My son is 2 years and six months. His Dr prescribed him Bromphenir pseudoephed today and my husband accidentally gave him 3 times the indicated dosage. Is this an emergency? What should we do? Thanks! ## It is very important that you read the leaflet included with the prescription. Watch for signs of overdose or side effects. Call the pharmacy and explain what happened. If they are closed then call the pediatrician's office - they almost all have an after hours answering service for situations like this. The doctor or nurse should be able to tell you what to watch for. There's also poison control at 800-222-1222. Does this medication help relieve fluid in ears? Can it be used nightly for 1-2 weeks to help eliminate fluid in the ears of a 55 lb, 5-1/2 yr old? ## The active ingredients listed (Brompheniramine and Pseudoephedrine) are found in a number of medications. One brand is Bromfed-DM syrup (NDC 54868-6377) which also contains Dextromethorphan. It's a combination cough suppressant, antihistamine, and decongestant for treating symptoms of the common cold, flu, & allergies. In reading the product label (PDF) for Children's Dimetapp Cold & Allergy (which contains Phenylephrine instead of Pseudoephedrine), it says that it is not indicated for children under 6 years of age.
