Call Purdue Pharma About New Oxycontin 80mg Op (Page 2)

Updated

This is the number to Purdue when calling select Opt # 2 and explain the adverse reaction that you are having from the new reformulated Oxycontin. The number is 888-726-7535. If the new type is working for you then great. I and several people I spoke with said it gets stuck in your throat even with food. Plus it does not last 12 hour. I understand why they re-made it kids should not take it and as far as how people take it snort, inject or chew its their business. Nobody should tell another ADULT how to live his or her life. It sucks to live in pain it really does. Good Luck All

I have been taken oxcontin for 7 years. I never knew how much they were doing until the new formula was released. I thought I had a stomach bug or food poisoning.2 weeks went by before I notice the different in the pills. Since taken them I ended up having my gall bladder removed. I lived a painful life before with the pills now I'm in agony. #18 its funny you know how much they are worth and you really shouldn’t make accusations about people you have never met. You should be ashamed. I make plenty of money working every day and I could be collecting my disability but chose to work and provide a nice living for my family. I now have gotten used to feeling the broken l1 and l5 and the pins in my ankles and knees. The new pills do not work and have terrible side effects. All others knock me out completely so I can only take them before bed. I feel sorry for all the people like myself that need the pills and now can’t get them. It’s really sad that we have to suffer in this day in age. I hope they change the formula somehow and we can get the same pain management we had before. God bless

i have upset stomach and when i talked to Dr., to get permision to up the dosage,(due to the fact that they are not controling my pain) his response is I should not have to. My opinion will be that whwen Purdue start's to loose MI$$IONS they will return to old formula, until then the more we as patients complainte about it the faster we will see result's.For your info. I am a patient since 1995 when Purdue steped to me to try their new medication, that was better then the morphine and demerol that i was on.Now i can tell my Dr. that i will go back to Morphine and Demerol. Thanks Purdue!

Well, this is my first post so I hope I'm doing this right..but I had to add my comments after reading some of the info. I was looking for information to see if others were having problems & I was relieved to find, sadly, I too am having severe problems with the oxycontin op 80mg tablets. I had severe stomach pains, vomiting, burning in my esophagus/reflux, and terrible taste in my mouth. I ended up in the hospital for several days related to problems with this new reformulated drug...including the fact that it wasn't working consistently as the old ones did also. I did file a complaint with Purdue but they don't seem to care...just ask questions but don't answer yours. I did get a call back asking more questions & received certified return receipt boiler-plated letters and other letters asking for more information that they already had from my calls...but still didn't answer any of my questions saying it's propietary information.
I have since changed to Opana ER and still tweaking a bit with the dosages but finding it's working well now. I did have some minor side effects & some withdrawal symptoms changing over which I don't understand why, but have since gone away. I am lucky to have a caring dr and one that was aware of the many complaints with the 80mg tablets. What I am angry about is that there's a letter floating around sent to healthcare providers about the complaints about the 80mg tablets, but Purdue just basically blamed the patients and advised the health care providers to counsel their pts to take them whole, with a full glass of water & swallowing it immediately...nothing about the people that already do that and still had problems though! So seems like Purdue is blaming the patients instead of themselves.
Glad to be off this new stuff now...but it just wrong what this company did to us.

I was just put on the new OCXN formula and have exactly same complaint as most others. I have been on Oxycontin 10, 20 & 40 ER for 2 1/2 years. They worked just fine until I was given this new formulation tamper resistant. They DO NOT WORK. I have constant nausea, stomach cramps, migraine like headached and am in 9 -10 pain level most of the time. I get maybe an hour or two of pain relief when I take my breakthrough pain meds w/ the oxycontin - but if I take the Ocycontin alone - absolutely nothing to stop the chronic neck lumbar spine bilateral hip pain. I need to report this to my pain management doctor and FDA. My insurance company is paying for dud medication and I am really upset about the switch. We need to take this up with FDA as soon as possible. Druggies are going to find a way to get druigs regardless of how tamper resistant a product is -- why are we who are in chronic pain 24/7 being punished for what the druggies do? I am going to ask my pain management doctor to just put me on straight pain meds and to heck with paying the price for druggies abuse of medication.

