Well, first you need to understand the difference between addiction and dependence.

Addiction happens when someone abused a medication, because they like the effects it has on them, so they keep taking more and more of it, since those effects gradually wear off, as their body gets used to the medication. A sudden cessation in these cases can result in very dangerous withdrawal symptoms.

Dependence is what occurs when you use a medication, as prescribed, for a long period of time. It happens just because your body has gotten used to having it on a regular basis. A sudden cessation in these cases results in much more mild withdrawal symptoms that usually don't put the person in any danger.

So, if you are taking them as prescribed, you can become dependent, but would not be an addict, unless you abuse them.

Is there anything else I can help with?

I was prescribed hydroco/apap 5-325 for an arthritis kneww pain. The pain disappeared after a few days, but I continued taking one tablet of the hydroco each night as a substitute for Ambien which I had been taking for years for a sleeping problem. The Hydroco makes me sleep muich better and does not give me disagreeable side effects as the ambien does. Should I continue taking one tab of hydroco each night as a sleeping aide? I am 90 years old.

90 years old God Bless you.......
Hey if that is what works for you , you go right ahead if i ever reach your blessed age and i had the choice between the 2 meds i would take the Hydrcodone if it helps you best then you answered your own question right ?
I was worried about taking this med but it helps my severe back pain, i was worried about addiction because i don't even like taking pills of any kind but i am not abusing taking them and it is better than being in severe pain because nothing can be done for my back.
I will keep you in my prayers
