Breaking 5mg Methadone

I was just started on 5 milligram Methadone, and I'm already on 30 mg oxycodone three times a day, after losing my leg. But I just received my refill and there's a deep score in the pills. I was told this is a 12-hour pill. So my question is whether this is the wrong pill because I thought that any 12-hour extended bill would not be scored and able to be broken or I would overdose or get too much at once? So can you tell me is that appropriate? What happens if it breaks? Can I take the two halves separately all at once or will it release all at one time? I don't know why it's scored. Thank you for any reply.

You really need to call the pharmacy that filled your prescription and describe the pill to them and ask them if it is ok to break the pill in two. You can call any pharmacy really and ask them. Please do yourself a favor and make the call no reason to risk adverse effects when a professional answer is a five minute phone call away. Best of luck!

Hi Lisa - as far as I know there's not an extended release Methadone tablet. I believe that the liquid lasts longer, but as far as 5 mg tablets go, I checked the NDC database narrowed down to Methadone 5mg tablet and it did not list anything extended release. I also saw pictures of the tablets with score marks. And I always thought that having score marks indicated that a pill is meant to be broken in half if needed. Exactly which markings appear on your tablets?

I also agree with Jason, that you should call your pharmacist just to verify since they can tell you over the phone. I'd really like to know what they say so please write back, ok?
