I started Metoprolol Tartrate 25mg being one tab every 12 hours. I was in the hospital with a blood pressure of 200/130, sometimes higher with a high pulse and irregular heartbeat. I experienced tightening in chest, slight difficulity in breathing, and extreme variables in my pressures. Most of the time they are in the normal range, but occasionally my systolic has dropped under 100 and my diastolic was 58. I am monitoring my foods and am also taking Ativan twice daily. I am terrified. Anybody else have these variables in pressures? I have only been on the medicines for four weeks now. I have had diabetes and thyroid neg testing. I was diagnosed with Panic Disorder??? Never heard of it before. All my family including five siblings have high blood pressure as well. ## These types of vari...

I was on amlodipine medicine for at least two and half years and I have gone through a real hell. It all started with dry cough. I thought like any other medicine the side effect will wear off, but it didn't. Then after a year later came back pain and it really got worse. I never thought that it was the side effect from this medicine. It went on for two and half years before I realized. I was running around town to get my back pain solved. I must have had more than 50 sessions of physio and chiro. I saw that I wasn't getting anywhere and I started doing some research on computer. After reading so much on this medicine, I went to my doctor and told her to change my medicine. It has been almost three weeks and I already see that there is a big change in my back. Most of the pain i...

Is it ok to take instaflex if u have heart problems, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and thyriod problems? ## Instaflex is an over the counter product that is claimed to help with joint health, so as nothing more than a dietary supplement, it hasn't actually been tested for possible interactions with medications and health conditions. However, since I am also a hypertension and cardiac patient, I can tell you that one of the ingredients in it is Black Pepper and it can cause blood pressure elevations in some people. It can really depend on the person, so I'd suggest checking with your doctor, or pharmacist, before taking it. From what I've found, any of the various pepper extracts can cause blood pressure elevations in some people, so you have to be careful about taking th...

Just learned that the chronic cough I've had for two years might be caused by this med. What would be the alternative Rx? ## Sorry to hear about your bad experience with Lisinopril. I personally used to have severe hypertension for a number of years, but was able to control it by controlling more of my eating habits and exercising. What works for me may not work for everyone, but my initial advice is to look into natural ways (before prescription alternatives) such as: Low/no sodium foods to help reduce inflammation and water retention, supplementation of garlic, as well as having a diet that is rich in potassium and magnesium. Other dietary and non dietary options for lowering blood pressure can include (but are not limited to): L-Theanine Magnesium Glycinate Coenzyme Q10 Garlic Ha...

I have been taking 10 mg/day of Lisinopril for 3 months and have developed a tightening in the chest and flu like symptoms. Within the past 3 weeks I have felt progressively worse and would like to stop. Is it ok to just quit or must I wean myself off? ## Lisinopril is used to help control high blood pressure. That said, most of these medications can cause dangerous rebound effects if you have been on them for a period of time and abruptly stop taking them, this can include increased blood pressure and heart rate, with the risk of heart attack and stroke. The side effects that you are experiencing are normal for this class of medications, you may also experience headache and dizziness. If it is getting worse, however, and not tapering off, you should speak to your doctor immediately abo...

Amlodipine 10 mg tab ASC. Another bottle says LEG instead. What do the letters stand for? ## It might be the manufacturer - The "ASC" could possibly stand for "Ascend" pharmaceuticals. Can you confirm the NDC number or manufacturer name from your prescription bottle? Also, are you sure the other abbreviation was "LEG", or was it something else? Wondering if your keyboard auto-corrected the typing? ## I was wondering what do leg stand for as well ## Why would they switch from ASC to ZYD when it costs twice as much? $33.45 vs $63.56!!! This is not right. It is making your medication amount to rise with the insurance company.

i've been taking metoprolol for several years as partial treatment for high blood pressure. through diet and exercise, i've lowered my BP to the point my doctor says drop the metoprolol. i did, 3 days ago, and i'm soooo tired, dizzy, irritable, and my vision is blurred. is this withdrawal? how long will it last? i remember starting this medication was terrible to get used to. it appears that stopping it is just as bad. ## I am experiencing the same thing and I am tapering off of the metoprolol. I have only been on for a couple of months and now the withdrawal is just as bad. I am down to 12.5 mg two times a day. It is tough. ## it went away after a week or so. i feel great now, and my BP and heart rate have risen slightly, but thats the reason we stopped it. i've lost en...