go giants!!! Anyway, I ruptured my neck and back in a serious auto wreck (not my fault) and have taken 80s for years..I went back to work after an operation and have supported a family and sent a son to Ohio university..But now given these new op's, I feel so much pain after work it is interfering with my sleep and recovery..These simply do not work!!! I am losing my temper because of serious pain and fear losing my job..The old adage about if something is too good , some four-eyed college idiot, maybe I shouldn't say that since I hold a degree, will change it..This is not for the better..And people listen, if we do not group together file a lawsuit we are in for a hell of a long life of pain and suffering..Purdue gambled on this drug being prescribed more before the generic version shows in 2014..Most doctors will not prescribe this drug even with the reformulated version. They will lose business but the billions of dollars they have profited made them rich, and powerful comes from insurance..Someone has to get to the bottom of this sooner than later..we are in for a miserable decade......

To # 28: How do we ban together via the internet? I would like to start a class action law suit, but it isn't as easy as it sounds if the FDA approved the drug. I have been on the new formulation for 10 days now and the adverse effects kicked in within the first two days. I have had a chronic migraine headache and severe nausea since taking the first dose. I woke up screaming my head off a few nights ago and was told by my S/o that I was hitting him and talking in my sleep as if I were fighting someone. When I woke up screaming I had no idea where I was. I have PTSD and the new formulation triggered one of the worst episodes I have ever experienced - this coming off of having a bad experience about a week before that I thought was the cause -- but all of the first week on this awful stuff, I have been having severe mood swings and crying jags. I was in my doctors office just today, and just had an emotional meltdown because of the migraines combined with not getting any pain relief from the Oxycontin. I take 15 mgs of oxycodone for breakthrough pain and it is because I have this on hand that I can even function for the time being. I am calling my pain management doctor first thing tomorrow -- but I have no idea where they stand on this and if they have had any other complaints from other patients. All I know is that I absolutely cannot take this new formula and am of the conviction that this stuff is not metabolizing and we could be facing severe liver failure issues too. This stuff is poison and after a week of nightmares, my subconscious is trying to tell me something -- for instances one of the nightmares a few nights before waking up screaming my head off - I dreamed that two tidal waves were trying to sweep me off the beach while I was serving food. Then a voice in the dream said: The gravy is poison!... I now think my subconscious dreams have been trying to warn me about the dangers of this new drug and today I decided to check the internet to see if it was only me who was feeling crazy after taking my usual dose and this is when I found this site. What a relief to know that I am not the only one suffering -- but how do we UNITE and take action. I am going to complain to the FDA and Purdue -- but I don't think that will do much unless someone out there suffers and dies from a dose of this poison. Sad and tragic as that is -- this is the only way to get the FDAs attention.

I have been on 80mg Oxycontin for 10 years. I have multiple autoimmune diseases. The great thing about the OLD oxycontin is that it had no side effects. I can NOT take the new Oxyctontin - it does not work. I went through weeks of horrible withdrawal symptoms!!! We have tried every other long acting pain med and they do NOT work for me. I went from being able to function quite normally to now being bed ridden. I never ONCE ABUSED oxycontin! Please bring the old Oxycontin back. However, even if you do - I might be afraid to go back on it - there is no way I could go through that withdrawal again. And I had just had a major surgery at the exact same time as they switched them - it was horrible! I now can not do anything - can't clean my house, can't go anywhere - nothing!

