Brand Changes

Updated

I've been on nortriptaline for 4 years, mainly for nerve irritation after an op. I had another op to put the problem right but continued with N because it helped my mood and pelvic pain. Just lately the pain has returned. my pharmacist has changed brands but tells me there isn't any way the tablet could cause this problem because the active ingredient is exactly the same. Could my discomfort returning and a change of brand be just coincidence ?

I just had exactly the same thing happen. I was on Nortryptyline for about year and it worked great. Switched pharmacies, got a new brand (Teva) made in Eastern Europe, and now the pain has come roaring back. When I switch back to the old the pain subsides. The Teva brand also causes bad headaches and nausea.

There is no effing way this is the same drug. I'd bet my life that a lab assay of the new brand would reveal it either is not nortryptyline or if it is, it is full of impurities.

I'm going to the pharmacy today but I don't expect them to do anything. I have to do something.

Hello Sally! How are you doing? How long have you been on your current dose?

Our bodies will get used to anything we ingest regularly, for a long period of time, and that can cause it to stop working as well, so when this happens, you should inform your doctor, because they may need to adjust your dose, or have you try a different medication.

The FDA lists the typical side effects of Nortriptyline as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and mood changes.

Eric, what are the markings on the new ones you received? This information would help me research more about it for you.