I’ve been on Toprol XL for years. I got a blue letter in the mail months ago. Medicare switched me to another part d plan. I didn’t get the letter until two months after they said they sent it to me. I thought I was getting junk mail from WellCare in Florida, so I ignored it. Little did I know that they had enrolled me into that plan without my knowledge. WellCare denied my exception for Toprol XL. I’m appealing the decision. They’ve had me on the phone for hours and lied to me. Silvercript (my former insurance) also lied to me. They told me that I had to pay $50 a month and I receive Extra Help. I looked it up, it was supposed to be $7.20 a month or zero a month. Unless I’m missing something. Anyway the bottom line is that WellCare won’t approve my e...

I get a pounding heartbeat after taking my Candesartan. Lasts for about 6 hours. Has anyone else experienced this type of side effect? ## According to FDA reports, Candesartan has been known to cause Palpitations as a side effect, but it isn't very common, and you should consult your doctor to be sure. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and hypotension. Ref: Candesartan Information Are you on any other medications?

Hi, I've been prescribed Irbesartan 75 mg plus Amlodipine 5 mg. I'm wondering if it is necessary to take both daily since my BP and cholesterol are okay? I'm 70 years old. I've heard some bad reports on Amlodipine. Does anybody have any experience with these medications? I think Amlodipine was making me nauseous. I also feel that my Dr isn't very interested in my side effects, as I have COPD and asthma as well. Thanks. ## What are your usual blood pressure readings? In most cases, if someone is stable, and their blood pressure is being maintained at good numbers, then there is no reason to add more medications, most doctors usually try to lower the number of medications that someone takes. However, if you've been taking them both all along, then it may be the com...

I would like to know if I take Valerian root for sleep support, will my blood pressure go up? I take Losartan 100 mg in the morning. ## It is stated that you should not take it, if you have high blood pressure, unless your doctor says it is safe for you to do so, combining them can increased the dizziness, and drowsiness you might experience, according to NIH reports. However, I did not find any dangerous interactions listed. Are you on any other medications? Generally, according to AMA reports, your getting sleep is very important to help control your blood pressure. ## I take losartan each night. I took valerian root an hour ago, can I take the losartan? ## Just following up - can I take Valerian Root with Losartan? ## Can I take Losartan and valerian root? ## Both Losartan and valeri...

Losartan is one of way too many unsafe drugs my husband has been given. He's a child of the 60s and 70s so he thinks 'goody uppers and downers'. You know the remedy in a bottle. I'm always voicing my opinion to him yet he refuses to self educate and his lingering cough might be a very dreadful side effect of Losartan or any other med. So far this one looks like the culprit. Bad thing is he phoned in a new app and told them. Naturally they have their script pad out waiting to add more meds to his already poorly polluted body. This is disheartening. I've emailed him criteria to read. He loves to read. Books! Nothing meaningful tho. :( One med even said it has an FDA black box warning. *big sigh* No idea. I married him and in sickness and health but others shouldn't...

Prescribed in addition to Aprovel to reduce increased BP. After second tablet, itchy rash over arms, legs and abdomen, throat constriction, nausea, swellings, small ulcers on lips and tongue, agitation. I am not familiar with any of these symptoms and have never suffered from psoriasis in past. Phoned GP who advised to discontinue at once and given appointment next week. Have taken antihistamine as recommended. Three days later, still have rash, ulceration, and throat constriction. ## Rash is slowly fading, and pain on swallowing took 10 days to resolve. Felt unbelievably tired. ## I am so sorry! It definitely sounds like you experienced an allergic reaction and it's good that you called your doctor and stopped the medication immediately, because they tend to worsen with repeated ex...