I called my pain management doc as soon as I was absolutely certain that I was not imagining these gawd awful adverse effects that I mentioned in two other posts. At first the nurse at the clinic said I had to stay on them -- and then I freaked because I had an angina attack on the 13th day of taking this poison. I started crying hysterically on the phone and said I refused to take them no matter what she claimed my PM doctor said. I don't believe the nurse even bothered to convey my first message on Friday about the adverse events and when they called me back on Monday saying the doctor (who I have been a patient of for over 2 years) said I had to take them in spite of the fact that I had a mini heart attack (angina) that could have led to a stroke due to the severe migraines she changed her tune very quickly as well as my prescription to 30 mgs of MSContin 3 times a day. So now I am taking 30 mgs less than before, but the migraines, stomach gastrointestional cramps/gerd / mood swings/crying jags and night terrors stopped immediately. And as I suspected, all of the adverse effects we experienced were directly related to the new reformulation which I suspect is going to kill someone in the form of a stroke or heart attack! I also told them that they had better go to the Purdue website and thoroughly review the 50 pages explaining the adverse events for the new protocol. This was the second time that this pain clinic refused to listen to my call about adverse events when taking off label medication -- as this happened once before when they put me on gabapentin and elavil in spite of my having a condition that would percipitate angina pectis attacks. I am really beginning to wonder if these nurses who serve as some sort of shield for the doctors realize the harm they may be causing due to their indifference or prejudice about certain patients who complain about adverse effects and make them do their homework. If this happens a third time I will report these nurses to the state agency that regulates their professional license and sue the hospital for gross negligence and indifference. The entire medical industry is becoming so corrupt and driven by profits instead of humane and competent health care that I am now afraid to see a doctor or go to a hospital unless I am in an accident and taken there in an ambulance. It is as though we are being punished for being ill and if we do not have cadillac insurance, these care givers just don't care whether we are suffering or in need of competent medical attention. I have totally given up on conventional medicine, the so called cure is worse than the illness. What ever happened to the physician's oath to 'harm none'? Why weren't our physicians given the new protocol for the OP reformulation so that they could review their patients medical records and see in advance whether this poison would cause the mass level of adverse effects and harm to sensitive individuals who have been taking this medication for years w/o any adverse effects? There is something terribly wrong with this and my guess is that the FDA is trying to phase out Oxycontin completely and tricked or coerced Purdue to do its bidding. I heard from my pharmacy where I had my new pain meds prescribed that they are having to switch most of their long time customers from OP to another pain med because the insurance companies are refusing to pay $11.00 per pill. I know my old script for the OC were close to $600.00 a month -- now it is close to $900.00 a month for 90 pills a month. Purdue just got a serious sucker punch from the FDA -- and we CPP got screwed out of having a pain med that work efficiently and did not give you a drugged high - or least not for me, anyway. I never got any kind of high from the OC - just felt normal and able to function w/o feeling drugged or impaired. I predict Purdue's stock will pummel when the word gets out that the OP will not be authorized by insurance companies due to the exorbidant costs to the public. And the irony will be that some junky will find a way to extract the oxycontin from the rubber glue and still misuse the drug.
My advice to those of you in serious 24/7 pain like I am is to ask your pain doctor to switch you MSContin as a trial and see if that works as effectively for your pain management. So far, I am doing fine and am on 30 mgs less a day w/ some breakthrough pain that is covered by my rescue drug of oxycodone, 15 mgs. Good luck to all of you in serious pain - I know this has been a difficult transition - but you have every right to refuse to take a medication that is causing you more harm than good. Read up on your patient rights and stand up for yourselves. This is your constititional right and no doctor has the right to harm you without suffering the consequences of being sued for malpractice.

For all us people that r dependent on oxycodone and don't like the new ops , remember there are plenty other great options that I have tried and liked for example: oxymorphone (opana), 30mg ir roxycodone( r stands for rapid release) and even hydromorphone (dilaudid). Don't give up! The big corporations can't defeat us!

Hi, this is to timofva, do you know if those are permanent generics. or is it temporary, and then back to the same misery of reformulated op. Which I will not take again. I do know of the ethex that is the one I have had the couple times I had my med. filled and I was so happy.
I take my medication the way it is perscribed. never abused it in any way. Not that that has anything to do with this. But the first time I asked the my phamacist if there was any of the originals left or any generic, I was under the impression that he assumed I was a drug seeker, which really upset me, even though I have had them percribed for the last 6 years. Then the next time it was like he did a 180% turn around, telling me everyone was having the same problems, and at that point he gave the ethex and is now understanding. Sorry to go on and on, but you are the first person to have mentioned this. So I was wondering if you know is this temporary or do you know if these will remain to be available. Thanks, hope you see this.

