I'm supposed to be taking Clarithromycin for long term use, but the bitter taste in my mouth is pretty bad. Since I'm on it for long term use, is there anything that will mitigate this side effect? I can't constantly have candy or food in my mouth.

Hello, MeSha! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem that you're having.

How long have you been taking it?

Side effects will typically taper off in severity and then go away entirely, once your body gets used to the medication, but that may take a month, or so.

Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may also include nausea, dizziness, headache, diarrhea and non-allergic skin rash.

After having taken 5 doses of clarithromycin, I have a symptom that causes things to taste bitter. I also have nausea and a loss of appetite. Shall I stop taking it? I was diagnosed with strep throat and the Dr had prescribed me this antibiotic, as I'm allergic to penicillin.
