Why doesn't butrans show up in a urine test?

You're using it and it didn't show up in your test?

Are you using it as often and at the dosage prescribed?

Additionally, have you had diarrhea recently? Have you increased your fluid intake?

Butrans does not show in ua. Also urine needs to be warm. It is a different type of narcotic. Not consdered a true opiate. Your physician would order two uas for you.

My urinalysis came back negative for butrans. Don't understand why. I apply flonase on the skin prior to use and place tagaderm over the patch. I am have hot flashes due to menopause. I really confused...I have been wearing patches for several months without any breaks.

I have been using the Butrans 20mg patches exactly as prescribed for over a year. I was given 4 separate ua tests and all returned with negative results. I recently went to an independent testing facility and paid for my own test when they told me that the normal ua would not detect the Butrans patch. After two weeks, those results also was negative. What gives?

I got the paper form of my ua test yesterday. Totally negative for all drugs including the Buprenorphine(which I am taking).The only drug trace was the Ketamine that the Hospital uses every two months when I get the nerve block in my back. Can I try to find a testing facility that can test hair for any signs of the Buprenorphine? I need help. I am using my Butrans patches but the test says no.

I have been having the same problem of receiving false negative results of Butrans 20mg patch in my urine tests despite the fact that I have applied it faithfully every week for the past 8 months. I have also received 2 false positive results for morphine which I have NEVER taken. I am prescribed and taking 10/325mg 4x a day of hydrocodone by this same pain management specialist who just opened this practice and has started treating me with a great deal of disrespect and mistrust. He recently refused to prescribe ANY pain medication even though I offered to have any and all extensive blood tests to prove that I am NOT abusing and/or not using the medications prescribed. I have legitimately diagnosed medical conditions that cause considerable pain including degenerative disc desease in my neck, herniated disc and scoliosis in my lumbar region, arthritis in my hips, and fibromyalgia for which I take Cymbalta. I am also prescribed medications for diabetes, hypothyroidism, high blood pressure and cholesterol, water retention, anxiety, and REM sleep deprivation disorder due to chronic pain. Isn't it very dangerous for this Dr to abruptly discontinue the pain medication esp the Butrans that I have been on for 8 months? Thru research I learned that MANY medical conditions,medications, otc meds, and even foods can cause both positive and negative test results and that I must now PROVE my innocence although I found no answers to where to go or how to go about doing that. I am so upset, frustrated, and furious at being treated like a liar and common street junky that I don't know where to turn for help. Not that it should matter, but I have a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology AND a Chemical Abuse Counseling Certification in MH/D&A Dual Diagnosis, currently retired due to ill health and don't even drink alcohol! My PCP had no answers either. If anyone has ANY information or advice as to where I can turn for help PLEASE respond ASAP. Thanks in advance and God bless!

I have had the same problems with Butrans not showing up in a UA. I applied the patch every 7 days as prescribed. The pain clinic doctor released me from his care because he said I violated the pain clinic agreement because I had a negative result for the Butrans. It made me feel like a liar.

I am curious as well. I have colitis and chronic diahrea. I havent had solid stool in 2 years and I am about to be DC from pain management for 2 false negatives on Butrans. Plus I take meds for bipolar, hypothyroidism, other meds for pain management....I left in tears Wed because I went back on Oxy just so I wont have another negative test and get booted. Im a recovering addict and a drug and alcohol counselor looking for a new job. Even with a doctors note, how is that going to work? The APRN said "I am suspicious of you doing something illegal". With Butrans??? Really??? And then you prescribe me oxy??? I dont get it. Oh she also said its a myth about false negatives for Butrans. Pleeease...

Butrans 10mcg only puts .25mg PER DAY in your blood stream! That's only .01mg per hour! The 20mcg puts .5mg PER DAY in your bloodstream tats .02mg per hour in your bloodstream. ANY Doctor who has more tan a few people on BUTRANS should KNOW IT DOES "NOT" show up on a standard Buprenorphine drug test. The Buprenorphine Urine Drug Screen is looking for Subutex & Suboxone, which is typically from 4mg to 24mg per day. The blood level from any strength Butrans will NOT show up on a UDT. They would specifically have to check for these SUPER LOW Levels of the drug & it's metabolites!

They would specifically have to check for these SUPER LOW Levels of the drug & it's metabolites! There is only one or two labs that have a test to detect BUTRANS - It HAS TO BE STRICTLY for BUTRANS or it WILL NOT Show up! Hydrocodone has Morphine as a metabolite! So ANYONE taking Hydrocodone SHOULD show positive for Morphine & SOMETIMES will be the ONLY drug to show up! When first taken, Hydrocodone will show up as Hydrocodone, then hydrocodone & morphine, and then JUST Morphine! Depend when you took your last dose! If you take Valium, it will show up as Diazapam, Temazepam, & Oxapam (Valium, Ristoril & Serax). If you take Temazepam, you will be positive for Temazepam & Oxapam. You need to know what metabolites are formed after first pass metabolism. Sometimes even more liver passes! Sometimes Doctor will use your ignorance to dismiss you! I was on the 5mcg Butrans patch & they tested me twice and were going to let me go if the 2nd came up negative, even though I showed them I was wearing the patch. Luckily I researched, and printed of all the documentation to prove that the Buprenorphine UDT will not show Butrans, as it is meant to detect Subutex & Suboxone LEVELS ONLY! My only question was I the ONLY person on Butrans, or Just the only one being drug tested? The doctors should be seeing that EVERY SINGLE BUTRANS USER IS SHOWING UP NEGATIVE FOR BUPRENORPHINE! AND IF They are "showing positive" THEN THEY HAVE BEEN USING SUBOXONE OR SUBUTEX!!!

I’ve been on Butrans 10mcg off and on for several years, and I don’t take any other meds except my ADHD med (which she knows about) and OTC. When my doctor retired a year ago, I had to find a new one. He put me on the 5mcg, and after 2 negative tests, DC’d me. I found another doctor who prescribed the 10mcg. For the first 2 months I did have the Butrans in my UA, now I’ve just had my 4th test and the second negative. Even though I’ve asked her to send the test out for additional testing, and despite the fact that I show her the patch on my arm or side when she says I’m negative, I’m worried that I’ll be DC’d again. This is awful, it’s the only Mrs that has ever helped even a little bit without running the risk of abuse. I’m seriously upset.

I have been using the Butrans 20mg patch for over a year. I change it as directed. But when pain management urine tests me I sometimes test negative. I believe in a year my results came back negative more than half of the tests. I found this article that may be a possible explanation for those on the highest dose 20mg.

"Can a positive drug test come back negative?

When a drug is present in such high concentrations that there are no more binding sites left on the antibody, the sample may present with falsely low values. If the low value is below the test cutoff, the result will be negative."
