I heard that Fosamax causes jaw cancer. I am taking Boniva. Should I get off of this medicine?

Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva and Osteonecrosis of the Jaw

Several cases of bisphosphonate-associated osteonecrosis of the jaw have been associated with the use of oral bisphosphonates, including Fosamax®, Actonel®, and Boniva®. Fosamax, Actonel, and Boniva are medications used for the treatment of osteoporosis.
Osteonecrosis of the jaw is a disease resulting from the temporary or permanent loss of blood supply to the jaw bones. Without blood, the jaw bone tissue dies, and ultimately the jaw bones may collapse. This is sometimes referred to as jaw death.

The symptoms of osteonecrosis of the jaw (jaw death) include the following:

pain
soft-tissue swelling and infection
loosening of teeth
exposed bone
numbness, heaviness and abnormal sensations of the jaw
Brands of oral bisphosphonates include the following:
Actonel ®, manufactured by Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals
Boniva ®, manufactured by Roche Laboratories
Fosamax ®, manufactured by Merck & Co.
Fosamax ® Plus D, manufactured by Merck & Co.
Skelid ®, manufactured by Sanofi Pharmaceuticals
Didronel ®, manufactured by Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals

I think you mean the jaw muscles can die, not turn into cancer. I tried to cut and paste some material for you to read. I hope it worked. If not let me know.