I for one am just outraged about this whole OP thing as the rest of ya'll, I too thought I was going crazy, I understand why but ya know their are very ill or chronic pain patients due to all sorts of injuries. I was hospitalized via ambulance after taking one of those OPs. I was very and still am very sick, after taking these OC's for 11 yrs same strength no changes. I have withdrawl symptoms even after 3 weeks of discontinuation as I'm affraid to ever take another, No pain relief at all, Heart symptoms as I have a rare disease n later next day discovered soreness in heart chest area,I get stomach aches. I have always taken my meds as perscibed I do not believe in abuse as it kills, I believe in managing my pain to sustain a quality of life. I have called above #'s aswell and I'm in for the BAD DRUG LAWSUIT should it come soon. This is just killing us whom are lagit. patients being seen by our dr's once a month or sometimes sooner. The thing is we are ingesting rubber and plastic! Purdue Pharma has done a real bad thing to us and we must stand up to it and fight or move on to a different drug for our own well being. Who in the world would make cronic pain patients go through this is beyond me just think rubber and Plastic. Next we'll be taking paper and plactic. In all the years I have taken these OC's I have never I say NEVER had to be hospitalized due to this new formula. It's only to save PURDUES A++ from losing. BAD DRUG. Shame on them for messing us all up with these unheard of symptoms never had before until OP came out. One last note every last thing in this world is called addicted too. Coffee,Smoking, Chew, Gardening, Eating ect. so what gives!!!! GOD BLESS Everyone for your symptoms you are now encountering I know how you feel I'm there too. BAD DRUG IT WILL KILL, Next time ya go to pharmacy just ask for paper NO PLASTIC.

Since taking new formula in Sept, 2010; I have had no pain relief, high blood sugar (never had an issue with sugar) abnormal kidney function tests, abnormal thyroid function tests/protein in urine, hands ankles/feet swelling, shortness of breath; at times severe sob, constipation, difficulty or inability to sleep (now need sleep meds), night sweats, excessive sweating overall, flushing, very dry skin, dizziness, blurred vision; increasingly & (rapidly) getting worse, weakness, difficulty grasping, Nausea, loss of appetite, fatigue, intermittent high blood pressure & increased loss of balance (both may be due to increased pain) irritability, originally crying for no apparent reason (now I cry out of frustration & pain & for no apparent reason, mood swings I suppose, I am not myself overall.. Took years to find tmedicine that worked w/o side effects; the origanl formula accomplished that the new one doesn't. I have been sent to the ER 2 times (due to side effects) had to see many new doctors due to new lab results, endured more tests alll since the new formula.I do not believe all these lab results & symptoms (side effects) are a coincidence, the timing is exactly when I started new formula which, by the way, I was not told or warned I was taking something different; I learned the hard way through SIDE EFFECTS & NO PAIN RELIEF!
Thank you for listening

After reporting to FDA and to Purdue Labs two things happened to bring Purdue further shame.
1- I was sent a self addressed mailer, and told to send a sample of my Oxycontin OP to Purdue for study. This is crazy, since they already have my pharmacy lot # and should have gotten this from the pharmacy! As it stands, this is a 31 day month, and I get 30 days worth of meds a month. I will allready be 1 day shy on my meds, due to the extra day, and Purdue cares so little about pain that they have now made me 1 1/2 days at months end without meds!!!
SO... I went online to whine about this to FDA and my congressman..next
2- On the FDA website, I read the following recent discovery:
Propoxyphene: Withdrawal - Risk of Cardiac Toxicity New data shows that Propoxyphene and Propoxyphene-containing products can cause serious toxicity to the heart, even when used at therapeutic doses. Posted 11/19/2010
This was alarming because in the varying dosages of Oxy contin OP there is hydroxypropyl cellulose and 2 other Propoxyphene related products.
I have sent this documentation to the FDA, Purdue, and to my congressman.
I invite you all to do the same.
