Bupropion Hcl Sr 150 Mg Purple/rnd/rph {b41} : Side Effects

Updated

I have been to a neurologist, a rheumatologist, i've been for an M.R.I., and also been for more blood tests than I can count. All because of side effects I had been having for nearly two years. Here are a list of symptoms I had while taking Bupropion HCL SR 150mg:

*dry mouth, *severe headache, *increased sweating, *joint aches, *blurred/tunnel vision, *dizziness, *chest pain, *fainting/black out, *irregular heartbeat, *hearing problems/ringing in the ears, *agitation, *confusion, *anxiety, *shaking, *weakness, *hallucinations, *swelling/numbness in face, tongue & lips, *high blood pressure.

My doctor's first concern was stroke. The neurologist ruled that out because the symptom of numbness/tingling would start in my mouth and move to my hand/fingers over the course of an hour or so. The neurologist's concern was seizure disorder. The M.R.I. showed nothing unusual.

On a whim, I stopped (cold-turkey) taking this medication the end of August 2011 (I know this is not recommended and I would not suggest it to anyone to stop this way). I have now been symptom-free for nearly 2 months.

I know that a lot of the side effects I had were rare, but for those of us who are part of that small percent of people who get them, they are DEVASTATING! If you have been having these symptoms and cannot get a diagnosis, please consider weaning yourself off this medication with the help of your health care professional. My children have noticed such a difference in me from the 2 years I was on this medication - it's almost unbelievable.

Thank you for providing this useful information to our site users.

Regardless of how long someone has been taking a medication, it is always possible for it to start affecting them differently and yes, there are some people that are sensitive to medications and will experience nightmarish side effects, when most people don't.

I have the same problem with medications and my doctor has to be very careful about what she prescribes.

Thank goodness. I thought I was crazy. I took it for only one week. After finally getting to sleep (it caused insomnia) on the 5th day I woke up with headache, numbness and tingling in teh mouth and both hands. I thought I was having a stroke and was afraid to move. I couldn't think clearly. I stopped taking it but it took about 3 days before the symotoms went away. Doctor told me just not to take it again.

Bull s*** on all that stuff you just to take the med and if you have all the sides don't take ASAP but all products have sides and if you read them and are a hypo you will get all of them ssris don't let me have orgasms without right timing etc. the Wellbutrin curves that and helps your dopamine rebuild when ssris only work seratonin

Update on Wellbutrin. I have been on Wellbutrin now for four months taking 150 xl sr am and another at 1pm. In the beginning you have some start up effects, but after that it seems to be working with some clarity, not so slow getting going in the morning, and most doctors I have talk to or read articles on say that Wellbutrin is a great medication for people who were addicted to pain pills then went on suboxone for three or four months tapering that down to where you get at under 1mg a day then skip some days for like a week or so then stop the suboxone. You feel the withdrawls from the suboxone seems to be when you hit the 2mg mark and then 1mg mark until you work thru skipping the days and finally you stop. The Wellbutrin has helped rebuild the dopamine that pain pills destroy, so that's why the doctors use Wellbutrin especially when people get off of all pain meds, because it helps with the depression that sets in from the pain meds plus suboxone, and the doc said I should remain on Wellbutrin for six months to allow the dopamine get rebuilt. One thing else doc said Wellbutrin does have a small amount of serotonin reuptake which helps anxiety and depression. From what I have been told some of people who go on Wellbutrin, if you have high blood pressure it could elevate the anxiety some. Doc said blood pressure drives anxiety, so don't give up on the Wellbutrin, before asking your doc to check your blood pressure and maybe take what they say and it should help until your body gets use to it. I have found that Wellbutrin has been the best psyc med and is not hard to taper. Lexapro is good as well, but if you get the orgasm issue, it's not good, because it will make you more down. Some have taken Wellbutrin and lexapro together. My doc said to try Wellbutrin for six months alone, and the lexapro was not bad tapering either. Almost all other meds that I had some quacks try to make me take we're very hard on my system and hard to get off. Just a suggestion, and I do understand about side effects, but unless the Wellbutrin gave you a allergic reaction, try to hold on for a few weeks and see if they don't go away. maybe even ask doc about keeping on just the 150 xl sr once a day for a while. Its not fun either way, having depression/anxiety etc. I wish they had an analysis for other areas of our bodies the docs could use to determine the right med, but it seems the best thing is find one that knows pharmacology, and maybe that will help. It is a proven fact that over 60% of psyc doctors just spin the wheel.
