What is the difference between bupropion hcl xl and buproprion xl

This type of thing often confuses people and I understand why.

However, there is no difference. They are both the same medication, the hcl just hasn't been listed on both of them. It stands for hydrochloride and designates the specific chemical salt that the medication is derived from, but it doesn't have to be included on a prescription or medication label.

You are wrong about that. They are not the same. I Take the Wellbutrin XL and twice they tried to switch me to the HCL. As soon as I start taking the supposedly same Wellbutrin HCL, I start noticing it's not working almost immediately. The HCL either isn't as strong or is something else. I guess if you start on the regular XL you have to stay on the XL because if you switch to HCL after starting XL it wont work. The regular XL kind seem to work much better. I am living proof of that.

Me too! That's why I was looking this up. I was on 150 HCL XL Bupropion (for MONTHS), and then I got a refill from Walgreens. It only says 150 XL Bupropion, and I feel different. Better, in that I have more energy, but it also exacerbates my IBS-C. Whereas, before, there was no effect on that. I fully believe they're different.