I started Metoprolol this Monday after the cardiologist prescribed it because of being in the ER with extremely fast heartbeats. After a heart ultrasound, chest xray, blood tests, and wearing a holter moniter, they found there was nothing wrong with my actual heart other than the fact that I have a mild heart arrhythmia which they believe was brought out by a virus I also had. Now that I have started the medicine, I have had dizziness, nausea, sever mood swings, insomnia, and anxiety. The cardiologists' nurse said these were all normal, but it seems a little excessive to me. I am on the lowest possible dose (25MG) minus the possibility of cutting the pill in half and I take it once a day. I do not have high blood pressure and am young and not overweight (5ft and 105lbs). Has anyone ...

I take Abisart 150mg and have noticed that my ankles swell at night and my shins are sore. Can this be a side effect? ## Yes, Abisart is listed as containing the active ingredient Irbesartan, and it has been known to cause peripheral edema as a side effect in some people that take it. In most cases, it doesn't stop, and the person must switch to a different medication. Other side effects of Irbesartan may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and increased urination. telma 20 or telma 40 - which tablet is stronger? ## The higher dosage, the 20 is a 20mg Telma tablet and the 40 is a 40mg Telma tablet. But the operative question is, which one has your doctor told you to take? Telmisartan is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Taking too much can be dangerous, as it could lower your blood pressure and heart rate too much. ## I am 70+ so is telma 20 or telma 40 mg tablet should be used regularly to maintain my blood pressure. ## My BP is 160/110 and pulse rate 110. Dr prescribed Telma H 40 mg but there is no improvement found and my pulse rate remains varying within the previous range. Please suggest what medicine I should take. ## Telma H 40mg BD

SInce being switched from lisinipril 20 mg to Losartan Pot 50 mg about three months ago I have gained 12 pounds and always feel hungry. I also feel jittery. Could this be a side effect of Losartan Pot? ## Yes, these can be side effects of taking Losartan, especially the appetite change and weight gain, that has been reported in up to 4% of the people that take it. Learn more Losartan details here. Have you talked to your doctor about it? It just may not be the right medication for you and you may need to switch to something else. ## This is very interesting to read. I was looking for different side effects because I'm having trouble with serious muscle and joint pains, but have also gained about 12 pounds and eat constantly. I'm in the process of working with my dr to switch med...

Woke two days ago w numb stumps for hands and feet. NOW I realize probably Transient Ischemia. Had to hold on to everything t make it to b room. Lightheadedness came back. All night Thur and all day and night Fri, BP very high for me. Atenolol not working. If I had been thinking straight, would have called 911, but, not. It's fluctuating. Am very thin. In much pain. I think Norco may be culprit. But why did it just start? ## You should report this to your doctor, so they can evaluate you to make sure nothing serious/dangerous is going on. Are you on any other medications, aside from those you mentioned? How much Norco do you take? There is a chance that some of what you experienced were due to side effects from it, Hydrocodone itself is more commonly known to cause low blood pressur...

Is the Aurobindo version of Clonidine HCL (0.2mg) gluten-free? ## Aurobindo lists the inactive ingredients of their Clonidine 0.2 mg (NDC 59651-233) as including: Corn starch, hypromellose, lactose, magnesium stearate, microcystalline cellulose 101, polysorbate 80. D&C Yellow 10, FD&C Blue #1. So, it looks like it is gluten free, but please be aware that inactive ingredients may change in the future. I just went with what the pharmacist found in the paperwork of the product.

I take Amlodipine 5mg - it is sort of oval shaped and I find it difficult to swallow. I take it with nearly half a glass of water. However 2 days ago the pill got stuck at the back of my mouth and actually dissolved. I immediately felt a severe burning pain which was agony (I have a high pain threshold but this was unbearable). After some minutes the burning passed but for a time I couldn't eat or talk. My voice is still affected and at times drops to a whisper. I can't find anything relevant to this and I wonder if anyone else has experienced it. ## Many pills contain harsh ingredients that can cause those types of symptoms if the medication dissolves in your mouth or throat. I've experienced it several times, even just taking OTC Benadryl, it burned my mouth and made my to...
