not a little drunk Very drunk (as in alcohol) I took it with a mild pain reliever for a severe back injury. I got up from what I thought was my bed in the middle of the night and discovered after I fell flat on my face that instead I was in the living room and had fell asleep there and tripped over the coffee table. My partner in the bedroom thought I had fallen through the floor. It was very loud and painful.

I was in excellent health back then and the amount of soma and pain med was modest. It was a big surprise to get in that condition with the small amount that was prescribed. We all react differently and have different physiologies and metabolism that is why I particularly caution you against soma. It can sneak up on you.
