Bromphenir Pseudoephed Dm Syrup

Does this medication help relieve fluid in ears? Can it be used nightly for 1-2 weeks to help eliminate fluid in the ears of a 55 lb, 5-1/2 yr old?

The active ingredients listed (Brompheniramine and Pseudoephedrine) are found in a number of medications. One brand is Bromfed-DM syrup (NDC 54868-6377) which also contains Dextromethorphan. It's a combination cough suppressant, antihistamine, and decongestant for treating symptoms of the common cold, flu, & allergies.

In reading the product label (PDF) for Children's Dimetapp Cold & Allergy (which contains Phenylephrine instead of Pseudoephedrine), it says that it is not indicated for children under 6 years of age. It sounds like your son is pretty close to the minimum age. What I'd recommend is getting it cleared by their pediatrician prior to starting them on it since their Dr might even have a better solution to treat their ears. I hope this helps and good luck!

Connie, I don't believe a 4 year old is able to take this combination of active ingredients. I'd definitely get it cleared by their pediatrician first.
